The Boss Stands Up for His Fans
Ticketmaster's got lots of 'splainin' to do!
On Monday, some Bruce Springsteen fans hit a shady glitch on the Ticketmaster site when they tried to buy tix for his New Jersey-Meadowlands show. Apparently, they were being locked out of buying 'face value' seats only to find themselves directed to Ticketmaster sister company's website, TicketsNow, who were selling the locked out seats at a higher, legally 'scalped' price.
A New Jersey congressman has already called for an investigation into the shadiness.
And now, the Boss and his people have jumped into the fray.
In an open letter on his official site, Bruce expresses outrage at what fans had to go through and was able to use his Boss powers for a little good. Says the music legend, "We have asked this redirection from Ticketmaster to TicketsNow cease and desist immediately and Ticketmaster has agreed to do so in the future and has removed its unwanted material from their and our site."
The Boss also took the opportunity to speak out against the proposed merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster, as it would make ticketing even more disastrous for fans:
A final point for now: the one thing that would make the current ticket situation even worse for the fan than it is now would be Ticketmaster and Live Nation coming up with a single system, thereby returning us to a near monopoly situation in music ticketing. Several newspapers are reporting on this story right now. If you, like us, oppose that idea, you should make it known to your representatives.
Fight the evil vertical integration!
Bruce also promised fans that he and his team will do what they can to keep Ticketmaster from effing over his fans in the future:
"The abuse of our fans and our trust by Ticketmaster has made us as furious as it has made many of you. We will continue to do our utmost now and in the future to make sure that these practices are permanently curtailed on our tours."

This happened to me too in CT for the Hartford show. Instead of 96 dollars they were selling them for over 200 on ticketsNow. Bad job Ticketmaster.

He's all talk, he can't do anything and neither can anyone else. Ticketmaster is a piece of shit company which the entire performing industry should take on and permanently put out of business. Pearl Jam tried it about 15 years ago and had no luck because they were alone in their efforts, but at least they made an effort.

I would no more pay to see a Springsteen concert than I would watch a Sean Penn movie as I am so tired of hearing them espouse political views I don't agree with that the media trumpets just because their 'celebrities' …. I could name another fifty actors along with Penn. Shut the fuck up!
I wouldn't be too scared of a merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster, Live Nation is almost a talent management company (look at the deal Madonna scored with them!) and Ticketmaster wants to stick with their gouging handling fees and concert promotions. But to anyone who's dealt with both companies like I have, I think that they're both on par with each other as far as shady business practices!

Since the redirection from Ticketmaster to TicketsNow does not happen anymore does not mean that Tickmaster has any inventory! They still sold them all to there parent company. You can only get them on second hand sites like TicketsNow and StubHub. There both legalized scalping! We as a public must not use these services and instead of going to the concert support your favorite artist in other ways like CD's and merch. Party in the parking lot. Stop using these sites! At least StubHub does not own any other the tickets like Ticketmaster.
Re: zbitch – Ticket prices for Springsteen range from $65-$95. There is no ticket higher than $95. Springsteen has always kept his ticket prices extremely reasonable, especially since his shows are usually three hours - twice as long as many other major performers.
So who goes to shows anymore?

Wow. Good for him..and us. I am not a Springsteen music lover…even though I am a Jersey Girl…but I am always going to the Meadowlands. I'm glad he stood up to them. STOP TRYING TO RIP US OFF DOUCHBAGS!!!!!
