You Actually Like Commercials?

People always seem to complain about watching ads on television. But, a new study reveals that viewers find television more pleasurable when they actually watch commercials.
Really???????
NYU Stern School of Business researchers found that viewers did say they preferred to avoid advertisements. However, they rated their overall experience of watching a television show higher when commercials were included.
How does that make sense??????????
The report stated that "People often adapt to the experience of watching television such that each successive minute is slightly less enjoyable than the previous one. Advertisements, although independently aversive, disrupt this adaptation process and can therefore make the overall experience more enjoyable."
There are different reasons why ads during a show helped improve the experience.
The study said "A disruption in a suspenseful plotline might heighten anticipation and intensify its subsequent resolution. Similarly, commercials may offer opportunities to elaborate on what viewers have watched so far or to savor what is still to come."
Personally, we prefer not to have commercials while we watch TV.
What do U think?

harry wishes there was a fifth or sixth fast forward on his DVR.

Stools that appear pale or look like clay could be the result of lack of bile salt (which gives stool a brownish color), antacids, barium from recent barium enema test, or hepatitis.
Re: Laura-Anne – what are you pimpin'?
Re: suck my teat – We called it the channel channel!
What a load of crap. My television was out in the trash when ABC did their hit job in the Clinton's to excuse bush's allowance of 911!
TV sucks out your brain!
I think it's more enjoyable because it allows for bathroom and kitchen runs.
You Actually Like Commercials?
Almost as much as I like wiping my ass with a brillo pad!
There is some funny shit out there.
Smart and funny.
Hmmm……

imagine watching a one hour show with no commercial to go to the washroom or grab a snack.
Stupid commericals is what I hate, smart and funny are good. Also if a company buys the hour slot and the commerical is played 5+ times, even the funny gets annoying.
i hate commercials normally, but im always glad when they come on so i can pee or do other things like that and i dont have to miss my shows!
That is not true. I hate commercials. Ever since I got into recording tv shows and fast forwarding through the commercials, I don't think I could ever go back to watching them.
This is amazing!! I could not have gone through my day without knowing this! Thank you Perez…your the best! (Thank god for the DVR)
Re: commercial hate – butt me lik tV…..funny & ( . ) ( .)
What is this lady eating? Green Beans, Melon, Kiwi and Tomatoes? Hmm…
Hm, I can think of a few explanations for this:
- The collective shortening of attention spans in this media heavy culture make commercials a source of instantly gratifying entertainment (YouTube anyone?)
- Shows are written around expected breaks, try watching a show like House, Lost or 24 on DVD and you will sense something amiss about the pacing. The emotional denouement of a commercial break is accounted for by television creators who shape dramatic scenes accordingly.
Think of a show before it goes for break: revelation, heart-pounding music, intense dialogue. Commercial! Digest that last key scene, get giddy with expectation… It's part of the experience!
I flip channels during commercials. This study is Bullsh&t!!
I see kiwi. Fucking delicious.
Re: harrybalsac – one (.) is smaller than the other.
i have a DVR for a reason
We receive an awesome Austrian channel called ORF1, which plays really good movies at prime time and they have absolutely ZERO COMMERCIALS during movies. I always wondered how that's even possible….
if there were no commercials when would i pee?
Re: LoliBee – Yeah I typed" lopsided "after it but it didn't post like your pic, waiting for the Jess is still fat post!
The RealOrchidGirl & Mistress*****I can only speak for myself but I think other posters will feel me on this….you two are on EVERY post fighting back & forth like children…can't you exchange e-mails and do it amongst yourselves??? People come on here to blog about the issue posted about and your immature, stupid arguements are distracting and un nesessary…please grow up & STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually DO prefer commercials, although I know I'm in the few. Without commercials, nothing is there to force me to go relieve myself, or get food when I'm really hungry. Because without commercials, I have the ability to watch TV nonstop and I would rather finish the episode than pause it.
Also, some shows just work better with the breaks like that. Like someone else in the comments says, I couldn't imagine watching Lost without commercials all the time. Those commercials help me digest the insane information coming at me. During last weeks episode (which I had to tape), I had to PAUSE the tape in the middle of a scene so I could recover from what I'd learned. So honestly, this makes sense to me.
COMMERCIALS & INFOMERCIALS are the Very Best Part Of TV as far as I am concerned.
I don't. When LOST is on, but it's a commercial break I am extremely on edge and the commercials make me want to stab everyone in them.
I enjoy TV more on DVD or ZOMG PIRATED!!!!111oneoneone, because there are no interruptions and I can sit back and enjoy the reason I turned the TV on in the first place.
It looks like there's kiwi on that woman's plate which makes me really want to eat kiwi right now.
I hate commercials!! Always record everything on my DVR and fast forward through them!!
what a load of utter horse shit. obviously a paid 'research' team.
I watch VERY LITTLE commercial television.
Now days, it's almost equal time commercial - program ratio. It's media mind control.
What? A BUSINESS SCHOOL study has determined that people enjoy television more when ADVERTISEMENTS are included?!?! Shocking! And, FUCK THEM.
ew commercials are the reason i don't have cable
That's got to be a fucked-up study. I wonder who commissioned it.
I can't lie…some commercials are funny…I love the Swiffer commercial with the Mexican band singing "Baby come back"….that is so funny to me!!!
I hate commercials with a passion. They should just have them scroll across the bottom of the screen like the news. New Doritos chocolate flavored (yeah I don't know), BOGO now on at Payless. GENIUS!
mhm, actually adverts are the reason why i do not watch TV at all.
I HATE COMMERCIALS
I *HATE* commercials and I much much less TV then I did years ago because they have steadily increased the length and frequency of annoying commrcial breaks - not to mention that they run distracting crap across the screen *during* the programs and then cut the credits so you can't even read them! I watch stuff on DVD almost exclusively, mostly in order to avoid commercials.
I will gladly spend time watching commercials than drivel like World According to Jim.
For me personally, it's just the opportunity to go to the bathroom without missing any of the show.
