Phelps Apologizes For Bong Pic
Michael Phelps issued a carefully worded statement in response to the picture that was published this weekend of the Golden Boy smoking what is alleged to be pot from a bong:
"I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again."
Wonder what the future will hold!
Will he get dropped from his big $$$ endorsement deals?
Will the Olympics people bar him from competing in 2012?

I think Mike should be PROUD he smoked/s pot! If medical marijuana can be allowed in some states it is obvious that sooner or later the whole country will constitutionally have to reciprocate with allowances and laws. Possibly Mike Phelps could be part of the final gasp of the old prohibitive laws and he could stand up for the pot smokers of the world! That would truly be HEROIC.

He's an Olympic athlete, sure everyone says give the kid a break. But he knows the rules, swimming in the Olympics is his JOB. If any one of us did something that would be detrimental to OUR jobs, we would be expected to face the consequences. I like him, but he needs do know he's not above the law. I hope he at least loses some of his endorsement deals, if not to at least be an example to young kids.

Today on Mojo in the Morning radio show in Detroit they had people call up who have either slept with him, drank with him or smoked with him. The phone lines lit up…there was even a guy who called in who allegedly sold pot to his roommate…College makes kids do a lot of crazy stuff…he still won the medals drug free…but the real lesson here is when one reaches the top and there is no where else to climb chances are good one will fall…Britney Spears, Hannah Montana, etc…

He brought home 8 gold medals for the U.S. So- fucking-what if he wants to toke up and have some fun he doesn't go to the olympics until 2012…if he decides to go at all. We should be kissing his ass instead of riding it. Anyone that judges him for smoking a little pot is a big fat asshole everyone does it or knows someone who does. And P.S. it's prolly gonna be legalized within the next 5 years anyway. I understand people are saying it's just weed, no biggie…but he's an 8 time olympic medalist. He's not some average joe like you. Doing any kind of drugs in sports is a no no…..DUH.

I can see by the amount of comments that there are a lot of opinions on this subject. I have two teenagers who looked up to him during the Olympics. To say that I am disappointed in his behavior is an understatement. I will not purchase any products which he endorses. Pot smoking is rampant in the high schools and now all he has done is show the kids "Hey look at me, I can get high and STILL win 8 gold medals!" Sorry Phelps, you're a loser in my book.

Why can't your kids still look up to him for his work ethic? He's always been a partier. Unless your kids are swimmers you won't really have to worry about buying products he endorses, if they are you should really check out who is sponsored by the other suits, there aren't many swimmers that you would want your teenager modeling their life after, I guess they could wear Blue70 suits. Maybe you should have done a better job of raising your children to look up to people for what they do well and not completely model themselves after other people. Phelps still busted his butt for 3 years straight getting ready for this Olympics, and no one has ever accused him of being intelligent (I'm guessing you would like your kids to study hard.) In terms of swimming/athletics he's a great role model still, his method of relaxing is what you seem to take offense to.
Phelps is not that smart, he was stupid for getting caught, but once again it's depressing that people were at all surprised by this. Don't dig too deep in the lives of any other medalists, you'd be in for a heart attack.

I would like to inform EVERYONE to go ahead and look at psychology studies coming out of Harvard and UNI in the next two years… they show pot does INDEEEEDDD mess with your brain and a ood amount. It can have lon term perception problems and makes great differences in long term reaction time- something that was once thought to only be a short term effect..
