Life's A Bitch

| Filed under: CanadialandMusic MinuteSad Sad

Back in 2005, CBS held a reality show competition titled Rock Star: INXS. They had 15 contestants compete to become the new lead singer of the Aussie rock band INXS.

Canadian rocker Jason Dean Bennison, better known as J.D. Fortune, ended up winning the competition.

Well, the singer is now out of the band and….homeless!!!!!

Fortune spoke with Entertainment Tonight Canada yesterday about his current situation. He tells the TV show that he is back in Canada now and living out of his truck after being kicked out of INXS more than a year ago once they finished their international tour.

He said, "I was in an airport in Hong Kong and literally got handshakes of `thank you very much.' I found myself really alone because I had travelled with these guys for 23 months. Some of the audiences we played for were upwards of 80,000 people."

Part of his downward spiral seems to be linked to his "heavy use of cocaine" while he was in the band. He says, "It got as bad as it needed to be for me to numb out the fact that this was going to come to a screeching halt."

So the once loser turned rock band lead singer and back to current loser now claims to be off the drugs and working hard on releasing his new solo album, The Death of a Motivational Speaker, which should be released this year.

Wonder what happened to the money he made while touring? Did it all go to the drugs?

Crack is whack y'all!

He did it to himself. only himself to blame.
Addiction and loss of life savings are a deadly pair.

  2. 2

A coke habit will do it every time. He looks fucking high.

  3. 3

Its too bad really. I liked JD in INXS.

drugs kill…. and they can kill your career too!

  4. 4

Do you have any other sources on this? Most INXS/JD fans who have seen the interview agree that it's not conclusive proof that he's out for good- the segment was heavily edited, and INXS themselves have yet to comment.

  5. 5

so the competition was fake? they hired him only to kick him out a year later? what a bunch of bitches!

What's sad about this? Dumbfuck pissed his money away on coke.

  7. 7

I worked a show with the band back in 2006 in Newfoundland and at that time the band was talking about kicking him out!! His drug episodes had lead to many problems for the band while on tour, and they were just waiting for his contract to run out then. He was a nice guy when he was sober, not so great when he was high.

  8. 8

What money? INXS wouldn't have made him part of the band, they had him on a weekly salary.

  9. 9

Also, haven't there been something like hundreds of examples of people getting a big break and then blowing it because of drugs by now? how stupid was this guy?

  10. 10

YET…..The band's website still features JD Fortune as the Lead Singer - hmmm

  11. 11

I'd still do him! He was and still is hot as hell!! God, I forgot how much of a thing I used to have for him. Thanks for re-uping my JD fantasy today P!

  12. 12

that is a shame … hope he recovers and gets back on track

  13. 13

The hottest singer of ALL time! I love him!

  14. 14

This has not been confirmed. A lot of press surrounding JD's upcoming solo release, so could be manufactured "drama". Truth be told, his music is awesome - check him out at www.myspace.com/jdfortune448. Great music for a cokehead.

  15. 15

Sad. Hes really talented, and very cute. I hope he stays sober.

This man is quite a talent. I really hope he gets clean. He lives rock'n'roll. The scene, lifestyle, music, talent and .. drugs. Deadly cocktail of excess. Thus the name of the band.. "True" to a fault.. Hope he beats this.

  18. 18

i dont think that picture is JD… and its not confirmed.. i think its hype for his new album

  19. 19

Thank all the religious figures. He was crap.

  20. 20

    Don't do drugs kids!
    It'll mess up your life

  21. 21

No one feels sorry for this creep. F him

  22. 22

Good. I didn't like him on the show and I don't like him still.

  23. 23

That was a fun show and he was a great talent. I hope he is over the drugs.

  24. 24

Re: JamieC – you said it!!! YUM

  25. 25

While not an angel, this guy's whip smart, talented, and really scrappy. Go take a listen to his new music on myspace. It's amazing. He'll be more than fine. We got your back, bro.

  26. 26

that's such a downer of a story. if he hadn't been doing cocaine maybe he'd have been more successful.

  27. Darby says – reply to this

That sucks but thats what you get for doing drugs. What is this the 80's??

  28. 28

According to the interview, the money he made was sunk into recording and releasing his new album. A huge chunk of change, cause the music biz is not cheap, bitches! I've been there, and wouldn't go back again. That guys got one tough set of balls.

I just checked out INXS website, he is still listed as a band member… ouch. I actually thought he was a great front man. There must have been more too it than we know.

  30. 30

This is a fitting end to a shit idea - INXS have totally fucked up their own legacy…hahahahahah!

