Barenaked Ladies Split With Their Druggie Singer
Singer and guitarist for the Barenaked Ladies, Steven Page, has split from the rest of the band "by mutual agreement." The announcement appeared on their website last night.
It had been a rocky year for the band, with Steven busted for drug possession last July, escaping more severe consequences with a deal to stay out of trouble. And in late August, bandmate Ed Robertson miraculously escaped with his life when the float plane he was piloting went down in a forest. He and 3 passengers all survived.
During their 20 years together, the Canadian band has recorded 11 albums, achieved top singles, and received multiple Juno awards.
The band, however, plans to continue to tour and record without Page, who is said to have solo and theatrical projects in the works.
And maybe rehab too!
In an email, drummer Tyler Steven said, "The band is happy to be moving forward and can't wait to get into the studio to record new material" and on the website Page wrote, "These guys are my brothers. We've grown up together over the past 20 years. I love them and wish them all the best in the future."
Which is all very well and diplomatic, but we can't help but feel like the band may have tired of Page's druggie ways or that maybe Page quit them!

I like this band a lot, and I'm sorry to hear Steven is leaving. They have a couple songs that will be around for a long time. I heard a band do 'Brian Wilson' recently, have to say I really enjoyed it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I have been a BNL fan since the mid 90's. I am CRUSHED!! I always wanted to see them live and seriously just yesterday was thinking that I needed to keep an eye out for a tour so i could go. Now I don't want to. It would not be the same.

OH NO! Page totally had the pipes in this group. Gotta admit though BNL is now a band to see live. The last few albums SUCKED. But the live shows are always hilarious and awesome. I've never seen a group with more hilarious improv.
We've got these chains hanging around our necks people wanna strangle us with 'em before we take our first breath.
BNL won't be the same without the frontman. Watch it go down the drain.

Whatever the reason, BNL will never be the same. It's like Journey without Steve Perry….Van Halen without David Lee Roth….good, but just not quite right.

Ed Robertson sang half the songs anyway, so they should be fine without Paige. Been a fan since they started out, and they are still huge in Canada, and many parts of the world. If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it!!!!
And you should all watch Ed's show "Ed's up". It's hillarious.

thats sad, his voice is the essence of BNL, they were the first band i ever saw perform live in 1996,i got their autograph and everything highlight of my 12 years at the time.

BNL has been my favorite band for the past 11 years. I was very upset when I checked their website last night and saw this. Ed and the other guys are awesome, but it just isn't the same.
Its not about the drugs, its about his new Yoko Ono. He's even brought the trashy chick up on stage — with her unfortunate voice. Think with your higher head, Steven!

It's terrible news, there were a great band with a lot of great entertainment potential…and anyone who is a disbeliever, go and get the album ROCK SPECTACLE. They are one of the most UNDER RATED bands of the last 20 years, and even though they only had one #1 song in the US, they had several hits…some of ya'll on here talk about sh*t you don't know about…maybe you should fact check yourselves.
This is bad news. The two frontmen were the best part of the band. They really played off each other and gave the BNL its humor (not to mention their great harmonies as a duo)
