GM (General Motors) has just announced that they will be cutting a massive 47,000 jobs.

Sigh.

      Yet again proving that giving bailout money to corporations is a terrible idea. Here in Quebec, GM had a company in a city called Boisbriand. Every time they said that they were going to go bankrupt, the province stepped in with money to keep them afloat. At the end of the day, they STILL went bankrupt, costing thousands their jobs. People and governments should NEVER take pity on failing corporations. Help them out with tax breaks or something but do NOT give them handouts.

      Ok, you need to tell the entire story… first off, it's 47,000 jobs GLOBALLY. Second, 20k of those jobs had already been announced and they are targeting the plants in other countries, not the U.S.

      All the way around, it's still awful. We're heading into some very tough times ahead… you ain't seen nothing yet.

      If by "just announced" you mean yesterday, then you're correct. They also announced that they need billions more to stay out of bankruptcy.

      ahh, the bailout at work.. it's destined to fail seeing as the money they're giving these assholes doesn't even exist. it's infuriating to watch this country going to hell because big business continues to fuck everybody sideways and constantly gets away with it.

      hm…Did GM managers already waive ALL of their private jet airplanes who are paid for by GM company (or the TAX PAYERS via the billions government aid GM has asked for) already ???

      Brazil just recieved 2 billion from GM to invest in building up their production of small vehicles. There is also plains for GM to invest billions in Korea. Yet the US can give bail out to this company, and have no say so to where the money goes.. We are dying in Detroit already.

      Screw 'em. They are run by the unions, who gave $70 million to BO's campaign. You wanted him, now go ask for another $39 billion from his bale-out package. Remember this, GM. Your cars are ugly, the wheels were designed by a crack adled thug, no resale value, and they all look the same. Remember people, when you buy GM, a huge hunk of the price of a new car goes to some asshole who is retired and has full medical, dental and optical.

      Obama won't be able to fix anything with his pork spending bill (he also has no idea what he is doing by his own admission). everyone knows and history has shown, that throwing good money after bad does not work. things will get worse and people will soon realize they have been bamboozled. regrettably, the other half of the country who did not vote for the guy, will have to suffer along as well…

      The US automakers do make competitive vehicles, unfortunately they are held to higher manufacturing standards and practices than foreign companies. People need to stop supporting the Japanese and Korean economies and buy American. Buying American means that you support your fellow citizens. Buying foreign means you are condeming a US auto employee to poverty and unemployent.

      The bailout money is to assist in the re-structure of the Big 3, unfortunately they were not given the appropriate funds to begin with…i.e. the gov't gave them a bandaid when they actually needed surgery.

      Perhaps if you were one of the people that worked in the factories in Detroit you would support the US economy a little more instead of saying "let em die".

      Re: CellFish – You're an A** CellFish My fiance' has busted his ass for GM for 25yrs and the only time he EVER took a days off was for back surgery DUE TO BUSTING HIS ASS AT THE PLANT. So if you can hate all you want on GM AND all the asshole higher ups in the company that don't do anything but walk around with their fingers up there asses. But there's ALOT of hard working people loosing there jobs after being totally faithful. You should consider all the people it's hurting before you go ranting about shit you know NOTHING ABOUT!!       Ita amazes me that people write posts on here without fact checking. Unions are NOT to blame. If every company treated it's workers fairly, and supplied them with a living wage and decent benefits…there wouldn't be a need for unions. But that isn't the case, is it? Also a very small (less than 10 %)percentage of the price of a new car are retiree related. My Dad worked for GM for 37 years and averaged 50 hours a week. Doesn't he(and others) deserve some healthcare? And it isn't FULL benefits like some believe either. Do your research people. It only makes you look like an ass.

      that's crazy, didn't they just ask for another 21 billion or something? the government has to stop bailing out these fat cow corporations. they're the ones that got themselves into this mess. the government should be focusing on the people living in poverty, people without health insurance, education, crime, etc., not stupid big-wig corporations that don't know how to budget ot stop using the corporate jets or stop paying their ceo 2 million dollars a year.

      Re: CellFish – the plant you speak of was NOT owned by GM but had contracts with GM. Big difference. Contracts run their course and are not eternal. Most parts suppliers have contracts with multiple car makers.
