I thought Kate's speech was better, but good for him. I'm happy he won.

    2. 102

Considering he's a writer, it was surprisingly not eloquent. Good movie though.

    3. 103

      i cried. twice.

      Re: LuvleeRita

Yeah and I get you. Stupid c.u.n.t.

    5. 105

I AGREE! I AGREE! Great Speech!

    6. 106

I'm gonna say that "Domo Arrigato Mr. Roboto" was the best acceptance speech.

    7. 107

Bravo & Congrats Dustin Lance Black!

What an Excellent Message to get out there Globally to ALL Young Gay & Lesbian Persons Of Value!!

      Kudos Dustin!!

    8. 108

Yeah, this was a great Oscar speech, but I thought Sean Penn's was the best (Kate Winslet a close second).

    9. 109

I'm so sick of people using award shows as a soap box for their political agenda. I think EVERYONE should have the same right but I don't appreciate it being jammed down my throat everytime I turn the tv on. I watch movies to be entertained NOT be lectured. That is why I don't spend my money on movies like MILK and FROST/NIXON.

    10. 110

Well OF COURSE God loves you!
It says in the Bible that God loves ALL of his children!!!! DUH!!!!!
      Just sayin!
Even if your GAY, it dosnt mean that God dosn't love you!
He loves YOU, but not your SIN…
Yes, it offends people to say that being gay is a sin, but its true. Its "unatural"

It was a great speach. I was proud and happy to see that he was so young to have won an oscar thats amazing. What a great story and what a great way to get equal rights out there than at the oscars!! Good job!

Oh and he was cute too.

    13. 113

      :D

      he is so adorable!

      (tear)

    14. 114

      Re: cheeky77
Yeah, keep on watching "entertaining" movies where you don't have to think about political issues, that's just fine. Shitty pointless movies are made for people like you!

    15. 115

What an inspirational speech for the entire GLBTQ community. Equal rights are coming.

      Re: hard_candy
I don't hate gay people. Gay people are fine. I am smart enough to realize people do not chose to be gay they are born that way. I have no gay friends but i accept that you are what you are.
I stand by my opinion to shut it. Not only on gay issues, but political religion etc. Lets say there is somebody who hates the democrats and spouts off at the oscars. Well guess what, somebody in that room is a democrat and will take offence.
Lets say i am against the roman catholic church, well guess what, somebody there supports them.
If every single presenter started using their acceptance speech to spout off on whatever issue they wanted to discuss then imagine what the oscars would be like?
If i want to watch people blab on about various religious, sex, or political issues…i watch the news.
The oscars is supposed to be a fan fluff night. Stick to movies, thanking people who helped you get to where you are, thats it. For the rest? Shut your pie hole.

    17. 117

Maybe it was only touching to gays because I was embarrassed for him.

    18. 118

Maybe homosexuality would be more accepted if gay people were more accepting, loving, and non-judgmental themselves. Homosexuals are some of the most hate-filled people I have ever come across, which shocks me because they have felt hate themselves I'm sure, yet they continue to spread it like an evil disease. I am dead serious here - stop judging and thinking you're better than others and maybe you'll be more accepted in society.

    19. 119

      that was excellent!

    20. 120

      Re: Shark

      AMEN!!
you took the words right out of my mouth !!

    21. 121

Gosh I had to listen again…so touching as I have struggled with a gay child for years before he accepted himself. He is such a wonderful son, that speech gave us hope.

    22. 122

This speech gave me hope, as I have struggled with a gay child for years. I have told hime pretty much what Mr. Black said in his speech. God loves us all no matter what. Gay people are the best! Thank you Mr. Black.

    23. 123

Harvey Milk showing "courage" by being a gay politician in the Gay mecca that is castro street is about as brave as a black man being mayor of Compton. Give me a break. This site is reminding me of how Ellen changed Ellen to make the show more about being gay than anything else.

    24. 124

      eh…his speech was pretty gay…hahahaha

    25. 125

very touching speech. it definitely brought a tear to my eye. i look forward to the day of equality that he so beautifully speaks of.

      also, congratulations to him!

    26. 126

i really loved his speech, it was so real. And the speech from Sean Penn was also love :) ..

    27. 127

      Re: juliB39
      …at least they can spell

      fuck you, you homophobe

    28. 128

WHO CARES IF PEOPLE ARE GAY? seriously, i mean why is it such a big deal? if you love someone it shouldn't matter, that's your business. i don't mind gay people at all, everyone is the same.
      DEAL WITH IT BITCHES =]

I think this was one of the BEST acceptance speeches I have heard in ANY Oscar ceremony, not just last night's.

    33. 133

That really was a beautiful speech. I cried.

    34. 134

      beautiful
      beautiful
      beautiful.
in a world where people think they are so above everyone else
this is what we should listen to at the awards
thank god brad & ang didnt win….
      * * * GO TEAM ANISTON * * *

    35. 135

I thought this speech was so beautiful, I cried! I haven't seen Milk, but I'm so excited for him to have won an Oscar. A bunch of my friends have seen the movie, and they said it was awesome, so way to go Mr. Black! Whooooooo!!!!!!

