Facebook Still Sucks

On Monday, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg responded to everyone freaking out about the social networking site's its effed-up new policy - "what you upload onto Facebook belongs to Facebook."

Zuckerberg responded in a really shitty, weak way. You can read his entire statement here.

Why was it shitty?

It's crap because he doesn't explain why they have to 'own' and keep YOUR personal photos even after you've shut down your profile.

Zuckerberg says you can 'trust' him. Don't worry, you supposedly have his 'word' that they wouldn't do anything you wouldn't want them to do:

In reality, we wouldn't share your information in a way you wouldn't want. The trust you place in us as a safe place to share information is the most important part of what makes Facebook work. Our goal is to build great products and to communicate clearly to help people share more information in this trusted environment.

When push comes to shove, or if there's money to be made, do you really think a corporation would have your best interest at heart?

MySpace is so much more respectful of y'all. Check out this MySpace vs. Facebook terms of service analysis.

At least MySpace won't try and take ownership of YOUR PERSONAL stuff!

Dear Perez, you are a really beautiful person and no matter how famous and branded you become you still have the needs and desires of your fans at heart. facebook is and always has been a really sad and vunerable place to lay your life out to the world, children should be taught about the downside to sites like facebook and it fills me with joy that you too take the time out to share your feelings with us and warn of us the dangerous place the facebook world can be…..Now, on a lighter note why the f*** are you being so kind to that skank Lily Allen….ffs….she's on your side of the pond and she needs reminding just how shiteous her and her work really is…..Love and Light from the UK

WHAT KIND OF EFFED UP PEOPLE PUT PRIVATE STUFF ON THE WEB ANYHOW???!!!!

      IDIOTS!

    3. 103

It's really funny to hear you wine about "your" stuff when most of it was borrowed/stolen from other sites. Boo fucking hoo Pervez.

    4. 104

Gosh, Perez, all you do is put your personal opinion everywhere and excpect to be right! FACEBOOK RULES. I don't care if they own my pictures.. when you upload your pictures anyone can take them anyway. MYSPACE IS SHIT.

    5. 105

Mark Zuckerberg is a hack. He's 24 years old and has no idea what he's doing. Think about what YOU were doing at 24, and then imagine that person in charge of a billion dollar ordeal. Ridiculous. He already tried once and failed to dig into our personal information as users of Facebook (remember his little Beacon project???). He has never been interested in creating a safe place on the internet where your privacy is a concern of his. Instead, he looks for ways to invade people's privacy and usurp their personal information. It's insane that no one saw this coming. What better way to get a hold of people's information than to change your terms of service. No one reads that crap. He will come under fire for this too, only this time I pray he loses Facebook customers. He deserves to fail. He's an underhanded weasel of a man.

    6. 106

PEREZ…YOUR STUPID ASS ISN'T THAT POWERFUL WHERE YOU CAN STOP PEOPLE FROM GOING ON FACEBOOK!SHUT UP

    7. 107

How "personal" and "private" is it if you're posting it on the internet, honestly?

I see a couple of problems with this. (and there may be a few more.) There may be a legal challenge of some validity, considering Facebook has changed its terms midstream. People did not sign up under these terms. Facebook makes it sound like any content added prior to the change cannot be retrieved even though a client takes issue with these new terms. Photos and material provided before the change of terms of service could ultimately be found in court, if challenged, to be off limits to Facebook. Also, was there proper advance notification to customers giving them sufficient time to withdraw any material on their personal page that they did not want to become another's permanent property under these sudden terms? Irate members should let their web actions do the talking. There are plenty of social networking sites who operate with more respect for a member's privacy and with more regard to mutual integrity. This kind of unilateral proclamation out of the blue smacks of a possibly worrisome information grab, even if that may not be Facebook's rationale, and they may want to consider the possible loss of en masse business and the fact that some may feel tricked or betrayed.

So Zuckerberg is actually saying, 'Trust Me?!?'
      In THIS climate?
I notice that HE put Facebook's new terms in writing.
Not a good way to conduct a business, IMHO.
It's the principle of the thing.

From the general tone on multiple sites, methinks Facebook is going to come face to freaking face (and be smacked hard) with the unspoken and expected netizen code of honor. Netizens are v-e-r-r-r-y fickle about that sort of thing. He'll drop hits and plummet like the stock market. Mark my words. Maybe he doesn't care. Perhaps he's been made an offer he can't refuse.

