"Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. … The real difference is that [Harry Potter author] Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and [Twilight author] Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good."

Thank God for Stephen King…it's nice to know someone else shares my dislike of Stephenie Meyer's writing.

  3. 3

i've read both sagas…harry potter wins by a landslide..

    stephen king's kinda right.

  4. 4

both made robert pattinson famous though

  5. 5

Whoa Harsh. I really enjoyed the Twilight Series.

  6. 6

thanks Stephen now quit talking to yourself and go sit down

  7. 7

    Wooo! Couldn't agree more!
I'm glad someone has acknowledged it!

  8. 8

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! FINALLY someone tells it like it is!! LOL LOL LOL LOL!!

  9. 9

That may be true but its not a very nice thing for a reknowned author to say about another aspiring author.

  10. 10

That is absolute Bullshit … he is clearly jealous of her new found fame

  11. 11

I agree with him, she makes her main female character to be too whiny and annoying, it makes you want to stop reading the book!!! She needs to learn to balance her characters more!!

  12. 12

I'm a fan of both HP and Twilight books but I completely agree!!! Stephanie Meyer is not very sharp in her writing skills. I still loved the books, don't get me wrong but yeah I agree that her writing kinda sucks. I think her fame had a lot to do with timing. Good for her though! The first movie was amazing and I'm sure the next 3 will be just as good :)

  13. 13

Well writing's subjective innit, his opinion isnt gold

  14. Nenns says – reply to this

He is an old hag who wants some of the attention!!! Everyone has gotten bored of the same kind of books Steven!!! Yay for Stephenie!!!

  15. 15

Whatever! I read all 4 books in a month. I couldn't put them down. She's an excellent writer and is laughing all the way to the bank. He's just jealous because he's not relevant anymore.

  16. 16

Clearly Stephen King was having a bad day… Seems to be running alot in Hollywood. (think Christian Bale)….

  17. 17

I've read both, and Rowling is way more better than Meyer. She's just a talentless amateur.

  18. 18

Ouch! Damn, Stephen King, you are being a bit rough.

I read all 4 books. The first two were very good, but the second two were rather disappointing to me. Not because of the writing, but the direction the story went.

Rowling is the better writer, but Meyer is fine. She spun a good story. It ain't Shakespeare, but it works.

  19. 19

  20. 20

Soooooooooo true. As much as I loved the actual story, the writing was so terribly brutal that I couldn't even finish the book.

  21. 21

    to each their own…

  22. 22

FINALLY someone of 'authority' said the truth :D :D And what the fuck is up with her having vampires GLITTER in the sun?!! :o :o :O WTF?!

  23. 23

Jeez, pervez, Stephen King can read her like a book! Wonder why he didn't say anything about your recent failure at writing? Have you started on your diet yet (remember, July 4th is just around the corner!)? Probably another failure is in your future.

  24. 24

And why do you have an X on Bella's face? She's gorgeous! You always hate women who are with guys you think are hot. Sorry, but he doesn't play for your team! Get over it.

  25. 25

Although I LOVE them both, it's kinda true. Twilight is a great story! Not great writing. Still love it though!

  26. 26

  27. 27

And that is one ugly mother fucker in that picture up above!

  28. 28

stephen king is a fantastic writer… but obviously an awful critic! you have lost your mind!!

  29. 29

I actually really enjoyed the Twilight books.. I thought they were written very well.. I hated Harry Potter

  30. ag says – reply to this

my sentiments exactly–I started reading Twilight the other night and had to put it down after 20 pages because the writing was the pits!

  31. 31

SOOOO TRUE! That's why I hate those books!

  32. 32

Ball gargler, you ain't ice cubes chance in hell with him so stop X-ing out the babes, DICK!

  33. enen says – reply to this

thank god!!!! someone needs to shut up all these tweeny twilight fans. it's so fucking annoying not to mention the books AREN'T EVEN THAT GOOD! you can tell by the dialogue and structure that it's meant for an 8th grader. stephen king is the man. ever read one of his books? I used to have nightmares!

  34. 34

completely agree. both books are completely retarded and make me wish hitler was still around to burn them, but at least harry potter is well written.

  35. 35

    HAHAHAHAHA!! You tell 'em Kingy!
I'd like to hear his opinion on Perez's book.

  36. 36

  37. 37

i agree, she isn't a very good writer. I wanted to like the books, but was disappointed.

