Bad news for ABC!
Their once hot show, Lost, seems to be in the crapper. Big time!
For the fourth week in a row, the show has lost ratings every episode since it's recent premiere.
The last episode pulled in only about 9.8 million viewers, which was a 6% dip from the episode before that.
At its best, the show was pulling in over 20 million viewers weekly.
Guess this means the Lost won't be picked up past its scheduled ending date in 2010.
And, surprisingly, Fox's American Idol is doing rather well in comparison. It brought in 24.3 million viewers Wednesday night.
Time for some new programming!

I'm a HUGE Lost fan and regardless of what the ratings say, this show has a massive on-line, cult-like following and I'm sure this show will stay on until 2010…no matter what the ratings say! This show is AWESOME!!!
know your facts…LOST is still the highest rated show in the demo and if you count DVR replays and the web, it's still one of the most watched shows on tv. Times are changing and not everyone is watching the actual telly anymore. Don't diss a show just because you don't like it.

Perez is an idiot. They've stated clearly that there will be only one more season after this. Anyway, this show is AMAZING! I'm not surprised it lost viewers, since it went a little sci-fi this season… which is what I love!

It's my favorite show next to Dexter. I've been watching every week. Sadly, this new season has me lost, literally. Time travel is cool, but now I'm just confused all the time. My family and friends think I'm nuts because I'm always sh-shing them, cuz I don't want to miss anything. Oy! =/ Oh well I'll keep watching till it's done. There has to be resolution to that craziness.

Lost is a huge commitment, that's why the ratings are down. A lot of people couldn't keep up so they stopped watching. This doesn't mean that the show's going downhill. those of us that still watch it LOVE it.

Most Americans are retards, that's why American Idol, Dancing with the D-List Stars and the Hills are all hits, america wants it's entertainment spoon fed to them, that's why shows such as Lost and Fringe have trouble in the ratings. Ratings does not account for quality in most cases.

Don't be so stupid, Perez. The producers and writers don't care about the ratings. They have a contract to end the show after the sixth season next year. It's already set in stone. At this moment in the show I don't think any casual viewers or people watching for the first time could understand what's going. As a huge fan, season 5 has been great so far and a lot of questions have been answered. So put a sock in it!

Perez, you are the queen and all, but Lost is one of the greatest shows ever written. The creativity and spirituality that the writing for this show emits, is way beyond its time. Perhaps it takes watching Lost from the begininng to what it is now to realize that. But if anything, lets promote a real creative show, and not bash it. With the shit out there, this ones a keeper.
Sucks because it is SO good. Season 3 was kind of crap, which I think lost a lot of viewers, but it has been amazing ever since the announced the end of the show. Best show on television. Ever.

The producers know this, so they don't give a shit about the number of people!! THe only people who are still watching are obsessed with the show! The audience has been whittled down to true fans~ and I'm personally happy about it because the show is turning out to be better than ever!!!

I LOVE Lost, and I love it so much that I wait till they come out on DVD so I can watch them without wait! So I don't really think you've uncovered some secret to why ratings are down. T.V. has changed and no one watches anything if they can get it online/DVR/or DVD, hence why American Idol is so popular…you can't vote for people if you don't watch it at exactly that time. Every season of Lost has been better than the rest, but suffers from "30 Rock" syndrome and people just don't want to keep up with it. If everyone actually watched it they would be fans.

Perez that is so ridiculous. Do you have any idea how many Lost fans DVR so they can fast-forward through the commercials? The show has always planned to end next year…they have been planning the ending since the beginning. They had to REQUEST that Fox let them end the show. Also, this is an intellectual show….so some people just don't want to make the effort to follow it.
I've watched this show since day one…and loved it. What did them in was waiting almost a year to show new episodes. It's gotten so confusing and when you wait a year to show new eps the confusion gets even worse and people loose interest. I'll stick with it to the end, but my enthusiasim for it has definately taken a dive.
Um, there is no going past its current end date PERIOD. It has nothing to do with viewership, the story ends there.

obviously it wont be picked up after it's scheduled ending date in 2010. they only wanted to do six seasons so they could end it on their own terms. so it was never going to be picked up after season 6 because there will be nothing to pick up.
Do your research before typing Perez! Lost has a contract taking it through the end of season 6 which is when it is supposed to end, story-wise. It CAN'T be yanked off the air, regardless of ratings. It's going strong for the people that care! As much as I'm addicted to this site, sometimes your reporting makes me so mad!

I though the same thing about Lost, how dumb is a show about people stranded on an island? But after the 3rd season, I was in a car accident and was home for months with no cable! So my friend brought over the 1st and 2nd seasons…IT WAS AWESOME! I've been hooked ever since! It is impossible to keep up, if you haven't watched from the start, so I'm pretty sure it's all hardcore fans by now. And I'm glad the show will have an end date, because how many shows go past their prime and end up sucking the last season? Lost will go out with all questions answered and it will be worth being a loyal fan! WHOOOO!!!

LOST is simply the most intelligent and the best TV show ever created. If people don't like it, it's simply cos they are dumb enough to not be able to follow it. The producers already stated several times that they didn't create this show for people to have fun - they went on with it to the real fans, who could go on with all the mystery, in other words, they created it to smart people. That's why the dumb and stupid people dont like Lost, see?
Besides, the audience in the USA shouldn't mean a goddamn thing, cos Lost is a huge hit in other countries, also a lot of people download it. ratings for Lost go up by a few million when DVR numbers are added in … and if you looked at all other scripted dramas, you'd see that ratings for every show are way down since the WGA strike.

I love the show, but I watch it online on ABC's website since I don't have a T.V. Given the complexity of the show, I think it might be difficult to gain new viewers. So, I guess the people that are watching have been long time fans or people just watch it online because its more convenient. The show is going to end after two more seasons, as the writers have been saying all along.
