Unless you really know what it's like to work on a film shoot, you can't really judge. I work in the costume dept. You NEVER go in the eyeline of an actor. It is not excusable but maybe understandable.

I can't imagine being an actor and having to be so in the moment and I don't know how they do it. If it was this big emotional scene and he was trying to get into it, it would be distracting to have someone in your eye line reminding you of your acting. I'm sure it took him out of the moment and if his scene was emotional, one would have to expect him to react emotionally. What I would like to know is WHY or WHO released this tape? Clearly someone is trying to undermine him. It's very unprofessional to let this get out. Terminator isn't exactly Little Women. People should lay off…
He was giving out to the DOP for being unprofessional but how professional is it to rant and curse at a co-worker on the set!?Theres no excuse for talking to someone like that!!!

How is that any different than when Ms. Patti LuPone started yelling at the guy in the audience at Gypsy taking pictures. When you are acting, on stage or on film, it requires you to be in a completely different mindset than in reality. It is work. And especially if he was filming an aggressive scene at the time, then he would have already been in that state of mind. I think that he and Patti were completely justified in their freakouts.
The only reason that anyone is still talking about this is because of what happened with his mom and his sister. They aren't connected and he doesn't have an aggression problem. Leave it alone.

INEXCUSABLE!!! I am in the entertainment business…granted, I am in theatre and have done little film work…but if there is one thing I learned in college it was that you respect everyone around you even down to the smallest role, extra, every stage person, and crew. There is a way that could have been handled that did not degrade the D.P. He had a job to do too. And apparently he saw something that needed to be adjusted and even if Christian had performed the scene perfectly, if the shot was off then it would have been unusable and had to be redone anyway.
He would never yell at a director that way or a Producer…cause then he would be out of a job.
Fact of the matter is he thinks he is better than everyone and that the D.P. is below him on whatever Hierarchy he thinks he is ruling!!
Sad thing is he is a great actor.

That it takes everyone a lot of time to do the movie and so not to waste anyone's. Did he take it too far, yes. Should he have yelled for 3 minutes, no. But this also wasn't the first time the D.P. had done this either. He had been warned numerous times before to stop adjusting the lights DURING a scene. They all make valid points but the fact of the matter is is blew up way longer and more extreme than was necessary to get his point across. The person who should have reamed the DP is the director.
I know how stressful it can be both my parents are producers I grew up in and around the industry. Christian freaked out in a very unprofessional manner and there were other and better ways to handle the situation case closed.

Ms. LuPone corrected some idiots that were not only disrupting what I am sure was a stellar performance for the rest of the audience but also potentially endangering her well-being with blinding flashes.
As well, recordings of performances in New York's Broadway Theaters by the public are not allowed. An announcement to this effect is made prior to the start of each performance. LuPone is a class act; Bale could learn a lot from her (aside from the obvious).

I've been on a set (admittedly much less of a big deal than T4, and microscopic in comparison to that particular situation), where I did something almost as inexcusably stupid as fiddling with the lights, and I got bitched out pretty hardcore by not one but two people. Did I deserve it? Yes. Was it as hardcore as Bale's rant? No, but if it had been, it would have been totally justified. Did I do it again? Hell no. I learned my lesson.
To quote Bill Maher, "Don't be polite, an ass-kicking is what's called for." You don't learn from your mistakes if you don't suffer from them.
And "it's just entertainment, not brain surgery" doesn't cut it. If you don't take your job seriously, no matter what it is, you're not going to do it well. Which is why any movie with Christian Bale in it is better than that stupid mall cop movie that is inexplicably popular right now.
There's something so ironic about a DP fucking up the shot on multiple occasions during multi-million dollar filming. Honestly, I don't see how anyone can judge anyone regarding the situation when we've only heard a small snippit of what happened without having any details other what can be deciphered in the clip. All we know is that the DP got into the shot on more than one occasion (which is completely unacceptable… he's the guy in charge of the camera and what's in the shot for godsakes) and that Bale has a temper. However, we don't know what happened after this incident either. The DP wasn't fired. Maybe there was a calmer conversation later, maybe Bale apologized. Who knows? And honestly, who cares?

I'm not saying how he handled it was appropriate…
but growing up with a father with a temper about anything wrong in his life - my mom and I just learned to get over it and not take it seriously. After he's done his little blow up, he calms down and apologizes.
What is most important is how the situation is dealth with afterwards and I would like to think that both parties made up.
This kind of thing happens in any job and in any relationship (sure maybe they make less or more use of the f-word) everyone has feelings of anger, and people are sometimes pushed to express it.
People aren't perfect…and I really hate how some people feel they're walking on some moral high ground in comparison to everybody else (whose the one thinking they're the big deal? Christian Bale? or the people on here indirectly claiming that they never fuck up?)

I totally agree. like I said before, I also work on big movie set. A professional DP will not fiddle with lights during action, especially in the actor's eye line. There's a protocol to respect. It does not excuse a 4 min. tirade though.
