Schtick, fake, false, etc. He smirked when Dave made the Unibomber comment…

    2. 302

      acting.

    3. 303

I watched last night and i honestly don't know what to make of that.I hope for his sake that it was an act.If not he may need to seek psychiatric treatment.

    4. 304

goddammit!! i cant see the goodness up here in canada!!

    5. 305

The poor guys is obviously in some sort of deranged state. Give him a break. You only wish he was faking because it would make you feel better. He is mentally ill and for people to make fun of him or laugh like they did on letterkook last night was mean. Im sure it can be controlled with drugs…but if you were him…would you trust the drugs???The radio is inside his head…I have friends that have gone over to that side and are homeless and eat out of trashcans…doesnt mean they were not once a producing member of or society. Careful what you say….He might know something you don't!

    6. 306

I think he's an ass. It's all an act. Dave handled that pretty well!

    7. 307

If he's putting on an act for Casey Afleck's documentary then he's doing a really bad job!! Does he seriously think he's as good as Andy Kaufman or Sasha Cohen!! Reality check ! He is no match for David Letterman, he can't make the comebacks like Sasha Cohen. He needs to leave comedy to real comedians.
Also he's doing a diservice to real people who struggle with addiction, this joke has gone on long enough.

      308

      he's a loser

    9. 309

His Tom Ford "JACK" shades looked great did'nt they? Kudos to whomever threw those on him. He is not faking. He is stuggling the artists fight. He is dealing with the been there done that. He doesnt need to do it anymore. Its out of him. He is searching for himself. He is avoiding mediocrity. He is living his life. LEAVE JOAQUIN ALONE!!!!!!!

    10. 310

OMG who is this?! where is Joanquin?!

    11. 311

      he smoking that goooooooooood shit

    12. 312

this is possibly the most awkward interview i have ever seen.

    13. 313

Definitely acting. But but he picked the wrong guy to try out his new weird image on. Letterman is making him look like a bigger ass than he already is.

      314

Mental illness, social awkwardness, pervasive developmental disorder…any of these plus drugs equals moments like these. I do think at some point he realized he wasn't behaving normally and so tried to just go along with the joke and act a part, but initially it seemed to be real. Sometimes people become actors because they don't know how to be themselves. I'm worried that he's now pursuing music in a very isolating way which will gain him only ridicule, and will lead to further isolation and more drugs. He needs help.

    15. 315

It is the Teri Garr syndrome. She used to go on Letterman and pretend to be stupid or spaced out. Worked wonders for her in appearances and some movie roles.

    16. 316

      Acting.

He couldn't stay in character at the end when Letterman explained it was "too bad you couldn't be here tonight."

    17. 317

      WOW!!!!!!!!!! Is he serious!??!
Dave was HILARIOUS & Held his own. Joanquin was extremely rude. why would you go on a talk show, and not talk??????
      Idiot!!

    18. 318

Its in his contract to go on Talk Shows. He probably would be sued if he didnt. Still Letterkook doesnt have to be so rude either. Throwing Barbs at each other. Ridiculous but thats what Daves good at. These audiences are the real joke. They are so nervous and hyped up and would applaud anything. Reminds me of Natural Born killers. I liked it when JP put his gum under the desk. Dave's an idiot. So is Paul.

    19. 319

I think it is a case of him not taking his medication anymore.

      320

MY GOD! This guy used to be (or at least looked ) normal. What's up with him lately?????????????

      321

GREAT JOB DAVID! poor guy to have that weirdo there and still be funny! that's amazing!

    22. 322

I really hope whoever suggested that it was for a mockumentary and Dave was in on it was right. I love Joaquin, and I would hate to think that he was messed up again or just acting like that. This video was horrible. I felt awful. I did love the throw back to Farrah Fawcett though. She was totally zonked. It was hilarious!

