After 67 years in business, the Connecticut Opera has just gone out of business - a direct result of the shiteous economy.

They have not actually gone out of business. They have canceled the remainder of the current season and have not yet made a decision on what to do moving forward. Opera seasons generally run the same as a school year; September to May, so something more substantial will be said, I'm sure, later on this year.

Re: Nemesisesq – If that is the case, they need to re animate. Young ones need to seek out this art.
You have no idea how intense opera can be. It is deep.

      From recession to depression.
And to the opera haters… do you realize what how big of a part it is in the movies you love? You might now know it, but try listening to the back ground music from now on. Or actually listening to some contemporary opera… it is not just people screaming. These are people with talent. People who studied this for years. People who are now out of jobs.
      This is SAD.

This is very sad! The people commenting who have no appreciation for opera seriously need to shut up! As goashtray mentioned, you have no idea how opera has influenced you in terms of pop culture. It is deeply historic, and extremely profound! If you actually took the time to listen to an opera, or read the libretto, you will find that it is amazing!