  38. 38

You know, that is a good point. Harry Potter is very well written and Twilight, though it is an amazing story, is kind of amateur.

  39. 39

what an idiot , any author that has the success Stephanie Myers has had must be doing something right, I have read all of the twilight books and they were like crack, cant say any of his books have been like that to me so he needs to stop being jealous

  40. Kate says – reply to this

It's true. Having read both series, JK Rowling wins hands down. The 13 year old girl in me loved Twilight, but the English major loved Harry Potter.

  41. PFF says – reply to this

Well, he's right. She's created a brilliant story which has truly captivated her audience, but God she is really a bad writer.
and why have you crossed out kristen stewart's face, what have you against her?!

  42. 42

Buuurrrrrnnn. I haven't read either of the series'. I've seen some of the HP films, and they were grand. Twilight was a bore. It felt all over the place. Huge disappointment, especially with all the hype around it. Luckily Robert Pattinson can find a way out.

I don't care what Stephen King thinks/says/writes. He is an idiot in my book, ever since I heard he didn't like Kubrick's take on The Shining. That movie is BOMB.

  43. 43

You can not compare Rowling to Meyer. I wish everyone would stop comparing Meyer to Rowling. Meyer's is writes romance novels. Her books are addictive, and although the writing is a bit too silly at times, they are good. I am 23 and I have felt like a 14 year old teenager all over again. I have been so happy to have been wrapped up into the Vampire Werewolf sagas. NO one can deny that she has MILLIONS of fans WORLDWIDE and keeps the youngin's READING. That's what its all about.

  44. 44

    she's ugly and he's gay.
    nothing there to hope for.
    TrueBlood is the only choice.

  45. 45

Re: buffytvs – because she's a BITCH and she sucks as bella. read some of her interviews

  46. enen says – reply to this

and anyone here saying stephen king is jealous is a fucking MORON. stupid 15 year old idiots. stephen king jealous? of some tweeny book selling less talented writer that won't even be around in a year? he's a LEGECY. I can't even believe anyone can make such a moronic statement. I hate how high schoolers think they know everything.

  47. GHock says – reply to this

So true! Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE fan of the Twilight books (1, 2, 3 were decent, 4 blew the big one but I loved it nonetheless…) but she really. can't. write.

  48. 48

    Utter HogWartz…I mean Hogwash. ;)

  49. 49

uh duh….hes just stating the facts.
i still LOVE twilight but stephs writting is amatuer.
jk is way past her though

  50. J says – reply to this

THANK YOU! Finally! I seriously thought that reading the first Twilight book made me dumber-my brain slowly turned into mush. The sad thing is, I really do want to read the other 3 and find out what happens but I can't bring myself to read another one-seriously, I laughed out loud at some of the writing. I know it's young adult, but a 1st grader could have breezed through that thing.

  51. 51

I've read one Stephen King book and I couldn't read anymore it was so trashtastic! Who does he think he is? It's not like he's gotten the nobel prize or anything.

  52. Daxie says – reply to this

Well F*** YOU Stephen King! I guess the millions of readers of Stephenie Meyer's work must all be complete tards!

  53. 53

Bitter much, Stephen? I have been reading all of Stephen King and his aliases since the early 80's, and I can be an expert witness that he is extremely repetitive in his story lines and writing. While I am am a big fan of King, his comment makes him look like a big ass…………..Rowling and Meyer are two completely different kind of story tellers, and I admire BOTH of their work. I like Harry Potter for it's magical story–and it's fun. I like the Twilight saga for it's love story. I read all of the Harry's within two days of each release, and I read all the Twilight's within three weeks since I was late to the game.

  54. 54

as much as i looved the twilight series….i do agree with him!! i loved the whole idea of the books, but some of the plot lines were just down right ludacris!! and even tho the movie doesnt account for the book….when i was watching it……i felt embarassed and cringed a bit!!! i dont care i still LOVE IT! i'm just saying its not shakespeare or anything like it! who cares!

  55. Deeg says – reply to this

um, obvi. i've been saying this for years

  56. Daxie says – reply to this

Re: scullyinlondon – Well said! The TYPE of book you are reading is what you need to consider when determining if it is well written. Any book that brings back that "new love" feeling to my soul is worth it all the way. TO ALL THE HATERS IN HERE - LAY OFF! Especially if you haven't even read the books! Good writing is in the eye's of the reader. What one may find amazing another may find trivial. To each their own, but ALL literature should be appreciated for the lives it touched.