    23. 323

i work in the mental health field and i have seen other appreances by him recently. the man is ill!!! he needs professional help!!! possible bipolar break

    24. 324

      hahaha… acting. I hoooope. lol! =D

    25. 325

Yikes I guess the Phoenix's have a Crash and burn mentality . I hope he is messing with us. It would be a shame to loose such a great actor like this

    26. 326

      oh. dear. god.

    27. Low says – reply to this

      327

      If it's real it's fucked up… if he's acting it's fucked up. It's a lose/lose for him.

      328

Anyone who thinks this was an act must have watched the clip on their computer. I saw it on tv with a big clear picture, and trust me it was 100% real. He was on drugs!!!! Is it really a big surprise? Look what happened to his brother.

    29. 329

hes just not down with the whole Hollywood bullshit, so he isn't on drugs, hes just not in the fuckin mood to be in the show, he was probably forced to do it. did u guys realize how annoyed he was. i totally get it. people laugh at him for being into hip hop…like wtf?, Rick Rubin looks just like him, Wikipedia Rick Rubin bitches!

    30. 330

Re: ohhmyoperator – THANK YOU! some one who gets it!

    31. 331

What Happened to Him!!! He WAS very handsome and charming. I hope he comes back to earth soon.

    32. 332

Wow … I hope he gets over this phase soon. It is seriously affecting his incredible reputation in acting. Why does this happen to celebrities so often? Makes one be glad to not be part of that society (hollywood).

    33. 333

      DAVID LETTERMAN IS A GOD!!!!
      DAVID LETTERMAN IS A GOD!!!!!

    34. 334

Are you all idiots? Imagine being 'forced' into plugging and promoting the artistic outlet he feels truly serious about on some media mongrol, sell out, production company bitch like David Letterman….and then instantly ridiculed by the way he looks because he doesn't fit into the stereotypical plasticized version of hollywood we are forced to swallow image. I would have done the exact same thing he did because… HELLO! he is for real…. he's not selling his movie, (the only reason he was asked on the show)… he's letting his art stand for itself. Fuck what you think of him! If you like his work then separate "him publicly" from his work. Every other douche bag actor on shows like letterman are the messed up ones. Rock on Joaquin….Pura Vida, Montezuma C.R. hombre.

    35. 335

Re: crapburguer – you are the only person I read who gets it. I know him and you are right. For some reason (perhaps my expletives) i wasn't published on the blog but this is his way of saying "my art speaks for itself" and the fact that he was instantly ridiculed bc he didn't fit into some plasticized hollywood image we are forced to swallow by a sell out movie production bitch like letterman, he went there and didn't give them what they wanted. The other douche bag actors that go on a show like letterman delivering their lines like apes are the messed up ones. Rock on Joaquin

    36. 336

Re: Wendy Testaburger – you are a retard

    37. 337

Re: Rapid Release – did it ever occur to you that shoving promotional garbage down the throat of millions of americans that expect a certain ape act on letterman is insane…maybe he is saying i don't give a f**k what you think. He was instantly ridiculed by how he looked bc it didn't fit into some plasticized vesion of hollywood so he took it there… F**k you Dave you Sell out pocket lining production company bitch. Think about it. He's not crazy. The American culture is.

    38. 338

Can you tell i've never responded to anything as retarted as a perez hilton blog before? didn't know all my responses would show up in a row. Sorry for the repetitive duplicity, thought my responses would only go to those i chose.

    39. 339

COPY CAT - HE IS A COPY CAT —— His schtick resembles a Zach Galifanikas bit too much to strike me as original. If you are going to fake a downfall or put on an act of losing it.. seems to me it should be more of your own. Look Zach up on youtube.

    40. 340

      yeah he looks wayy off.
      damn what a shamee
      he's pretty damn hot under
all the fuzz on his face.

    41. 341

i dont think joanquin was on drugs! everytime he said something dave, the auidence and that bald headed guy would laugh at him or make jokes about him. If you're not on friendly terms with someone it's not nice to constantly take jabs at them-cough DAVE cough-so of course he's going to get awkward..he's trying to figure out what's so funny..i felt kinda bad for him-but it was still funny! and joanquin was DEF NOT on drugs!

