      Business execs have arraged it so that now, their compensation has nothing to do with the companies performance. If the company performs well they say "It's because of me, I deserve this" if the company performs badly they say "If you don't give bonuses we'll leave, so you have to pay the people that caused the company to perform badly huge bonuses". It's a crock of B.S. nobody is hiring right now, so if theose people didn't get their bonuses they STILL wouldn't leave.

      My husband is a STORE manager for them and doesn't benefit from the bonuses so I'm not speaking as someone on the side that benefits from this. These people busted their asses, met their goals and received their bonuses as they should have.

      Get all the facts before you start bashing on companies.

      They could have used that 1.5 million to keep those people employed and it would have helped our economic recovery. I'm going old school here to shit-talk large retailers like Macy's, Walmart and Home Depot. The problem with these companies is that they don't really have any concern for their workers. Example: I work for a small family business. They are not going to go under to keep me on, but they are going to go a heck of a lot further than any corporate company. Corporations thing only in dollars. They see hard times coming and just let 1,000 people go without a second thought. They are hurting us though because that's thousands and thousands of people out of working, drawing unemployment and creating a larger and larger body of people who can't afford to purchase consumer goods. That, of course, lead to more job loss and more of the same. If they would try a little harder, take one for the team so to speak, the long-term benefits would be so much grander. But the coporate entity is the embodiment of "me, me, me."

Like Citigroup spending $400m for naming rights for the new shea stadium.       1.4 million is not a lot when you think of how many people the bonus has been divided up against. what most of you don't realize is that when people are in positions, such as "higher up executive positions", their salaries are built around having that bonus each year. they count on having those bonuses. don't knock them for being well educated and having a career rather than scanning the price tags behind the registers.

      $200,000 compared to $40 million walk away pay? Seems a bit more reasonable. Those bonuses seem rather paltry compared to the bonuses received by execs at Merrill Lynch and other places right before they went belly up. Maybe they cut the 7000 jobs because they were redundant and shouldn't have been given in the first place. I'm not saying that it was right for the execs to take a bonus but they probably have been devoting every waking minute to making the company work so maybe they deserve some compensation. If we're going to start looking at compensation packages for one business then you may as well look at it for all businesses, i.e., chancellors, deans of med schools, heads of non-profits.

So to make a statement that I have no idea what position the sales associates are in could not be farther from the truth 2). A college degree is not something you "wipe your ass with". I use toilet paper to wipe my ass, not my BS or my MBA. To make a statement like that only leads me to believe that you DON'T have your degree.       MOST of them work hard, just like MOST sales associates work hard. But what you clearly don't understand is that anyone who works in an executive position is hired with a salary that isn't as high as you'd imagine. That's why companies have developed the bonus. It's something they all depend on and count on every year. Just because they live in a more expensive house doesn't mean they have money growing off the trees in their backyard. They factor the bonus into their salary as money they need to pay for their bills, taxes, etc.

      Stop being bitter, and really get yourself a degree.

Many have spent thier entire careers with Macy's. The Macy's offices in downtown San Francisco will be completely empty when all is said and done. Your store manager husband may think he knows the score, but obviously, he is out of the loop!