    11. 111

I found this one out a while ago. One of my pictures was used in an ad for Scholarships on their sidebar and when I emailed them about it they just sent me back a bunch of fine print.

    12. 112

Ya fucking right! Facebook sold pics of my friend to some news station down in the states. She was mildly drunk and posing rather whor-ish and the headline above her head was " out of control binge drinking teenagers" fuck facebook

    13. 113

Im glad this story came out. I was JUST about to open up a Facebook account. Not anymore. I'll stick with Myspace.

YOU CAN'T TRUST FACEBOOK AT ALL!!! THEY DELETED MY PROFILE FOR NO REASON…I HAD BEEN A MEMBER SINCE 2004. IT WAS LIKE I NEVER EXISTED ON THERE. AFTER A MONTH OF ME EMAILING THEM FINALLY I COULD LOG IN AGAIN. BUT THEY NEVER EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED. this is just one of the many fucked up things about facebook.

    15. 115

I reckon they will charge to delete your account and buy back from Facebook what you owned in the first place.

      116

MySpace sucks and you know it. They are obviously paying you to say that.

    17. 117

myspace is for little kids and child molesters, and facebook is for college people. which explains exactly why your stance is what it is. also, if you actually take the time to understand zuckerberg's letter, he does explain why they had to use overly formal words in the new TOS. he's saying they can't control what other people on Facebook do with your information, messages, etc. once you post it. Just like email.
      You fuckin retard.

    18. 118

myspace sucks dick. just like SOMEONE ELSE WE ALL KNOW….

    19. 119

      seriously who cares?
this is so stupid…if everyone is so concerned about this then why didnt you read the term and conditions?!?

i know i know…no one actually reads them buuuuut dont bitch because all of those terms are in plain view of the site and theyve never hidden them from us

ive been on for 3 years and i havent had a stalker from them having my info, not anymore junk mail then i did before…so seriously give it up. go back to myspace if its such a big deal…not the end of the word

how about we talk about something a little bit more important? facebook is def not one of them.

    20. 120

      They just changed it…

      Terms of Use UpdateClose
A couple of weeks ago, we posted an update to our Terms of Use that we hoped would clarify some parts of it for our users. Over the past couple of days, we have received a lot of questions and comments about these updated terms and what they mean for people and their information. Because of the feedback we received, we have decided to return to our previous Terms of Use while we resolve the issues that people have raised. For more information, visit the Facebook Blog.

    21. 121

facebook just recently posted that they are reverting back to their original terms of use, mainly because too many people caused an uproar. so raise your voices and maybe it'll make a difference!!!! yeah, it might not last for long, but it works for now! :)

    22. 122

      They reversed this.

    23. 123

This makes me laugh at all the sluts who upload pics of them naked with pasties on or in neon fishnets spread eagle like it's some Adult Friend Finder profile.

    24. 124

      WTFFFF

    25. 125

I opened up an account with Facebook, and only uploaded one pic. I deleted the account the same day because it's so fk'n aggravating and hard to figure out. I can do anything I want on Myspace, and it's well organized. Facebook is very limited and full of sh*t! I might check Twitter out next… (don't get offended, it's just an opinion, geeeshhhh!)

    26. 126

How can you trust this guy when he STOLE THE IDEA FROM FACEBOOK from ConnectU. The thief just lost $65m in a lawsuit to them.

    27. 127

Facebook is 100% wrong for doing this, it's pretty much selling our information and privacy. I was told that they can take our pictures too!!!! That is just going waaaay to far. It's sick and something could really go wrong with all of this… Facebook is going DOWN!

    28. 128

      Well this sucks..
Ima myspace person all day but i do have a facebook..
I always knew there was sumthin about facebook i hated..
I hope they lose all their users and shut down..

    29. 129

wft?! thats crap! that's the kinda thing you put in bod letters at the top!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      some1 should sue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    31. 131

Aww give him a break- his point is that he can rip off anybody's material and sell it to Getty Images etc. Pure Copyright Theft ala Limewire etc.. No friggin' Integrity.

    32. 132

    33. 133
