Mormon Church's Contribution To Passage Of Prop H8 Greater Than They First Admitted

The Mormon church tried to pull a fast one with their support of the Yes On 8 campaign, which successfully outlawed gay marriage in California, but a recent investigation has exposed their shady ways, revealing $190,000 that the church spent assisting the passage of Prop 8.
While members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints donated directly to the campaign, the church initially reported almost no campaign activity.
At the prodding of a campaign watchdog agency, however, the church's involvement was revealed to include airline tickets, hotel rooms, and car rentals for the campaign, as well as $96,849.31 worth of "compensated staff time."
Californians Against Hate's Fred Karger, who filed the initial complaint against the church with the Fair Political Practices Commission, said that the findings raise more questions than answers, and believes there is even more activity since the first item listed in September.
He said, "I think there is still a lot of missing parts of the report because we know they've been active since June."
The church could not be reached for comment.

Re: DrinkYourKoolaid – quit draggin' your butt on the rug.
my Mormon friends aren't haters… we need to get these jokers for their discrimination! ….everyone should get a planet when they die, no matter who they screw! haaaaaaaa
$190,000 would have paid for a lot of vaccines for innocent children in third world countries who will DIE without help. H8 is H8, and God is Love, so perhaps the LDS should do some soul searching.
Uhhhh ok
Re: DrinkYourKoolaid – Stick around. I'm sure your stink is better than the posts Perez's mom is giving us today via her shit cannon.

NO ON 8!
Why is it okay for gays to attack religion and the way religious people choose to live their lives, but it is not okay for religious people to attack gay people for the way they live their lives. Very hypocritical! Gay people do not want equality, because if they did, they would focus on rights and not the destruction of the "church".
PEREZ ….This is not celebrity news you asshole. We know that you are a butt pirate but get over it you guys lost.
Re: DrinkYourKoolaid – Since you're the expert here on fecal matters answer me this; will posts get better or remain shitty today?
Give it up you island-hopping/pillow-biter…
You lads lost a fair vote - it is called 'democracy' like it or not.
You are such a bitter man. Maybe you should overcome your mental ailment of loving men instead of pushing for it to being an acceptable form of practice. If not, keep spreading the hate…

Re: DrinkYourKoolaid – How long does it take from the time one eats food to when it is expelled from the body? What factors can influence this lenght of time?
Stephenie Meyer is a Mormon
Come on, enough.
Yes, the Mormons were involved. But so were other churches involved, other organizations. 75% of African Americans didn't vote for Prop 8. I know the gay community is being really aggressive, but it's only causing a backlash.
Mormon trashing is easy. Looking at the honest feelings about Americans and gay marriage and the idea of immorality is not easy to look at.
I fucking HATE the Mormons. Exile them - along with the scientologists - to a deserted island somewhere far, far away.
Re: harrybalsac –
bring your special meatballsax.lol
i think i'll convert to the Morman church
Mormons people always think that they are better than anyone else. So, Why that money didn't go to orphans, homeless or people that they really need the help ?
To answer Mr. Harry, the posts will most likely go down the shitter today, much like Mario's jizz.
Re: Shastamagic – This was actually a good point.
Obama told me to vote against gay marraige and now all the gay people hate me. i think i'll stop paying my taxes now.
Re: DSummerfan – agreed. think of how much GOOD PR they could have gotten themselves with all that money. instead they made people that didn't even notice them before hate them and they'll probably lose their tax exempt status over something the courts are probably going to overturn.
Genghis Khan, the time in which it takes the turd to splash down into its watery grave depends on many factors. Some of those factors include: how much poop is already lodged in you just waiting to make its escape, what type of food you're eating and how much of it, whether you suffer from any pooping-related diseases … whew … just thinking of this makes me want to lay a big log.
Good!!! Who gives a f***ing rats ass anyway?????????
Jesus, protect me from your followers……
I AM MORMON AND YOU KNOW WHAT??? I HAVE MANY GAY FRIENDS…SO DONT CLASSIFY ALL MORMONS AS HATERS! GRACIAS!
Oh, I thought you were blaming President Obama for this.
Who gives a shit?! This was VOTED on 3 months ago and the MAJORITY voted FOR prop 8. Get over it? Do you think if Prop 8 was shot down that people would be bitching then? I doubt it. Regroup yourselves, get a better campaign and try again in 4 years! Not like there is anyone out there that wants to marry you anyway, Perez. You're lucky if you can even get laid!
I seriously doubt you try to reach anyone for comment.
I hate all the Bible thumping brain washed holier than thou's.
Re: TORTEZ – What is so brain washed about believing in God. Just like it's your choice to believe in Him, it is also your choice in not believing in Him. Either way you are persecuting them for the very thing you are accusing them of doing….
Re: GWB5 – yes, a totally fair vote, where the Mormons bought a ton of TV time to say that preachers were gonna get sued, and parents would have no control over their children's sex ed, which was all a bunch of lies and had nothing to do with what the proposition actually stated. That's not democracy dude, that's (alot of out of state) religious agenda special interest dollars poisoning our state politics and manipulating our citizens as to what they were voting on.
Re: zurfergrlz – CUMMING!

