New Homes For Two Slumdog Child Actors!

slumkidshouses.jpg

Hooray!

Rubina Ali and Azhar Ismail, two 'real life' slum kids who played the 'younger' version of Slumdog Millionaire's central characters, have been gifted with new family homes by the Indian government.

A government official said, "These two children have brought laurels to the country, and we have been told that they live in slums, which cannot even be classified as housing."

On Tuesday, we mentioned that the movies' producers were setting up professionally managed trusts for the child actors so they wouldn't have to live a life of squalor any more.

We're glad that the movie has brought good fortune to little Rubina and Azhar!

Yay! I was waiting for that. Those three kids are the cutest friggin things EVER, I just wanted to hug them throughout the whole movie.

The Indian government is a media whore.

    18. 18

Did the government really have to wait until the movie won an Oscar? These kids–and others– could've been helped months ago.

      Jes' sayin'.

    19. 19

Perhaps the Indian government will give Octo-chocha lips-mom a home too.

Re: LaDiva is the only true Diva on PH – Hey! What's happening Diva? How are things?

    24. 24

They don't get anything until after they have finished school . . . .

    25. 25

Aw, they're so cute … I'm happy for them, whatever the reason they got new houses.

      Re: perezisaspicfag
Just cause someone doesn't speak flueant english that is cause to call them names?
Being an asshole is a better reason to call someone a name . . . and you my friend are an ass-hole
BTW the kids do speak English

    28. 28

Where's Angelina Jolie when you really need her?

Oh yeah, probably attached to Brad Pitt's herpetic dick.

    29. 29

      Re: perezisaspicfag

They're not "sand niggurs" you douche. "Sand Niggurs" are not from India, they are from the Middle East. If you're going to be a racist, at least be a slightly more intelligent racist.

    30. 30

Yeah, too bad about those other 1 billion or so poor fuckers…

    31. 31

Yay For them.. now they just need to find good homes for the rest of the kids.

    32. 32

What they actually get are one bedroom apartments and they have families of more than nine people. Paid for by the Indian government.
Its ridiculous…im sure slumdog made enough at the box office to give them decent homes???

    33. 33

this is wonderful news! i just wish they wouldn't stop here.
and remember that others need help as well.
not just because these two starred in the movie, what about the others?
      but i'm happy for them!

    34. 34

Re: perezisaspicfag – You can't even spell your racial slur. Another display of ignorance!

    35. 35

      thank God!

    36. 36

Thank god! THey were so cool on the red carpet.

    37. 37

Of course the Indian government is buying THESE children houses. They're trying to save face. Meanwhile, millions across the country will continue to live in poverty, victims of this caste-based society which will never really be challenged. It's all about image for the Indian government.

    38. 38

they look nice standing there on the flying red carpet

    39. 39

Mazel tov to those adorable kids. Glad things are looking up for those 2 cuties!

    40. 40

I think it's impossible to provide every single child with a home. Why do these people continue to have children over and over and over and over and over, etc. STOP HAVING CHILDREN!!! If you live in a slum why would you have children to begin with?? If you cannot provide for yourself, why would you bring another being into the picture. Once again just like it is in this country, please uncle same, provide for me and my dad and my mom and my 10 brothers and sisters and my grandparents and the family down the street that consists of 15 people. Gimme a fucken break…..
I feel bad for the children b/c they don't ask to be in these situation, but they grow up to be adults just like their uneducated, needy, selfish parents - why help someone that can't help themself……

    41. 41

      Re: RobPnMeShouldB – *uncle sam……not uncle same…..

    42. 42

The Indian government virtually ignores the plight of the MILLIONS living in slums - now because these kids were in a movie, then ok they can have something? They already have trusts in their name & get to attend the Oscars - so are already far more advantaged than other slum dwellers.

Happy for the kids, but just saying - there are still millions more living in squalor and the government needs to address the whole issue.

    43. 43

      Re: RobPnMeShouldB

You are so ignorant. These people may be poor but have the same dreams of family and happiness than the rest of us. Their life may be hard but its the joy of children, family and togetherness that bring their lives happiness.

If you had ever been anywhere remotely NEAR the poor of India, Africa, Asia (anywhere!) - you would understand the difference. Pretty sure you've never left your own backyard though - your comments speak for themselves.

    44. 44

      Great for those two kids.
Their government notices them now-now that they can exploit them and ride that money train awhile.
It makes me sick. I'd really be impressed if 'All' the proceeds from the flick went to feed, clothe, house, give medical care & educate as many of those children as possible & that government should also be educated about the care of it's own children. Not just two!
BUT yet Again… WE are becoming homeless and people here are starving and have no jobs, living out of their cars in walmart parking lots (yes I have seen this all over our city and we are one of the top 3 largest cities in the US) but yet the movie has made it's millions here in the US from us not India. So again we bail out others before our own children. Yes life is awful for most people when there are no jobs, and you lose everything you have worked for your whole life in less then a year's time & your own government agency's say too bad you don't qualify for help, too bad you never needed it before & sorry for your luck now.

    45. 45

Here's the rant… stop reading here if you've had enough

Wanna help a m*f*er, keep it all in the US and feed our own.

no more helping outside, fend for yourselves and we will do the same.
What is it we don't have here that we need …Oil - we have that, food- we have that , what???
the import /export is not needed for anything other then the fat cats to get fatter. why do we need to send it out just to get it back-taxes bullshit!
Everything made in other countries is crap and if we want crap we can make our own ! G*D knows we already have enough of it now & look grow some f**nkin Corn! ok I think youv'e been sujected to enough for one day.

    46. 46

that is the sweetest thing i've heard so far.

    47. 47

      YAY! I'm happy for them!

    48. 48

Oh wow what about the other kid? He got screwed over.

    49. 49

Wow…so NOW the Indian government decides to give them proper housing? now that they've made a movie. I wonder how long this is going to last.

    50. 50