    36. 136

Re: Shark – respect to your opinion on the whole soap box issue.. using things like award shows as a platform etc. and your preference towards escapism as opposed to realism..

i understand, you have no problem towards people with a different sexual preference than your own.. i get it, you're not trying to gay bash..

but honestly shark, before writing off this kids speech as just some political stance and *preference* take a couple of things into consideration.. and this isn't just going out to you, it's for anyone else that holds an opinion that concurs somewhat with yours..

he's gay.. and as you very well stated, you're not stupid! you know people are born gay.. soo imagine being born oh say i don't know.. ghey.. a woman.. african american.. and having your rights taken away from you.. sure some of those others are obviously more extreme than the others.. but never the less fall into the same category.. people having to fight to get obtain rights that you were most likely born with.. maybe had you been born in an era where you'd have to fight for the right to marry.. vote.. anything! you'd potentially understand why this kid MIGHT have taken this opportunity to speak up.. but you didn't have to fight.. so it's not your fault you don't really identify with it to have compassion for his cause.. but it is your fault to choose to be ignorant as fawk and choose fluff over life..

    37. 137

Re: Shark – oh and a side note.. it isn't just an opinion on a political issue.. it's something that is directly affecting his life..

if we as americans don't take a stance here.. what else can be taken away from us? and i'm not talking about the lgbt community.. just as americans in general..

Church and state.. two different things.. read the constitution.. common fawking sense..

    38. 138

Everyone deserves love. I don't care what you do in the privacy of your bedroom. Most straight people are waaaaaaay freakier in bedroom anyways!!
We need to leave bigotry and discrimination where it belongs, in the past with George W. Bush!

      Re: hah_idiots
wow, you somewhat miss my point. I did not say his speech was a political one. I was making a point that different actors…lets say..for example…marlon brando…used the night of an oscar ceremony to make a statement about indians…i have seen different actors who hated bush…use accepting their awards about politics..i have seen actors use a award acceptance to use it as a soapbox about all kinds of things.

My point is that it is a movie night. You make a movie. you win an award. You make a speech. Could you imagine what would happen if every single winner got up on stage and each took a postion to spout off about what they felt. Imagine that it can go both ways, how would you feel if somebody got up and said "i do not support equal rights for gays" you would be upset.

My point is that the oscars is a night to leave your bias, your discriminatory thoughts, your political beliefs, your religion beliefs ….at …the door. If everyone got off making speeches…guess what..we would not have this argument as there would be no awards. Nobody wants to listen to preaching at this event. If they did? they would tune out…which by the way after the speech in question is what i did.

    42. 142

i would like to thank his mom for giving him life and nurturing his talent…

    43. 143

      Absolutely perfect

    44. 144

Re: hah_idiots – "its for escapism from lifes troubles. Get off the stage, i do not want to hear political speeches on the president, who you fuck, what rights you want."

unfortunately who i fuck and what rights i want do fall in to the political ring.. aka prop 8

"I stand by my opinion to shut it. Not only on gay issues, but political religion etc."

gay issues and politics go hand in hand.. considering our issues, besides every day discrimination and hate crimes, are political..

"wow, you somewhat miss my point. I did not say his speech was a political one"

i know you didn't, i did.. i didn't miss your point, completely understood it.. and i respect it.. more escapism less opinions on personal self righteous ish..

"respect to your opinion on the whole soap box issue.. using things like award shows as a platform etc. and your preference towards escapism as opposed to realism.."

that was your point right? heh.. but i think it's safe to say you completely missed mine.. point, that is.

    45. 145

I was really moved by his speech. I did an entire project about Harvey Milk and I've spoken to his nephew Stuart Milk on multiple occasions, and I really cannot express in words the adoration I have for Harvey. This was the best Acceptance Speech I have ever heard. It was beautiful and heartfelt and I am so glad that he gave hope to the gay community and was able to be a strong light for those who still felt in the dark. What a wonderful, and magical person he is :)

    46. 146

this was a great speech, he's so young to have won an oscar for screenwriting.

    47. 147

this was beautiful, i'm so happy he won.

sean was amazing too, ! :D

    48. 148

wow that was moving he is soo right….and i'm not even lesbian :D

    49. 149

*wipes away tears* that really is touching, I pray that his wishes come true and there are equal rights for every one no matter their race, sexuality or whatever…were all human after all.. and we all deserve to love and be loved in whatever way we chose! XOXO

    50. 150

Honey you don't need to be accepted by a bunch of fatasses. Trust me your hot, you can get any dick you want, now go fetch em boy

    51. 151

    52. 152

I am so proud to be from Canada, where we allow gay marriage. For the people who are reading this that are homophobic….do Perez a favour and find another blog….Why are you visiting his site if you can't handle queer content.

    53. 153

Preach on dude–this bigotry shit's gotta stop!

    54. 154