The RealOrchidGirl & Mistress*****I can only speak for myself but I think other posters will feel me on this….you two are on EVERY post fighting back & forth like children…can't you exchange e-mails and do it amongst yourselves??? People come on here to blog about the issue posted about and your immature, stupid arguements are distracting and un nesessary…please grow up & STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone can have their opinion but you can't force your beliefs and views upon others. And Mormon's are going to have to learn to accept Gay Marriage in the same way society tries to accept their messed up church! We don't try to ban their church they should not try to ban gay marriage!
Those fuckin MORMANS…….
Re: Shastamagic – What Perez is detailing is not an attack on a church. This item alleges that the church misrepresented their participation in the election process. There are two causes for concern here, 1) it may be proven the church LIED (how honorable of them?), 2) there may have been election laws broken in order to achieve the election's result.
+
There is a huge difference in retracting rights of citizens, which is what the election did and is the cause for the LGBT backlash response, and trying to 'destroy' a church, which they seem to doing a fine job themselves.
+
What will the LDS church have gained after the election results are overturned in March AND their business' tax-exempt status is revoked for not following the campaigning rules? Where are people getting the idea that that gay community is trying to tell a church how to run its theology business?
+
Rank and file gays and lesbians simply want the 1000+ federal, non-religious rights that are available to heterosexual couples.
I wonder if the Mormons realize that their name will forever be linked with Gay. Good !
-
Its so, so insecure for any person, group, political party to demand everyone else be just like them - THE BASIS OF INSECURITY. Sicko's every one of them.
How odd that a church founded by a pedophile con man with a harem of wives would presume to tell anyone what constitutes "marriage."
Most of all, the Mormon Church needs to lose its tax-free status immediately - we should be lobbying for that.
Re: JuneGordon – Well said, June !
I personally Do Not think homosexuals are made? I believe they are born with those interests and tendencies. It Is Not something they choose, it is something they live with. That said If Mormons find the (acts) of homosexuality DISGUSTING that is their right, many other people might agree? Many don't? Smokin a Willie don't appeal to me BUT I know many gay people who are pretty da*n decent people…
Get Off The Mormons Backs…. haven't they had to endure enough already with the OSMONDS being Mormons and all?
Churches in general seem to be corrupt and sick? What do you call 12 naked Altar Boys? The Bishops Buffet??
It wasn't just Mormons that voted down prop 8 so why don't the protesters head to Compton, Oakland, or the local mosques to protest those who were largely responsible?

Re: MIMI223 – Did you openly voice opposition to your church's participation in the Prop 8 vote? If you did, we thank you sincerely. If you did not, you are a partner to what has been alleged. Not all Mormons are 'haters' but the ones who did not speak against the church's tactics are not 'lovers.'

The Mormon church should lose its tax exempt status. period. As should any of those churches where the preachers/ministers were stumping for McCain. Shameful to do in the pulpit! Separation of church and state… or is that yet another American principal / law that has gone the way of the polar bear in an attempt to preserve the status quo and appeal the lowest common denominator? The LGBT community will prevail with this as past inequities continue to be staved off by progression. We will all look back on this day with embarrassment that people in this country are still not treated equally… and, all this in the name of religion.

ok here we go again.
first perez post all the info from the article.
the mormon church donated $190,000 which was far les then the focus on family or american family organization. what about the Catholic Church….no mention that they donated a huge portion of money.????? but wait if the churchs contributions are so signifigant in getting the measure passed, then why didnt money work for the no on 8….those contributions were far greater then the yes on 8?????? its just strait forward the people spoke when they voted, again and again. present you case again…..maybe with more love and less force and people would be more willing to listen and try to understand.
It appears that few, if any of you, have been involved in the behind-the-scenes working of a campaign, specifically in the area of campaign finance reporting. All through a campaign, candidates and significant donors are required to file progress reports on the money they've received or donated. All the Mormon Church has done is to report its donations according to the time periods required by them to report. Obviously, early reports are not going to contain donations that were made after the report date. Likewise, the last report is going to contain the total donations made. At the beginning of the campaign, the Mormon Church obviously didn't spend as much as they did toward the end of the campaign. To say that the Mormon Church has been dishonest in their reporting is naive and unsupportable. One more thing, the vast majority of what the Mormon Church donated to the Prop 8 campaign was NOT cash, but "in-kind" donations such as supplies, etc. All in all, what's done is done and if the Prop 8 opponents want to continue the fight, no problem. But, let's get on with things and end the senseless debate about what happened in the past.
I used to be related to the leader of the mormon church, Thomas Monson. If I was in Cali, I would have voted against it just to piss off the family:D lol
Good for them! Way to go mormons! I support you and yes on 8 100%. No gay marriage. Gays are H8ters!

Re: Sgirl – I would love to shove dog shit down your throat.
And how much money was created for the other side? It still boiled down to a vote of the populous. The whole thing if it was pro or not doesn't seem legally constitutional either way, however of all states if it didn't pass in California you can count on it not passing in any other state. They should have called it a civil union instead of marriage.