  31. 31

What an Idiot… can't feel sorry for him really, he flushed … sorry snorted it all away.

  32. 32

Not one person mentioned the beautiful and tragic Michael Hutchence, whom this a-hole replaced.

So I will. RIP Michael Hutchence.

  33. 33

I know JD, I've met him many times, he's from my home town. While he is extremely nice, he also does way too much drugs. I got that news right from his mouth. I feel bad that he's back to living in his truck, but he really has no one to blame but himself. People in New Glasgow were extremely supportive of him, not to mention his thousands of fans all over the world. he could have done something great and he squandered his opportunity.

  34. 34

Marty Casey should have won that contest anyways. And if the picture above is really J.D., wow, he looks so different with hair like that.

  35. 35

JD Fortune can live in my bed.

  36. 36

dont judge until you've heard the whole story. michael hutchence had a drug problem, but inxs and especially andrew farris stuck by him, they should stand by jd as well. i hope he realizes how many great musicians have died because of drugs, and doesnt let that happen to him. he is a natural beautiful talent.

  37. 37

He's from Halifax and was homeless just before going on the show!

  38. 38

Could it have been the music? Just kidding. Why do so many people squander their opportunity when there are other deserving talents out there who never get a chance?

  39. 39

It's hard to feel badly when he's the author of his own misfortune.

He derved to be let go–he was a coke abuser and a liability.

    Lesson learnt, let's hope.

  40. 40

that sucks, i loved watching the competition and he was definitely the best choice. hopefully he can get his shit together.

  41. 41

I have met "JD Fortune" before…he is the biggest asshole in the world. When he won Rock Star it got to his head and when he came to Asia to tour with INXS,he went around completely big headed and never said hi to anyone or shook anyone's hand when they offered. My friends and I knew from his effed up behavior he was gonna end up homeless, penniless, and without a band or contract one day and we were right!! After 3 years…Karma is a b*tch and it hit him bad.Serves him right.

    He's a nice guy….

  43. Dt425 says – reply to this

Re: ZekeAaron84 – I agree he does have a bit of an attitude…but he really is a nice guy….I guessing he's feeling pretty humbled right about now.

  44. 44

Guess he likes living in that car, it's not his first time, you'd think he would have learned. Pathetic.

  45. 45

i'm from JD's hometown in nova scotia and thats bull shit hahah he has a home here.

  46. 46

Loser. Why wouldn't he buy a home somewhere while he was still making $$. What happened to it all. He's a dick. He sang the national anthem before a Leaf game and during the soundcheck he's swearing into the mike and being an ass. There's kids in the building you moron.

  47. 47

    That's too bad,i like Jd.

  48. Laxer says – reply to this

Open a few more buttons on those jeans and the offers will fly your way!

  49. 49

whatever. no clue who he is, but he's hot! i'd still do him!

  50. 50

you all are so judgemental about drug addictions. being in that situation is so scary and difficult. it's a vicious cycle and it's extremely hard to break free. we all make poor choices at one time or another. i think it's amazing how self righteous the commenters on this blog act…..as if they've never made a poor decision or as if they've never had a moment of self doubt. people turn to drugs to feel better/escape. ridiculing and critiquing them is not the way to help. i read your comments and i reminds me that our culture is so narrow minded and insecure. if you have true compassion, love, wisdom and tolerance…you know how to be helpful and supportive and critical in a positive way. expand your emotions, learning capacities, and minds people.

  51. 51

what 1realist said about drugs is probably the wisest take on drug use I have read in a long time. You are def right, even I judge drug users as weakly willed. Time to become more passionate - damn the drugs, not the drug user.

    I was happy for J.D.
If he's back living out of his car after being paid for all that work touring, perhaps the boy could have been doing too many lines. He should be set for a while.
Perhaps it was something else, but regardless,
A thank-you very much at the airport was more than most would get.
INXS are professional musicians, not enablers or babysitters.

  53. 53

It's a gimmick!! Sure, he probably doesn't have a lot of money left (Coke is quite an expensive habit!!), but c'mon people….he does not have to be homeless. I'm sure some of the tramps he slept with would take him in. And, if you catch recent interviews, the story is changing ever so slightly!! He's an arse to work with and the boys of INXS just probably had enough. Oh, and one more thing….he has been trying to pitch his solo album to record labels in Canada and no one wants him!! So, it looks like he's come up with this gimmick to try and get the fans to push for a record deal!! It's just too bad he's using the kindness of his fans to get what he wants….and then he'll do the same thing again….won't even want to shake their hand when he meets them. Tsk Tsk
