Smells Like Teen Spirit Video Director Signs On To Helm Elm Street Reimagining

The Nightmare on Elm Street reboot has finally found itself a director!
The Michael Bay-owned Platinum Dunes production company, the peeps behind the remake, has put their faith in music video director Samuel Bayer. Bayer is responsible for such iconic vids as Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit and Blind Melon's No Rain.
Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form had said in an interview that they sought a director who could visually blend the conscious and the subconscious. Sounds like Bayer's resume fits the bill!
Another challenge to the filmmakers is filling the role of Freddy Krueger himself, since the original's Robert Englund will not be returning.
Sounds like they're on their way to making a worthy reboot!

Although the IDEA of a new nightmare on ELM street is fine, I don't think they can pull it off. Too many comparisons to the original as it was one of a kind. and who says just because a guy can direct a music video, can he direct a full length feature film? we'll see.

i mean the hills have eye remmake was good, the new F the 12th looks great too, i think when it comes to horror movies,

They should get the be girl from the "No Rain" video to be Freddy.
P.S. Elm Street without Robert Englund is already flawed. No one could EVER replace him so I don't know how they're gonna tackle that major problem.

Mr. Englund is the ONLY Freddy Krueger. There is no replacing him and some characters aren't meant to be recast. This is one of them. Freddy was about personality, and when you see Mr. Englund speak, you can see hints of Freddy.
I think its going to be corny. The last few Nightmare on Elm street didnt really live up to the orginal.

Hollywood has a long tradition of remakes. Problem nowadays is that we have DVD's which give older movies a longer shelf life. If this were 1940's and Elm Street had been made in the 1930's, no one would complain. After all, Bogart's "Maltese Falcon" was the THIRD remake of that story!

I think this is great. I also think Johnny Depp should be Freddy… He was the 1st person killed in the first movie. He would be great. This would be right up his alley.
I'm so happy this is being remade. I love the original but was way to young to see it when it was first out so to be able to see it in the cinema will be great!!
Are there truly no original ideas at all in Hollywood? Why must the same movies be remade over and over again. The original was great…leave it alone. Reimagining= too lazy to be creative.

so the new Friday the 13th is out now, the new Halloween is later this year and now another Nightmare, GEESH! It wint be as good though cause Robert IS Freddy, but it might be good, just not the best
