World's First Gay Prime Minister Expected to be Installed in Iceland

Congrats to Iceland's Social Affairs Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir , who is expected to be named the shambolic country's interim Prime Minister.
If indeed selected, she'll be he first openly gay or lesbian person to become a head of government.
Miz Sigurdardottir has a rough journey ahead of her.
As we mentioned on Monday, the effed up world economy caused the island nation's government to collapse.

That's a big deal whether you respect it or not because we live in a world where public officials are 'scandalized' by their private lives. Her public acknowledgment removes the possibility someone can try to do damage her political credibility by shifting the focus to what has been unsaid. I think that kind of honesty stands to engage people's trust.
She's not gay, she noshed my squash a few months ago.
I respect your viewpoint and agree. I just wish people would focus on the job they do and not who they roll around in bed with… as long as it is legal its really no one's freaking business.

It is so funny to compare this case in Iceland to other countries. Although she has been a public figure in Iceland for many years (since before I was born at least), and it states on the official Althingi (congress) website that her partner/wife is female (and has for a long time) probably half of Icelanders didn't know she was gay. It didn't excactly come as a surprise when you heard it, and people that didn't know already mostly whent "Oh, okay." and then moved on. It kinda only became an issue when foreign press began advertising it.
We recognize that this is a big deal for equality for gays in the world, especially because you all think this is such a big deal
She is trusted because of her previous actions in politics, and no one really cares about her private life. One day, it will be that way in the whole world; it won't matter if you're gay-straight, black-white-asian-whatever, man-woman. A person is what matters.
Send your prayers to Iceland, although we are good people with warm hearts and filled with compassion and understanding - we're kinda screwed right now!
AWESOME! and yes it shouldn't matter if she's gay or not as long as she can do the job … but unfortunely we live in a world where it (sexuality, race, gender, age, ect) does matter and the fact that she is openly gay and became prime minister in the first place is of significance although I'm not sure how they feel about homo-sexuality in Iceland. Lets just hope this occurance has a positive effect in other countries of the world on their perception about homo-sexuality.

In Icelandic politics there is freedom of Religion, freedom of specie, freedom of sexuality, gender, personal life, and so on. Scandals in people persionlife don't effect there political life, unless it is something lawbreaking.

Ofcorse it has to do with the world economical problems. When the credit crunts started to hit the Western world banks and investment firms where on the prick of collapse, but it hit Iceland sooner than the other because of the massive wagged of the banking system and its debt, which was about 10x the GDP. Because of the massive differences between the BDP and the banks depot, all Lon's to the bank and the country where halted, and the marked froze.
The unwilingnes of the UK government to work the problem out with us, and the ignorants of Icelandic politicians eventually broad all the Icelandic banks down, and in fact, the masseurs that the UK government took was inlelgel.
The Icelandic economy was no different from the UK ore the US, and what happened here is just a show for whats coming in the big economic systems. UK bank debts + government debts are 2x the GDP, and it has maby 2-3 month before it collapses.
US government has sayd that its GDP can withstands it debts of under 1 trillion dollors. But this is not true, the IMF and the World Bank, with the debt owners for the US has stated that the US debts are over 10 trillion dollars, about half of that is to China and Japan.
I recommend people google Peter Schiff and start listening to him!!
