Those 6 Sam's stores are all in southern Ontario. Canada already had warehouse stores that were thriving when Sam's tried to corner a share of the market. Looks like even Walmart is overextended, and is cutting back.

Re: sz – I was about to say the same, I'm from Vancouver and I have never seen a Sam's Club in my life. I don't think I've ever even seen a Walmart IN Vancouver. They definitely stick to the 'burbs.

while they are closing the 6 sam's clubs, they are opening 26 superstores this year…oh boy!
they are also in talks with lowe's home inprovement warehouse to take over the sam's club locations - converting them to lhiw, natch.
so it's all good in the hood.

are there any us retailers rolling out new locations this year? i'm thinking maybe gas stations, not sure tho.

I work for Walmart. My boss treats me like shit. But that's my own fault. I totally put myself in the position to have to work here. Call it a sting in the ass if you will.
Walmart only really wants to hire expendable white/black trash that can carry out simple ,But easy to use (small) task to preform.
I unfortunately work in the wireless department where you have a better class of white/black trash working. But they still act the same in the end. sigh

We got Costco - who needs Sam's Club

The reason why Wal-mart is closing their 6 Sam's Club stores is because Costco was beating their ass! They couldn't compete. So, instead…Wal-mart will be opening 26 more Supercenters in 2009, and hiring 5,000 people. Canada does not need anymore Big box retailers. City Councils around Canada should stop this. It's killing the downtowns!

good for walmart/sams. sorry about the workers but walmart sucks. they abuse their employees and treat them like shit. i hope all of the heirs loose everything that they have. let them go to work for kmart or something and let them see just how the real world is. make them have to stand in line at a charity hospiital to hope they get seen before they fall out on the floor. let them worry about ooooh do we eat or do we buy the rx drugs or insulin that we need to survive.