  57. 57

VERY TRUE… the Twilight Saga is a good story, but the writing is kind of…off

  58. 58

Ahem, I am a fan of all three of these authors….. Stephen King is amazing, I loved the Harry Potter books, still do, and I liked Twilight. Stephenie Meyer is still a fairly new writer, she has a lot to learn yes, but I did enjoy here books, not just Twilight but The Host as well. It was kind of refreshing to read something a new author brought to the table. Like I said, I do like all three of these writers a lot, they all have something different to offer.

  59. 59

im the most obssed person with twilight and i have read the harry potter books too and for me its different everyone has defferent them and for me twilight is better waaaaaaaaaaaaay better that he is a old guy with no ilution in life its honestly not my problem..

  60. Ooch says – reply to this

Not a complete mess but he's right…she's not very good. The only good that came out of that series is my secret obsession with wanting to become a vampire, and my new found weakness for 22 year old British accents who play them in movies.

  61. 61

To that I say: FUCK YOU STEPHEN KING!!! I've read some of his books and while his stories ARE good sometimes he just writes WAAAAY too much dialogue that you end up finding yourself a little bored with the story its like -get to the point!!! Anyway its his own opinion but i think its a stupid one.

  62. 62

Re: enen – "LEGACY"…oops I guess no one is without fault

  63. ring says – reply to this

That is soo true! I only read part one and I won't read the other ones! Bella is so annoying!

  64. 64

Re: J – I forced myself through the 2nd book, I've yet to even try w/the next two.

  65. 65

To add examples of repetitiveness of King: Christine, Maximum Overdrive, From a Buick 8 Rolls eyes…

  66. 66

hahaha! now THAT is funny…and so true. i love Stephen King!

  67. 67

    Re: harrybalsac
HAHA Good morning harrybalsax, he is so gaytard.
Here is the latezt on George Anthony in the nuthouze. He's still here in Datona Beach, but he will be moving soon to a treatment center in Orlando. They want to have a a funeral via satelite for Casey to morn and the fuzz said no. She doesn't deserve to be at Cayleez funeral. Caseyz funeral has been moved up from March till next year. She continues to show her anger in her court hearings.
She's also a fat hog now. HAHA
morning to all bitches and haterz

  68. 68

    Stephen King sux eggs!!!

  69. 69

Although I'm a Twilight AND a Harry Potter fan I completely agree with Stephen. [a]

  70. 70

I agree., Twilight was horribly written

  71. 71

    personal opinions don't mean shit

I've never picked up a stephen king novel…but read all 4 of stephanies twilight books.

  72. 72

    Re: DaBitchIzIndakrazihouze – correction:
    caseyz (((( court hearing==not funeral )))) HAHA
    but it will be her F U N E R A L………………….OH YEZZZZ

  73. 73

Amen. Meyer sucks balls. Seriously…nothing happened for the first three books.

    HP can't be beat.

  74. 74

I totally agree! I like reading the Twilight series, but Stephenie Meyer's writing really sucks. Kudos for imagination though

  75. 75

  76. 76

okay well jk rowling might be a better author than stephenie meyer but rowling is nowhere near "terrific."
its all about having the right idea that appeals to a lot of people
jk rowling disguises the fact that she has no writing style by using her imagination. Both authors actually do that. neither one is a "terrific" writer
they just both happened to have amazing ideas.

  77. 77

    Re: hoffermayer – DEF AGREE

  78. 78

A bowel movement should be soft and easy to pass, though some people may have harder or softer stools than others. Stool should be brown or golden brown, be formed, have a texture similar to peanut butter, and have a size and shape similar to a sausage.

  79. 79

The man has gone senile. And even if she wasn't a terrific writer(which she is), she can think up a damn good story! Stephen King can suck it.

  80. 80

Re: J – EXACTLY!! I am an English teacher and I read the first book over Christmas vacation to make my freshman happy. I can see why they like it - it sounds like they wrote it. I kept laughing out loud on the plane because Ms. Meyer's writing was so basic. The majority of her sentences had no focus. I teach freshman and AP juniors and if my students turned that in, I would hand it right back with a big red "REDO" on the top. Though I like the general idea and would like to see where it goes, I couldn't be paid enough to read any more of them. Mr. King is an unbelievable writer, as is Ms. Rowling. Both authors deserve every accolade they can get. Ms. Meyers - stick to trashy, supermarket romances - maybe you will get lucky again and the teenage Miley Cyrus lovers will come calling yet again.

