At Least 49 Killed In Deadly Upstate New York Airplane Crash

Continental Airlines Express flight 3407 (operated by Colgen Air) from Newark, NJ, to Buffalo, NY, crashed into a home in Clarence, NY - a suburb of Buffalo - around 10:20 P.M. Eastern on Thursday evening.
According to early reports from the Buffalo News, the dead include 44 passengers, four crew members and a person on the ground.
Crew members had reported mechanical problems as they approached Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
No reason is known at this time as to what caused the horrific crash, which started a huge fire in the home.
Our thoughts go out to the families of all those lost.
So heartbreaking!

i live in buffalo, its a suburb of buffalo, clarence where it happened. its a continental plane that crashed into a house. there are absolutely no reports yet though of how many died. so thats incredibly premature to say. they think the plane could only hold about 45 people at most. number of deaths isnt yet known

yes this is sad, but buffalo is not upstate new york. just because it's above where new york city is doesnt mean its upstate. theres more to the state of new york than just new york city.

Its been confirmed that there were no survivors.
I Live about 10 minutes from the airport and crash site. It really is devastating. All people on board the flight died in the crash. =[ My prayers go out to their families.

I live about 5 minutes from where this happened. My thought and prayers go out to all affected. I remember hearing the sirens and the sounds but I didn't completely realize what was going on until I turned on the news. Also. We are Western New York. Not upstate

Buffalo is upstate duh! In fact it the area is where a dairy farm who distributes milk called "upstate" farms is located. It is the western part of upstate new york.

I live in East Amherst, about 4 miles from the crash site…I felt the ground shake tonight, I thought it was my imagination but it was probably the impact. Those poor people…my heart goes out to their families. I go to Univ at Buffalo, hope no one I know is affected by this. So sad…

Yes I am from the state and have relatives in that area. Upstate Farms Milk comes from a farm right near Buffalo. If you knew geography you would see Buffalo is uptate, NYC is downstate. You can be in the western part of the upper part of a state, up and west are not exclusive of each other. Just like NYC is eastern ny state and downstate.
And BTW this is horrible, I know people who live there and they are devastated.

im from buffalo, living in nyc now, but grew up 10 minutes from there- such a sad thing to happen to not only the lives of those affected, but also a city that is struggling to be more than a sad story town…

"Continental Airlines Express" does not exist. It's either Continental Airlines, Continental Express or Continental Connection. This particular flight was a Continental CONNECTION flight operated by Colgan Air (not Colgen).
The plane was a Dash 8 propeller plane which carries 74 passengers but was only carrying 44 passengers and 4 crew members. One person on the ground was reportedly killed.
I live a few minutes away from Newark Liberty Airport. It's so sad when these tragedies happen. One of the passengers on board was a lady named Beverly Eckerd, who was a widow of a 9/11 victim. She was on her way to Buffalo to celebrate her dead husband's b-day. I bet this would have never crossed her mind. May she rest in peace…..

This is terrible.
This is so sad. Unfortunatley, this is what's going to happen when the airlines begin cutting back costs in order to stay afloat in this crappy economic climate. The planes are just not going to function properly because they're not being maintained well.
the crew did NOT report any problems, they just disappeared from radar. the weather downstate was awful yesterday- We had high winds, trees going down killing people and triboro and throgs neck bridge closed for awhile-tractor trailers flipped from the winds-did any of you in Buffalo have these winds? heard it as foggy and cold. Just heard that a widow from 9/11 was on the plane going to buffalo-her husband's hometown to visit his family and to present a scholarship at a school in his name-all the deaths are awful, but that really SUCKS

It was very windy here in NY yesterday (tri state area) winds were about 29-40mph…not positive about upstate though, and Buffalo is wayyyy up there…heartbreaking, RIP.

Buffalo and surrounding counties are a close net family and i cannot believe it happened near me. 50people are dead..just updated a 1/2hour ago…an off duty crew member that wasnt counted as a passenger or crew member and then a person on the ground. Buffalo is a great community and we are going to pull through this. I just flew in there monday from NYC… it is tragic. Please pray for all those involved. A women who lost her husband on 9/11 was on that plane headed towards buffalo to hand out a scholarship in her husbands honor. Its horriffic and i cannot believe it happened here. Pray and pray hard for everyone. There is a news conference now so i am going to get going.

is so sad that this happened and that's why i always have said that those ppl in the "Hudson" flight that those ppl should be grateful that ALL survived!!! they r so stupid to think that $5,000 and first class flight is not enough… just be glad & eternally THANKFUL TO UR GOD or whoeever u believe in & the airline too for hiring such good pilot that u SURVIVED unlike those poor ppl that just lost their lives!!!
this is so sad i live in the City of Buffalo and work downtown, so many of the people in my office building either live in that general neighborhood or know someone who does some even know victims. My heart goes out to the families of the victims and I just thank God that it was not any worse. Everyone here such a somber feeling today becuse it was so close.

i always use continental and i always take off from newark….. great.
What's crazy is there was a plane in Las Vegas yesterday that was taking off to NY and had to come back down on ground because it started to smoke.. and now a plane crashed on it's way to NY? Crazy!
