Super Bowl Ratings Down
Despite the hype surrounding the Super Bowl this year, viewers just didn't tune in for the big game on Sunday night.
According to the preliminary Nielsen Media Research, ratings show that the Super Bowl's audience was down from last year's high. Though the ratings this year were about even with the 2006 and 2007 games.
This year's game received a 42.1 rating and 65 share in the measurement of the nation's top cities according to Nielsen. Last year's rating was at 44.7. Basically, each rating point is said to represent 1,145,000 households.
Somehow, we doubt the current system is very accurate as to how many people are watching the game.
How can they accurately measure how many people are watching the game when lots of folks gather together to watch it in groups????
The total viewership estimate is said to be estimated at around 90 million.

Perez, how can you write Ratings Sucked across the picture? They far from sucked. Last year had a team going for the best record in the history of the sport. That's why the ratings were so high. But compared to most years, this game was right on track. The network and the advertisers have to be happy that the quality of the game was so good and not decided until the last seconds.

Actually they didnt hype this superbowl as much as they did last year Perez. You know damn well you dont know a thing about football. Last year it was alllll about Tom Brady and Eli Manning in the superbowl. I'm surprised the ratings were in the 40 millions this year. So that's a plus!
No one watches Superbowl alone. Usually people have many friends over and use the game for socializing, and some have a full-blown Superbowl party. So a "household" can actually have 10-15-20 people instead of just Mom, Dad and 2 kids.

i think the commercials stunk and that may be a problem. I live in Buffalo and we had the 4th highest rating and arizona was #9! Yea the bills suck that is why i am a sabres fan..anyways…i thought with the whole 3-D "excitement" that ratings would go up but i guess it didnt matter!!! and the preview show and everything that was 3-D stunk…so i am not really surprised…..there is always next year!

They are collected from 5000 tvs… Because that sure represents North America..
Yea, the rating system may not be accurate but the point is that they compare this year to last year and use the same rating system.
They also need to realize that almost 3 or 4 states, maybe even more have no power since the power outages because of the recent ice storms.
The only people watching the 'Super' Bowl anymore are low class whites and ghetto trash. Classy people are getting tired of being around drunken morons at these games. Just look at the freaks they always aim the camera in on! TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eh…I flipped on it occasionally. It just wasn't that great. The commercials weren't that great. The Boss was the best thing and, sad to say, he didn't blow me away. I was more interested in the Cheaters marathon on G4.
Sucks for all u that missed the best Super Bowl game of all time. Never seen a better game than last nights game and the only reason last years made more hype than this years is because the Patriots were trying to become the second undefeated team in history and beat the Miami Dolphins record and thats why people tuned in. But for all my sports freaks out there if you watched it you all know how amazing that game was. And to all u non sports people that like to criticize saying football sucks all i got to say is FUCK OFF!!!!

Um you do realize this past superbowl had the 2nd highest viewing of any superbowl ever right? The only game with more viewers was the Giants win last year.
