Even with the cancelling of Phelps' contract, Bong-Gate managed to drag the cereal hierarchs' reputation down from 9th place all the way to 83rd place, according to company reputation index Vanno.
Bong-Gate is having a more lasting effect on Kellogg's reputation than all that peanut butter dramz!!!

Maybe it's not Michael Phelps' pot photo. Maybe it's simply thousands of people switching from boxed cereal to much cheaper (and much healthier) good old-fashioned oatmeal, because of the recession.

Do american's realize this is cereal. And by boycotting a cereal it shows how much you play into advertising and celebrities, which only makes them have more celebrities and low nutritional cereal. Honestly, you shouldn't have bought the cereal in the first place. Its like buying a box of condoms with holes in them, but have a picture of Ron Jeremy on the outside. The cereal nor the condoms are good for you, but thank goodness their is a celeb on the box.

They would be ranking much higher now if they'd had the balls to stand by Phelps and renew his contract! I know that when I'm in the cereal aisle at the supermarket, I haven't forgotten their shabby treatment of Phelps, and Post cereals taste just as good as Kelloggs, thus I choose accordingly.

it is ridiculous in this day and age that a company would cancel this kids contract over the picture. We have had TWO presidents who have admitted drug use. A local radio station (98 Rock, Baltimore) had a "Boycott Kellogg" event> They got port-o-potties and had people show up, grab a box of Kellogg's and take a dump on it for their cancellation of Phelps endorsements. Per chance it is the boycott that has caused Kelloggs decline. After all, pot heads enjoy cereal!

The reason why Michael smoking pot is a MUCH BIGGER deal, than say people dying from peanut butter is because people are immune to it, it's just a stat and no one cares (as sad as that may sound….). On the other hand, Michael smoking is like God smoking it's these dichotomical images that make utterly no sense to us, that they create such a strikingly contrasting and clashing image, that it evokes a strong response from people. Michael means a lot to people, than just a swimmer. He is HOPE of a greater something out there. He is the reason. There are no words to describe, for a lot of people. What is upsetting is that it could've been prevented, the damage to his image that is. It was careless and reckless on his part, and it chipped away at the tremendous honor that people bestow on him…

I think it is important to look at what Vanno does. Users submit stories and other users vote as to whether or not those stories help/hurt a company's reputation. They take these stories, votes and comments and created a Bayesian formula that shows the effect on reputation. Needless to say it is not Vanno that determines which is the lesser of the two evils, its the users, and they have spoken. They explain it on their site if anybody bothered to look.