  81. 81

Well I mean he's not far off, her books dwell overly long on ridiculously minute conversations, she invents conflict and anger where none would exist etc… Rowling can absorb you from page one.

  82. 82

Re: Jones19 – how retarded are you, really? writers get a little something called the Pulitzer prize, not the fucking Nobel. although Meyers has a good story line, it has the reading comp of a Th grader. i liked the movie, but come the fuck on- compare how much she money she has made to how much king as made and you'll see who wins. Meyer's will be irreverent in a few years, whereas king as been around for decades.

  83. 83

hahahaha good. I'm glad I haven't wasted my time reading those books then

  84. 84

edit: "reading comp of a 7th grader

  85. 85

I haven't read the books, but I already figured they must be bad, because all my friends who recommended them to me and said they were well written, have HORRIBLE taste in literature.

  86. 86

    So very true!

  87. 87

    True sh*t.
Read both and even though I do enjoy Twilight on some level, I've always found the Twilight/HP-comparison to be terribly unfair. Not just because Rowling's writing is so much better, but because of the complexity of the universe and characters she's created. Twilight's about angsty teens almost getting themselves killed all the time. The main character is whiny and pathetic (how many times can you say you love somebody so much that it hurts before it gets old?). It's just hard to sympathize with someone who obviously doesn't give a cr*p about anything except for her boyfriend (that she basically only really likes because he's so hot). Most of the other characters remain pretty flat throughout the series. And the ones that do evolve become annoying rather than more interesting (Jacob, anyone?). Compare this to the HP series: Harry can be a whiny teen, but that's just one side of him. And when the series progressed, Harry's mother and Voldemort remained as the only 2 characters that were either purely good or purely evil.

  88. 88

I am a fan of the books, but reading meyer made me feel like I was dumbing it down. I liked the overall story, but not the way it was written.

  89. 89

Re: stars101 – wow, seriously? anyone who is going to compare writer's careers to fuckin' britney spears and miley really doesn't need to chime into the conversation.
    go back to high school.

  90. 90

It's very true.. I couldn't put down the Harry Potter series once I had begun to read them.. However, after I excitedly bought Twilight to see if it could be as entertaining a read, I found myself struggling to want to finish it.. her writing is a bit boring.

  91. 91

You ignorant fangirlz who are willing to argue that Stephanie is a good writer really should READ more and you'll see the difference in the books. Theres a difference because being a good novelist and a frakin fan fiction writer.

  92. 92

king is right, meyers bookd r nice to read but also all kinda the same…
she didint make anything new… its sth that was around everytime; romeo and julia stuff.
nothing new, but harry potter was.
    so jkr wins

  93. 93

Thank you, Stephen King!!!! Twilight reads like a high school English class assignment. It may be interesting, but well-written, absolutely not.

  94. 94

Someone knows what hes talking about!!!

Both series are really good dont get me wrong, and I like Twilight, but its such an easy read- if I had her imagination I could have wrote it…
JK Rowling is an Amazing writer, just read the first chapters of each book and you can tell! Stephen King recognizes good work, people like Twilight because of the story not because of the way it is written.

  95. 95

Re: DaBitchIzIndakrazihouze – Ok, thanks I guess.

  96. 96

    NO HE DIDNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    STEPHANIE MEYER IS MY HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  97. 97

I think most people here summed it up. The books are good, yes, but it's not anywhere near Rowling's talent. You can't compare them.

  98. 98

Stephanie may not be the best writer in the world, but her books are read by millions of people all over the world. People love her writing style because it's simple and easy to fall into.
Rowlings is a better writer but they both wrote captivating serieses that the world loves!

  99. 99

Also, the only reason Stephenie Meyer got even remotely famous is because the tweeners who read Harry Potter were clueless as to what to do with their lives after the seventh was written. Bookstores saw a new series coming out and billed it as the "New Harry Potter," not knowing any more than both dealt with the supernatural. Kids bought into it.

  100. 100

Even though she is an English major she doesn't claim to be an excellent writer. This is from her page "Despite having very little writing experience, in a matter of three months she had transformed that vivid dream into a completed novel."

I guess if a shitty writer can sell over 40 mil copies of her books, imagine what Stephen King SHOULD be selling… Oh, wait. Nobody cares about him anymore. He is an attention whore.
