Listen To This: It Will Give You Chills!!!!

Filed under: Broadway Babies > Listen To This

You must must MUST listen to this, bbs!!!!!!

In our review of the Broadway-bound 9 to 5 musical, we could not stop raving about the ferociously talented Stephanie J. Block.

Well, we've finally gotten our hands on her show-stopping number, Get Out And Stay Out.

The song was written - both lyrics and music - by Dolly, and it is amazing.

Who can't relate to what Stephanie is singing????

She kills it! Devours it! Destroys it! And serves it to the audience on a silver platter!

Oh, and this recording doesn't even capture how well she does it live - but it comes close.

Check it out below!

  17. 17

she's okay - i saw her on broadway in wicked a few years back. she didn't kill it though…obviously you haven't seen a lot of broadway, perez. this is no "show-stopper".

  22. 22

    sorry but ewwww

  23. 23

Actually this is TAME compared to the live version I heard. She STEALS the show, and if they can fix the rest of it, she'll have a HIT on her hands..and a Tony in it come Tony Awards NEXT year.
    She is AWESOME!!!
    Go Stephanie!!!

  24. 24

    Dolly fucking rules.

  25. 25

  30. 30

    This is terribly boring.

  34. 34

Stephanie J. Block is a VERY talented lady. I had the privilege of seeing her in "The Pirate Queen" and while the show flopped she was amazing!!! I liked the number a whole lot. I'll need to see it to determine if it's a 'show stopper' or not, but so far I like it. Megan Hilty is very talented as well!!! Looking FF to seeing this show!

    35

    seriously? what heck is that

  36. 36

The song Dolly wrote for the movie was wonderful. This? Just generic, fungible Broadway filler. Bland and boring.

  37. 37

God Dolly Parton is looking bADDDDD!! Give up that red lipstick honey , HOly crap!!

  38. JCPR says – reply to this

    38

omg what chills? it gave me diarrhea! lol

  39. 39

    you are the gayest!

  40. 40

the begining was a little boring, but the ending is AMAZING!

  41. 41

I hate the way she over enunciates ever syllable. It ruins a song because she sounds too technical and robotic instead of like a woman in pain.

  42. 42

Steph is one of the most talented singers I have heard in a long time. She actually was in a regional performance of Oliver in Austin and I was in the show just as a chorus member. She is not only a fantastic actress who made us all cry and a great singer who gives you chills but she is a great, down to earth woman who could relate to everyone. She actually has the hobby of making her own belt buckles. lol. they are bejeweled and really cute. Im sure Dolly loved them lol Thanks Perez for this, I know a lot of people read your blog and getting people like Steph more out there is such a good thing. (and if you don't think she sings good, you obviously aren't trained right.)

  43. 43

There is nothing great about this. It's typical broadway shit. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying it's not this amazing piece you claim it to be.

  44. 44

Love it! It's nice to here someone with that kind of talent in a musical. So many Broadway actresses have annoying sing-song voices but this girl has true talent.

  45. 45

Chills? Maybe if Celine Dion sang it.

  46. 46

wow ,,, Dolly needs to stop with the plastic surgery on her face,my god she used to be a sexy woman, now she's turning into just another botoxed&plastic surgery monster.

  47. 47

I'll take Dolly singing it any day; also it's not that I don't appreciate that this lady has a good voice…she does, but it's just not as good as you hyped it up to be.

  48. 48

I smell a Tony. Dolly looks like she bought her face from the same doctor as Mary Tyler Moore. Very scary.

  49. 49

    i saw this live. FABULOUS!!!

  50. 50

lol the only reason YOU can relate to this perez is because you're a dateless wonder. We can all tell your so fucking desperate for affection i wouldn't be suprised if you went to a male prostitute!

  51. Deeds says – reply to this

    51

These peeps have no idea how amazing she is! You don't have to be a broadway regular to know when someone is singing amazing. I LOVE this song! Freakin' awesome!!!!

  52. 52

It's so sad. The majority of the people who commented on this OBVIOUSLY don't understand ANYTHING about musical theater. I can't believe you're JUST discovering Stephanie! She's been around for awhile and yea, she's amazing.

  53. 53

I think I'd like it better if Dolly sang a country-fied version of it.

  54. Low says – reply to this

    54

No chills here dude….. It's a fine song if I was watching the play perhaps.. but not my style.

  55. 55

THIS SONG IS SOOO TRUE! FUCK MEN! NO WAIT. THAT CAME OUT WRONG!

  56. 56

This was a very typical middle-aged lady-done-wrong "ballad" and was terrible. There was no emotion in it and CERTAINLY no originality in the vocals. Dolly Parton could have done it very well, I'm sure.

  57. 57

I never listen to ANY music Perez promotes as his taste is so commercial and utterly shite and predictable.

  58. 58

    I loved it! Fantastic voice.

  59. 59

    Ick.

  60. AMO says – reply to this

    60

I don't like the sound of her voice at all. It's all waaaaaaaaaaah.

  61. 61

I was prepared for "chills"…all I got was gas. Normally, I love Miss Parton, but this song just kinda lingers the quickly disappears….kinda like the fart I just launched due to the gas the song gave me.

  62. 62

That was awesome. I seen Stephanie J. Block as Elphba in the traveling Wicked tour. She blew me away then and does now.

  63. 63

    Meh…

  64. 64

    Weak verse, melody and rhymes.
Love Dolly — perhaps I'd like it better is she sang it in her own inimitable style.

  65. 65

That was pretty fucking amazing. God bless SJB!

    Re: BabyPink_FL

Have you ever listened to a broadway song before??
They HAVE to enunciate. Or every single thing is lost on the stage. The whole point is that they're speaking through song. From being in production on 3 musicals I can tell you that enunciation is one of the most important things that they look for in actors.

  67. 67

I loooooove musicals, I love 9 to 5 the movie and I love Dolly. BUT THAT WAS NO SHOW STOPPER! What a big fucking snoooooooooozefest compared to other musical Show Stopping Numbers about the same subject. And yes, it sounded Wicked(ish).

  68. Bevi says – reply to this

    68

I guess we had to be there…. but no, actually, I can't imagine that helping.

  69. 69

    love dolly!

  70. 70

    no thx.

Stephanie was the only singer to belt out "Don't Rain on My Parade" at the Kennedy Center Honors in front of Barbra Streisand. She was a real dynamic pro and even Babs seemed impressed.

  72. 72

    next

  73. 73

    really good :D

  74. 74

I saw her as Elphaba in Wicked as well and i thought she did a better job than Edina Menzel. She was amazing.