    42. 342

I love him. He's high (or pretending to be high) and just doesn't give a fuck. And I LIKE THE SCRUFF, so poop to the haters. It reminds me of Fat Jim Morrison and like he'd be really crazy in bed.

    43. 343

      Wow fucking wow.

I guess he doesn't remember his brothers untimely death.

      Joaquin, you are an assclown.

    44. 344

Re: jham – Totally agree, having anxiety/panic attacks myself. Unfortunately, people with a/p are more prone to substance abuse. I just hope that's his naturally anxiety or an act, for his sake.

    45. Bucky says – reply to this

      345

      Re: crapburguer

It's possible that he wasn't on drugs, although I doubt it, but he was definitely nervous as hell. He was petrified by nerves. And why would he be so nervous? He's usually a bit nervous on talkshows, but never anywhere close to that bad. The best explanation is that he's got a drug problem, and that caused his nerves to break down big time under the pressure. Drugs can turn a person into a nervous wreck, which is what he was.

    46. 346

God, look how fast so many people jump on the drama train! It's an act; he doesn't have a drug problem. I just thought that interview was hilarious, not at all painful to watch.

    47. 347

Haha, i think…hope he's kidding. Maybe its like an improv thing he's doing. There's a girl at my school who takes acting classes and every week or so her teacher gives her a new roll to act out and sometimes she extremely depressed ACTING or yuppie and bubbly…who knows? Lets hope so though.

    48. 348

I'm standing by my original - "the gum chewing is to cover for the "jaw grinding" of too much coke. I'm guessing high anxiety, which would potentially cause him to drink heavily — then the need to snort in order to be "straight" enough to do Letterman.
      -
Bodhima — Its not his appearance that has folks up in arms - no one cares if he doesn't fit the stereo-type. Its the seemingly drug-induced behavior that has folks talking.
      -
His close friends will certainly know if something is up with him or not ~ and hoping they can talk to him. Such a wonderful actor, I so hope he can find peace in whatever he chooses to do ~ just not alcohol & drugs.

    49. 349

So many people's real sense of wit is dulled from pap and slapstick — or they are so hungry for controversy and scandal (or both) — that they just don't get it.

Andy Kauffman was a comedic genius but he'd fall flat today. Too many spoon fed sitcom junkies.

    50. 350

Wow. Look at all the drama queens on here.
      .
It was a joke. It's funny. Lighten up.

    51. 351

Well whatever it was it was a perfect example of the self indulgent behavior of most celebs. Either he was f'd up, in which case he obviously doesn't care about his fans, or he was "acting" only no one got the joke but him.

He was there purely to satisfy his own need for attention and not to give anything to his fans.

    52. 352

dude it is not a good joke if nobody gets it.

    53. 353

      I just think he's a douche

    54. 354

He is way beyond our intellectual understanding of how to make a fuck-up documentary!

    55. 355

Joaquin dear, you picked the wrong night to get "stoned". You should not only apologize to David Lettermam and his audience but to all of us who had to endure your atrochious behavior. Dude there a place and a time for everything-you missed this one completely. You're a great actor, enjoy the precious gift bestowed on you. Why mess up like this????Get yourself together and stop the self-destructive actions. As for Letterman…someone should have known Joaquin's state of mind and should have stopped him from going on-I understand that this is not always possible, but maybe someone should have tried. Better days Joaquin-Live Life there are no retakes much love

    56. 356

i would but its not available in my country apparently

    57. 357

      endearing!

    58. 358

Wow, idk why he grew out a goatee…and he is acting totally strange…I hope he is ACTING totally strange and is not really on something….

    59. 359

He's a fucking dipstick HAHAHAHA His acting was terrible and now he's a skitso!!! Fucking douchbag!!

    60. 360

What a brat! David Letterman is awesome for the way he handled someone who was acting like such a little child. If he is acting, that was really awkward and unnecessary. . .