WOOT!

Hmmm, Buying an election is cool but buying a law isnt?
I think if you were more aware you would be surprised how much money is spent yearly on "liberal" special interests. the church may be responsible for all that is wrong with this world but they still have the right to spend money how they see fit, they are a private organization.
Regardless of the amount of $$ spent by the Mormon Church, Or any other church for that matter……
THE PUBLIC VOTED.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
Until anyone can prove that the Mormon Church PAID voters directly to vote YES, or committed any kind of voter fraud then they should be left alone. It's easy to single out a specific group and blame them.
There have been many times when an issues was voted on that I did not agree with but I didn't blame the financial backers. I understood that it was the will of the people. For people who do not see it this way I think they lack emotional maturity.
Fucking Mormons are worse than Scientologists.
and this surprises you? seriously why cant we just come to an understanding. there are to many rights and privs ties to being 'married'. by denying a group of people access to those things because they cant be married is discrimination. the churche will never accept the unions of gay men and women. pressure needs to be put to get the government however to recognize that peoples are being discriminated against based on sexual orientation alone.
Oh Bah Perez, Mormons can do what they like to support what they like. If they felt the need to support financially their honest to goodness belief in ensuring prop 8s passage to free up members to support the prop then so be it. It's called a free country just like your continued annoyance with them and all your posts; LGBT's rights to march on church steps and temples. C'mon now, get over it. They haven't done anything wrong and there are several other churches, like the Catholic church, who supported and felt the same way. You are so acting like a child about this. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Don't disguise their support as hate when the Mormons I know aren't backwoods, redneck, gay haters who would yell it from the top of the closest mountain. They have the best work ethic, decency, and devotion as I have ever seen from a group of people. D-D-DANG.
Re: Waldobrk – How do you figure '$96,849.31 worth of "compensated staff time." ' to be an in kind donation? Sounds like they paid staff for time worked on the campaign.
Look I'm Mormon and this is ridiculous. We didn't do this! I have gay relatives and friends that I love and I could give a crap less if they get married or not. I wish they could! So get your facts straight and quit blaming us!
Mormons are the most hypocritical people ever.
And the support the stupidest causes.
Instead of spending that much money on gays.
They should have gave it to a shelter.
Or a worth while cause.
Everyone should have the choice to get married.
Including gays.

Doing NOTHING is the same as boycotting the movement… you as the Queer of all Media had the responsability of going out and get involve in that cause but i think is more comfortable to just sit in your dirty old couch and talk bs about others…

Re: sticktocelebritynewsidiot –
Because they are chicken shit. You know the catholics were opposed to this so why aren't they harrassing them? Why are they specifically targeting mormons? Because they know the Mormonism doesn't have as lofty a following and they know Mormons are more likely to be white.

Re: Kate27 –
How can you say Perez didn't do anything? He was cramming this shit down our throat for weeks, along with his insistence that we vote for that pinko tool Obama.
That $190K is something for the FPPC and the Mormon leadership in Salt Lake City to worry about.
For the rest of us who are Mormon, we really should lay off badgering Perez and ask ourselves why it is that we came up with $20 million to eliminate marriage equality in California. C'mon, that was kind of a shitty thing to do, wasn't it? I mean, if we're gonna spend that kind of money, can't we find something better to spend it on? And if not, let's at least not blame others when they finally notice how messed up our spending priorities happen to be.
A Colorado Springs-based evangelical group spent more than three times the amount spent by the Mormon church to support a California ballot initiative that outlawed gay marriage.
Data released this week by the California secretary of state's office show Focus on the Family donated $657,000 in money and services to ProtectMarriage.com, a California coalition that supported Proposition 8.
A September report indicated Focus on the Family had contributed $448,406. Focus vice president of media relations Gary Schneeberger says the most recent figure includes the value of non-cash contributions such as mailing costs and time on radio programs.
The data also indicate Salt Lake City-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated $189,000 to support Proposition 8.

FIRST of all we're not "The Mormon Church" its "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" moron! Secondly, I know my church, i know it's true, and i know if they say they didn't have involvement in it, then they didn't. It's strange how nobody even thinks of bashing other religions and races involved in the passing of prop 8.
Re: Shans_Amazing – They do have the right to get married. They are free to marry anyone of the opposite sex just like the rest of us. So quite frankly we do all have equal rights. Also The public voted. It's amazing to me that people blame us.
why doesn't your dumb gay close-minded ass OPEN up your mind and realize that the mormom church believes something other than you and that doesn't make it WRONG and make them have to comment. just because someone has a different opinion than you doesn't make them wrong you fuckin idiot. you should be more open minded and accepting like republicans. you don't hear us whining and crying at every little thing that doesn't go our way or doesn't agree with us. nope - we realize everyone has different opinions and it's not right or wrong, it's life.
they can contribute however much and whatever they want to a cause they believe in…. just like you can…. duh you freak
