Salma Breastfeeds The Hungry - Really!

On a recent visit to the West African country of Sierra Leone with ABC's Nightline, Salma Hayek was generous enough to donate her mammary glands to a malnourished newborn!!!
She felt an immediate bond with the baby because the newborn coincidentally shares a birthday with Hayek's little daughter, Valentina.
Saint Salma addressed the concern of sharing her daughter's milk with another baby. "I actually think that my baby would be very proud to be able to share her milk, and when she grows up, I'm going to make sure she continues to be caring, generous person," says Hayek.

I think that she did a beautiful thing. This baby's mother's milk had dried up and she couldn't feed her child. Salma may have saved a life and she didn't even have to spend a cent.

I would be a little worried that my own child might catch something incurable after this completely unrelated baby that I knew nothing medically about, breastfed off my breast. It was a beautiful thing to do but I personally would have pumped some breast milk out somehow, and bottle fed the baby.

I don't think she would even be in Africa if she wasn't giving other things like time and money retard. Not only is that cool, that is the ultimate in caring. Anyone can throw money at charities, but to actually do something as personal as to breast feed a starving baby shows that you heart is in it. Soooooooooooo proud of you Salma!

Love and compassion transcends all…BUT why is a news story centered on her breastfeeding a baby? If she did it out of love I applaud her, but it seems as if it was a focal point of the interview/scene/plot. An altruistic act would have been done without cameras and an interview.
Its very natural in Italy. you can pay for the services of a "wet nurse" to breast feed your baby if a mother is not able.

What she did was selfless and the ultimate of caring. And a few of you must be educated. You can not contract HIV/AIDS from breastfeeding a child. The baby was more at risk of contracting a disease from Salma then the opposite. Also, you can donate breastmilk for babies in need of this type of nourishment to help with a multitude of medical issues. Please contact the La Leche League International.

This is a baby, a life, they do not have the same resources as us, EVEN with the state that we are in economically we still have more than people in other nations will ever have…to call this baby a CREATURE! that makes those people that stated this the Creature, obviously since they lack a heart and soul. She is obviously trying to shed light to a problem, and I am sure backing it up financially. That was a heartfelt, spur of the moment thing to do, and I think born out of genuine concern. I am a mother and if faced with a starving, perhaps close to death child what kind of person would I be if I didn't help?

i would not hesitate to do this myself, i breastfeed both my girls for longer than a year and a breast is not a sexual object to me (unless, i want them to be)
but i absolutely loved breastfeeding my girls, i mentioned it today when i saw my 1 1/2 yr old sipping on regular milk. I miss the bond. I am so proud of Salma today, i think what she did was wonderful….I have more respect for her now than i did before. this is a beautiful story.

wow she is a saint, that was very sweet that she did that! I breastfeed my babies ages 1 and 2 and boy its a chore, one that i love but still a chore non the less, i dont know how i would feel about breastfeeding someone elses kid, so i applaud her.

I think that the US has made the Breast such a sexual object that we have forgotten what they are truly meant for, which is of course nourishment. Not long ago women were "Wet Nurses" to mothers who either could not feed or (such as royalty) did not feed their own children. This is a beautiful loving thing that Selma Hayek has done and though we may find it out of sorts for our culture, it is much more "normal" than we as American's think.
