"Hidden Springs Horse Rescue is in large part funded by the Higdon Family of Marianna, FL. Roger & Melanie Higdon have made it their mission to make a difference in this world by rescuing abused, abandoned and unwanted horses. They have recently received their 501 (c) 3 non profit status from the IRS, allowing them to provide tax deduction receipts for all donations. They have found that the need for their assistance is greater than initially anticipated, and receiving the status of a non profit organization will allow them to keep up with the ever increasing number of cases of horses in distress.

You can make a difference as well. You can volunteer your time at Hidden Springs Ranch, or provide assistance in the form of supplies, feed, hay or donations that can be used to provide veterinary or farrier care. We currently have several new arrivals in need of equine dentistry care and vaccinations. "

It is sad…but this place really does help horses who have been neglected and rehabilitate them. Horses need second chances too! :)

    5. 5

Holy shit! What is WRONG with people??????

    6. 6

people who abuse animals should be sent to prison for life. life. nothing shorter than that.

    7. 7

Re: baba booey – I agree….sometimes I just dont stand the human race, we will be the destruction of ourselves, people are fucked up, animals deserve much better

    8. 8

I'm surprised that poor animal is still alive. It will take lots of time and FOOD for him to bounce back. How can people enjoy a good meal when they are starving an animal in their backyard??? Hay, water, grain….it's not difficult to feed a horse. People SUCK!

    9. 9

      WHAT a WONDERFUL cause!!! :)

Perez…WTF…this is so sad and shocking. But I guess that is what you are going for!

    12. 12

that so disgustingly sad! I hate people that abuse animals! there fucking cowards that get off on abusing defenseless animals. I can't stand it in summer, with over 100 degree heat and these dumb ass fucking ppl lock their "beloved" dogs in a car with with the window only cracked! I would love to lock them in a car directly over the sun and leave them in there for an hour and see how they like it. STUPID FUCKS!

    13. 13

Thanks Perez! Horses fair worse than dogs and cats for the most part for the lack of resources and space to protect them.

      I WANT A RANCH!

      this picture SCARES!

    15. 15

      That's a revolting photograph :-(

    16. 16

omg this just made my eyes watery :(

    17. 17

The real reason there are so many abandoned horses is the dumbass federal politicians who banned horse slaughter for meat. Eating horsemeat may not be palatable for America but it is for many cultures in Europe and Asia. So horse slaughter plants who made a use out of old and unwanted horses, were shut down and many people are out of work. So if you want to avoid the legitimacy of meat processing involving horses (the meat was all exported), then you cough up the bucks to take care of them and stop the crocodile tears and phony piety.

    18. 18

wow…I am SHOCKED. I have never seen a horse look like that…

    19. 19

Do you have to show pics like this?

I own race horses and I find this very disturbing. I have donated all of my horses that no longer can run to a child cancer ranch. I try to get other owners to do the same. This is a great charity.

    21. 21

      Thanks for posting this!

    22. 22

as I scrolled down and saw this HORRIBLE picture my eyes teared up! OMG who in the HELL treated that poor animal so cruely? I live in KENTUCKY and we take horses really seriously here..but really ANY type of animal cruelty boils me over in anger! Great cause..if I werent' poor I would definitely donate!! XOXO God bless the people who do help…

    23. 23

ANIMALS deserve to be treated in a humane manner, this is so sad. but at least it is for something worthwhile not like dumping Good Money to feed Affykans?

    24. 24

I am sorry I made that comment about Affykans. I wasn't thinking, heck without so many of them here in the USA there would be a lot of Prison Guards without jobs.

    25. 25

      Just made my donation!

    26. 26

I love donating to all charities, this is super! I will spread the word to my friends in south beach..they will totally donate!.. the sorvinos do something similar to this in nj as well, I have donated to their cause as well!!thank you mr. hilton!

    27. 27

oh my god! that is gruesome. how can people be so cruel?

    28. 28

      Good God, people suck.

    29. 29

    30. 30

i hate the human race…. animals are so loving and caring how could anyone harm them …. good cause~!!!!!

      Albertosands -

It is all too often that people look at the symptom and not at the problem. The banning on horse slaughter is only a symptom of an easily manageable problem: overbreeding of horses. We would not "need" horse slaughter to dispose of the unwanted horses if people bred responsibly. This includes everyone from big-time names, to the racehorse industry, to "back yard breeders." If you can't sell a foal for upwards of $2000, you should not be breeding at all in this economy.

    32. 32

      Albertosands -

Yes, it may be acceptable in other cultures to eat horse meat, and there's nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is the slaughter process. It is ill-regulated in the US and even less regulated in Canada and Mexico and obviously, is extremely traumatizing to the animals. If owners can no longer take care of their horses, they should either give them up to a reputable, no-kill rescue or suck it up and pay the couple hundred dollars to euthanize them instead of reaping $50-$300 to sell to a kill-buyer. A dignified death in a loving home is a much better alternative to being trampled on a double-decker or slaughtered via nail gun… or worse.

      Re: Albertosands

See comments 31 and on for real story of horse slaughter…

    34. 34

WHEN I SEE THINGS LIKE THIS I CAN'T HELP BUT FEEL THAT…
      .
      HUMAN BEING SUCK!

    35. 35

That photo is heart breaking :(

    36. 36

      OMIGOD THIS IS SO SAD

    37. 37

People who abuse animals, should be abused in the same. People who do this disgust me.

    38. 38

Perez, it wasn't necessary to include the photo… it is so heart-breaking.
Fuck people who abuse animals btw!!!!!! Bastards should die a horrible death in the same manner.
Makes me so ashamed to be a part of the human race.. people are so disgusting.
