Academy Says It Just Didn't Have Time For DMB's LeRoi Moore

Countless fans were outraged when the Grammys failed to mention the late LeRoi Moore, saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band, in the awards show's Encore segment.

In response, the Academy now says in a statement:

"Nearly 250 members of our music community have passed in the last year, and all of them have been listed in the program book for the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards, including LeRoi Moore. For the "Encore" segment of our annual GRAMMY Awards telecast, unfortunately we are unable to include all of the talented and wonderful people within the allotted timeframe. The Academy recognizes Moore's contributions to music and music education, and we are deeply saddened by his premature passing."

Yup, sounds like a snub!

The dude was not only a talented musician, but a great contributor to music education, and Moore will be remembered forever.

      who does?

    2. 2

Didn't we cover this on Monday Mario?

    3. 3

You MAKE time, bitches! Without these people you wouldn't have a show to begin with.

    4. 4

are they serious???? arent those tributes like, 5 seconds each?? They messed up and need to apologize for it. grammys suck!

    5. 5

Had to get that wonderful performance by Stevie Wonder and The Jonas Sisters on stage.

    6. 6

Re: harrybalsac – lmao …yeah there like the new Beatles….

    7. 7

This was an outrageous oversight by the Academy. I'm not a DMB fan, but even I am aware of the mass appeal they had and the command over the business their live tours had.

    8. 8

Perez, thank you for bring this up, I love you and Im a long time Dave Matthews Band fan….it was a snub…bitcheeessss

    9. 9

Re: LizardKinG – I bet the told Stevie he's was playin' Sting or McCartney and then pulled that shit on him!

    10. 10

ATTENTION HORNDOGS: Tyler Durton's site has pics of Nicole from PCD on the cover of FHM. Meow!

    11. 11

Wow, are you serious? The music industry lost 250 members in a year????? That's unbelievable!!!!!!! Very sad too.

    12. 12

I dont even know who that is.

    13. 13

actually. so not cool. they should have apologized, because he is amazing and should have been in the video 100%

    14. 14

How can this be a snub?
They lost 250 people in the industry, Moore being 1 out of 250. They listed him in the program book, so they clearly didn't snub him. Why is there no outrage over any of the other deceased that were not put into the encore?

    15. 15

It's bullshit. The Grammy's fucked-up big time. LeRoi has done more for the music community, charity, and music education than the whole panel of assholes behind the Grammy's combined. It was just complete disrespect on their part. If you really want to honor him…make a contribution to the LeRoi Moore Memorial Fund.

    16. 16

if they had time for the 5th best-selling accordion player of 1978, they should have had time for a founding member of one the best-selling bands of of the past couple decades

They mentioned people that were not even as credible. Why can't these parasites just admit that it was overlooked? It was as important as if Brandford Marsalis or Stewart Copeland died. Remember…these are the same dumbasses that gave a grammy to Jethro Tull instead of Metallica for best Heavy Metal Act. Their panels suck…..

    18. 18

250 people died. why is everyone so upset over this one "oversight"? he was in the program book. all 250 of them contributed something to music, just because his band was more popular than a lot of the others doesn't mean he is more deserving.

    19. 19

such a shame! he is so missed.

    20. 20

This is the same organization that chose Jethro Tull as best heavy metal group over Metallica. No one should take these fuckers seriously.

Re: Mike_Rotch – This is coming from the same asswipe that said white people destroy all music…you my friend need to check your head

    22. 22

They didn't have time for ONE MORE person? Is that seriously their LAME ASS excuse??? PAAAAAAALEEESSSSEEEEE!!!!

    23. 23

THEY DID THIS TO YMA SUMAC AS WELL, WHO WAS A LEGEND. HER SNUB ANGERED A LOT OF PEOPLE, INCLUDING HER WEB SITE.

    24. 24

Totally disgusting!! I am one of the outraged!!!

    25. 25

Re: Hole – lol. i can't believe you took that seriously. it was a joke..a poorly delivered joke obviously if it pissed you off that much. what i was trying to say, for the last time, is that michael jackson's music sucked when he became white. jeezus, i'm white

my head's just fine, thanks for your concern

    26. 26

      FUCK OFF!

Okay, if you really have a problem like this you should be listing all the others who weren't listed as well. You single one guy out, but fail to mention the others who were snubbed and may or may not be more influential. You're doing the same thing as the grammy academy has done: singled out who you thought was most important and forgot the rest. Think before you post.

      FUCKING IGNORANT HYPOCRITES!!!!

Re: Mike_Rotch – This is where I could tell you to die from a long painful bout of ass cancer….but I understand your point about MJ. it was received wrong and mildly racist regardless…but painfully true. I was more concerned with the all white people comment. It seemed broad

Re: miley_fan_of_canada – Why don't you go put on your latest Miley Cyrus outfit and put on the new Jonas Bros and shut your mouth. We aren't saying he was more influential than anyone…go take your meds

    29. 29

Re: Hole – i meant for it to be broad. i was trying to be ironic. i only wanted to offend michael jackson. thanks for not wishing me the painful bout of ass cancer.

Maybe if they put a time limit on the rambling musicians' speeches, there'd be more time for a proper tribute. DMB was one of the best groups of the late 90s, not to mention winners of many Grammy awards and Mr. Moore deserved to be honored for his work. What a shame.

    31. 31

i'm thinking they shouldn't pay tribute to anyone who has passed during the televised part of the show…cause there is always someone left out, and someone who has to pick people who they deem "more important" than others…

    32. 32

How many people knew him name before he passed? Or even remembered him until the story came out. I love Dave Matthews Band and it's really sad, but I understand why they can't mention every person who died. Maybe they'll make a whole show about dead musicians and then you'll be happy.

    33. 33

Why can't they just admit to the oversight and make a REAL apology? You MAKE time for this. LeRoi and the band have done very much for the music industry and the world at large. There was absolutely no good reason for excluding him.

    34. 34

What the fuck you idiots??! What exactly is your conspiracy theory that led them to single out him (along with 100 others) to not show in the encore section? Maybe if you got a job you would understand having to make decisions.

    35. MoeBR says – reply to this

      35

This is absolute bullsh*t and I'm deeply saddened that LeRoi wasn't acknowledged the way he should have been - some of those people shown in the montage are important, but much more irrelevant to the 2009 Grammy's. What an outrageous oversight!

    36. 36

Re: Hole – You are an ignorant assclown

    37. 37

The didn't "pass". They died. Deal with it. You're all going to die. You're not going to "pass".

    38. 38

God, you're slow lately Perez. Ya gotta read TMZ!

    39. 39

the grammy's are bullshit anyways and award talentless entertainers. i am not surprised of the snub. in general, the grammy's don't know shit about real music and real art. DMB forever

Re: OKCBigEasy – Go have grandma make you a little sandwich and go bang your sister. No one said their was a conspiracy theory you fukin idiot. No one is telling anyone anything…we are only making a point that the grammy's are catered to A list top 40 shit and the occasional street cred award to someone who's hot again. For you it would be like if Creed wasn't recognized…or who else do you like? Brooke Hogan. The only thing ignorant is that you failed to read what we were talking about…jobs? what does that mean? Does that mean when you commented you weren't working also?

      What's the big friggin deal??

    43. 43

LeRoi was very important to the music biz. He was snubed.

    44. 44

WTF???? That's the most stupid excuse i've ever heard!!!! IDIOTS!

    45. 45

That sounds like what happened with Brad Renfro last year at the Oscars. That was just pathetic. So is this.

    46. 46

big ups to Roi - we miss you buddy. RIP.
