Starbucks has announced that they are going to be launching a new line of instant coffee called Via.

Pee-a sounds like a better name!

and, this is a billion dollar industry around the world. in the UK instant coffee is more prominent. if starbucks can make bad instant coffee taste better, than hellz to the yeah. regardless, a french press black coffee is the best ever.

AdAge: Starbucks declined to comment on the launch, which is said to be a long-term pet project of CEO Howard Schultz and as such will get a significant marketing push. The instant product has been many years in the making and is designed to mimic the taste of store-bought Starbucks — the point the company is expected to make in its marketing for the brand.

I so agree. This truly could be the death knell for Starbucks. Who does their R&D? I can't believe any Starbucks customer would be clamouring for an Instant Coffee. They sold us on the ambience of going into a Coffee Shop to experience freshly brewed, higher end coffees and now they turn to Instant??
This should be a huge assist to Independent Coffee Houses as well as Peet's and Caribou.

You guys leave really stupid comments. As an emp[loyee of the Java Giant, I can prsonally say that the instant coffee is a pet project of Howie's. It's been in the works for the past 20 years, and it's an instant coffee for people on the go that may not have the time to swing by starbucks or for when they forget to brew coffee. Some of you guys are morons. Do a little research.
