Boycott Facebook! Here's Why

We're so glad we've never uploaded any of our stuff onto Facebook!

You Facebook users are SCREWED.

Did you know that everything you've loaded up into your profile (personal pictures, etc.) belongs to Facebook, even after you've closed your account?

That's what it says in the Terms of Service you agreed to when you opened your account, apparently.

The Consumerist recently uncovered this disturbing info and it's causing quite a stir.

So, what does this mean?

Basically, Facebook can do whatever the hell they want with YOUR STUFF.

And, they can do so WITHOUT your permission.

For example, they can license your personal pictures out to companies, make a shizzle of money and don't have to give you a dime.

Sounds really, really shitty and sooo shady!!!!!

    This is super sketchy. Makes me feel really uncomfortable. MySpace is exactly the same. I just read their TOS, and first deleted all the pictures I had posted, then deleted my MySpace. I don't really use MySpace anyway, so I'm not bummed out about that. I don't think I could ever delete my facebook, though!!! I'm addicted :( . I guess I'll have to go through all of my facebook pics I've posted and make sure they're not too bad or anything….! :\

    I did not accept their new terms and contract. For those who say no one reads those, maybe you should. Did you read the one for this site? Any comments we use can be used without our consent, and without being attributed to us. The media whore has just found a new way to get away with finding the wit he lacks.

    It is no ones fault but your own.

    Oh, and he is probably supporting the boycott because it is doing better than his site. And as for the "most clicks" try not linking everything you have. Why not let us just see the, "if you are easily offended." That click counts. A click to comment counts… you have no real clue how many actual visitors come to your site do you?

    Re: livvs – That's the issue. The TOS contradict themselves. In one part it says "Except for User Content …" portion but in another it says:

    "…You hereby grant Facebook an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense) to (a) use, copy, publish, stream, store, retain, publicly perform or display, transmit, scan, reformat, modify, edit, frame, translate, excerpt, adapt, create derivative works and distribute (through multiple tiers) **ANY USER CONTENT***…"

    They also REMOVED this section:

    ""You may remove your User Content from the Site at any time. If you choose to remove your User Content, the license granted above will automatically expire, however you acknowledge that the Company may retain archived copies of your User Content"

    Hate to say it, but if you're boycotting Facebook for that reason, you shouldn't be on MySpace either. Their Terms of Service say the exact same thing with the exception that after you delete your account, they don't have that license anymore. I don't really care though. It's not a big deal to me.

It's a good thing that I never really went as far as to create a life in Facebook or MySpace the way other people have. I know people that can only be contacted through Facebook. I would be pretty effed up if I saw my picture anywhere else other than my camera or personal albums. Fucking people should be killed and destroyed for their evil ways.

    After being on Facebook for 2 months or so, I have realized it has become annoying as far as the apps & goofy shit. I will say though that I have reconnected with lots of people in an easy way.
