Just one day after Macy's announced it's laying off 7,000 workers…..

Higher-up executives at the company have just gotten bonuses worth $1.4 million.

Does that make any sense?????????

Re: StarKitten – StarKitten and all of the rest of you who are outraged & will never shop at Macy's again - reconsider. Macy's may not be the most ethical business, but there are thousands of families who depend upon the place staying in business. Like me. Not only would we not be able to pay the rent if we lost that Macy's job, my children would lose thier health care. It's important to stand up for something, and I agree that this kind of corporate decision sucks. But remember, we are all in this economy together. As much as I might not like it, I am depending on Macy's, as are a lot of people in this country.

Re: frambosia – 1400 are buyers etc. Wow, that leaves another 5600 unaccounted for. Hm, is it possible that YOU don't have a clue what I'm talking about?

Re: frambosia – I hear ya, Frambosia. Great point. I truly do feel for you.
I guess my question to you is, why would you continue to work for a company like that, that exercises corporate greed, that will slice you down before they touch their bonuses? Aren't you afraid of that? I'd start job hunting, and not let them punk you in a corner. They are not ethical. Best of luck. Truly!

It's the American way - pay the uppers who screw around and screw up millions, while dumping the hardworking middle class. The George W. Bush management style.

    5. 105

I know WTF!!! I'm totally appa…….wait is that a sale on JEANS!??

    6. 106

do you people realize that 1.4 million dollars will only pay those 7000 people at 8 dollars an hour for like 3 days…… 1.4 million dollars isn't very much in the corporate world.
look at it this way… if they split that 1.4 million up between the 7000 people… they would only get 200 dollars per person….. before taxes… hahahaha… come on people.. !!!

    7. 107

Of course it makes sense, if you're a money hungry corporate whores with no conscience. Corporate executives, bankers and wall street brokers are pillaging the country. They knew Obama was going to be elected and was going to raise their taxes and they are hoarding all the money they can before the tax codes are changed. Who cares if people lose their jobs and our economy gets screwed up for the rest of us in the interim?

    8. 108

That's completely fucked up! I am so sick of hearing about these people getting millions of dollars for doing jack shit! Us normal people work harder than these snobs can imagine and won't see that kind of money in a lifetime.

      Disgusting

Boycott! Boycott! Boycott! That's it - I'm not shopping there until this is corrected - Neiman Marcus it is!

    12. 112

lol AMO… that comment actually made me laugh out loud, I agree with you! Anyway, something shady is going on with Macy's, are they TRYING to make things worse???

    13. 113

I am another Macy's employer commenting on this. At my store, everyone who was laid off was at risk for it even if the economy was booming. Two department managers were laid off, but they didnt do shit and had many complaints against them. Other layoffs were holiday employees who were only temporary in the first place, and knew they were temporary. And yes, we get spoken to if we dont get enough people to open a charge, but that alone is not why someone gets fired.

    14. 114

At 12 dollars an hour that could have paid for at least 60 people to keep their jobs. If they had taken pay cuts they could have paid for more. Intolerable greed and corruption.

    15. 115

It's their freaking money, they can do whatever they want with it!!! Get over it and NEXT!!!

    16. 116

Re: frambosia – You mean Chinese or Cambodian families right??? The clothes are all made in those countries and we all know how they are made… I'm not a frequent Macy's shopper, I just buy specific things… I hate this corporations with that big system behind!!! True they also have our people working but are they happy people??? I think they all can do better!

    17. 117

That is *SO* offensive!!!!!!!!! I can't believe people can have so little conscience to take job and desperately needed income from working families just so they can hoard more excess for themselves! I'm so glad Obama is at least putting a limit on CEO salaries. If people won't do the right thing on their own then it's a necessity to make it law.

    18. 118

but does anything anyone ever do at a coperation ever make sense?

    19. 119

This is ridiculous. Not only are most of the above posts embarrassingly devoid of logic, many are simply the posters' shallow attempts to foster self-importance through declaration of their own moral superiority. In an online celebrity gossip forum. Give me a freaking break.
Macy's has a business to run. Businesses need to make profits to survive. Believe it or not, but businesses don't exist for the sole purpose of providing jobs to those who "need" them. Contrary to popular opinion, a person's alleged "need" doesn't entitle him or her to guaranteed lifelong employment. In the current economic climate, Macy's was forced to make a decision that I'm sure was tough, but was also necessary. Hate to break it to you people but businesses don't, and indeed should not, base these types of strategic decisions on who they figure "needs" the jobs the most. Not that this even matters, but $1.4 million divided up between these so-called "executives" amounts to a very small bonus for each individual. Every single one of you idiots desperately needs to read some Ayn Rand.
      .

And, on a side note, let's be honest here - I love Perez, but anyone who regularly visits this website to see which couples broke up, to decide whose evening gown was nicer, to see who cheated on his girlfriend this weekend, or who gained so much weight in the past few months that nobody's sure if she's pregnant or just fat, etc., is in absolutely no position to present themselves as some kind of moral authority. Seriously, how GREEDY of you all to waste time reading celebrity gossip when you could be volunteering at a homeless shelter.

You are so right. Anyone with a conscience can see that instead of laying off any minimum wage employees, the executives should have done the right thing by resigning from their own jobs and letting their own families starve. It is obviously the less "offensive" thing to do. I mean, it is SO "offensive" that a person who worked hard for a college degree would take a "job and desperately needed income from working families." We all know that "executives" and any people making more than minimum wage never actually do any work, nor do they ever have their own families to support. Good thing Obama's going to make it illegal for anyone to earn a good salary while even a single American "desperately" needs a job.

Macy's is all kinds of fucked up! I worked for that company for almost 2 years in cosmetics and you really understand corporate greed after! This isnt even the least of Macy's ugliness!!
The thing I hated MOST, that made my blook boil, was when they'd have us target minorities and young kids or encourage us to flirt with guys walking though for their 'loyalty' program (credit card).
Dont even get me started, Macy's is All Kinds Of Fucked Up

Perez…congrats..I am sure "fuckery" will be added to our lexicon! I've already used it today!

    24. 124

perez honey, that's just the Macy's way doncha know. total fuckery.

    25. 125

Of COURSE it makes sense - how can you pay the execs their bonuses unless you fire 7,000 people and avoid paying their salaries?
