Writers Guild May Discipline Leno

Even though it's been a year since the strike, the WGA West is reportedly still considering disciplinary action against Jay Leno, a Writers Guild member, for presenting self-penned monologues when his show was on during the strike last year.

Leno is facing "expulsion or suspension from guild membership, imposition of monetary fines or censure" according to WGA strike rules. There is, however, an appeals process.

During the strike, Leno paid his staff out of pocket, and after a great deal of back and forth between Leno and the WGA, it was thought that the matter had been resolved.

Do U think the WGA is going too far?

    haha! first!
    douche!

  2. 2

    That's ridiculous.

  3. 3

Yeah I think they are going too far.
He should be able to create his own intellectual properties.

  4. 4

    Yup!

  5. 5

    I think people suck!

  6. 6

Strike or no strike, he should still be allowed to use thoughts from his own head. This is beyond ridiculous!

  7. 7

stupid! they should let him be

  8. 8

Yes, they are ridiculous. Their strike put lots of non-writers out of work. If he wanted to not only pay people with his own money but also write stuff so that the show could go on and people would still have jobs, more power to him!

  9. 9

ew. he is so annoying. his chin is so abnormally large.

    BORING NEWS, SUCKS ASS.
WHERE ARE BRITNEY AND PARIS, THE GOOD OLD CELEBS?!

  11. 11

They are DEFINITELY stepping over the line there. NBC FORCED Leno back to work…

  12. 12

are they serious? they should be thanking him, paying him, kissing his feet……..anything but DISCIPLINING him. he acted so responsibly and maturely during that whole fiasco

  13. 13

    Totally..i love Jay

  14. 14

Are the going to be taking action against the writers who accepted his money? It's non-union pay! If he's going to be disciplined, so should they.

For the record, I think this is ridiculous. I love Jay!!!

  15. 15

yep. they are just trying to make ans example of some body so everyone will be scared. ooohhh.

  16. 16

I'm for Jay. Screw the Union.

  17. 17

    RIDICULOUS.

  18. 18

There going to far. Leno had an agreement to abide by AND out of his deep pockets, he paid writers (he didn't have to). Jay is a good guy. WGA needs to find someone else for back door publicity.

  19. 19

That is awful! These guild people are going way too far. He paid his people out of pocket, unlike most, and kept them working during hard times. They should just leave him alone!

  20. 20

they fucked up so much with that strike…this is just ridiculous…

  21. 21

No, I don't think so..because that was a part of the leading of the state of the economy…Shame on WGA

  22. 22

Fuck yes thats too far. Jay Leno is probably one of the nicest and most gracious people Ive ever met. He was in a difficult spot with pressure from his network and the need to put on a half decent show. Get over it, there's much worse things WGA needs to be concerned about right now, namely half of the writers about to be unemployed because few productions are getting funded now or anytime soon until the depression and credit crunch ends.

  23. 23

yes they are taking it to far!!
jay works really hard and didn't even have to work but he did just for us!!

  24. 24

He should be openly disciplined by at least a letter of disapproval. A strike is a strike, and oh what a slippery slope.

  25. 25

ABSOLUTELY NOT! GO WGA! BUT FIRST, LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT THE DOUCHEBAG CARSON DAILY, HE'S THE FIRST ONE WHO WENT BACK TO WORK… AND JAY LENO SHOULD BE COMPLETELY ASHAMED OF HIMSELF.

    FUCKING DOUCHEBAGS!!!

  26. 26

They should worry about writing good and new shows instead of keeping it to remakes… Leno should be the least of his concerns…
COME ON you got the big bucks now GET CREATIVE!!!!!!

  27. 27

Re: kellytellsit – ashamed of himself for what? supporting himself and his staff and writing his own jokes? you should be ashamed of yourself for being against something like that. his staff needs to eat too. he did nothing wrong.

  28. 28

    Sounds like a fricken union

  29. 29

They need to get a life

  30. 30

The WGA is going way to far. Who cares if Jay Leno presented self-penned monologues during the strike last year. He is a great guy for that reason. Many people in the industry were out of a job last year. His employees should be thankful that they had a job. Jay Leno himself was paying them out of his own pocket! Who would do that these days? I don't know! Jay Leno is a generous guy for doing that during hard times!

  31. 31

I'm a big Leno fan and think he was even better during the strike! I really liked the more informal, down-to-earth visits with his guests. I was sorry the writers came back because although he had to work harder to do it alone, I really enjoyed it. He's rich enough to pay a fine if the guild just wants money, but this country has more than enough problems. They should drop it.

  32. 32

Poor Jay always having to take it on the CHIN?

  33. 33

NOTHING HAS RECOVERED FROM THAT RIDICULOUS STRIKE. HOLLYWOOD, LA, DEAD AND FLOATING.
    .
    FUCKED
    FUCKED
    FUCKED

  34. 34

Bout time. Leno's scabby ways have hurt the WGA for years.

  35. 35

Of course they are! GET over yourselves WGA! That was so 1 minute ago! MOVE ON BOYS n GIRLS!

  36. 36

i think it was honorable what he did to pay them out of his own pocket. the writers guild needs to chill!

  37. 37

Good, Jay Leno is a douche and deserves all the punishment he gets :D
