The Simpsons Will Keep On Going - To Become Longest Running Show EVER On Television!

Great news for all the fans of The Simpsons - and there's a lot of you out there!

The animated sitcom will soon become the longest running show on TV.

Fox has just ordered two more seasons of the show, making it the longest-running in primetime history.

The network has picked up an extra 44 episodes, increasing the total number of Simpson cartoons to a total of 493.

The previous record holder for the longest-running series was Gunsmoke, which was on the air for 20 years.

We have a feeling the cast will yet again be asking for another raise. Or they'll just try and convert everyone to Scientology!

Did anyone else besides me hear the dis Homer gave to Octomom in a commercial clip? It shows Homer and he's saying something like, "See? We knew octuplets before it was cute." Or something really similiar to that. Then they go the doctor and he opens his white jacket to show Apu's newborn 8 babies in little inside pockets!!! LOVE MATT G FOR THINKING OF THAT ONE!!! They should totally do an episode to poke a little fun at the octomom!!!! Hell! They already have the 8 babies on the show!!

Well this may be true in the USA, Corronation Street has been airing in the UK and Canada for a lot longer then this. I believe the first episode aired in December of 1960, so it has been on air for almost 49 years. at an average 5 episodes a week that is 12740 episodes.

that doesnt' make any sense… soaps have been on for years and years longer. I'm pretty sure guiding light has been on TV since the early 50s… and the tonight show since the 50s.

Can't really say that it will be the LONGEST running show on TV, EVER . . . Guiding Light has been on for 57 years (72 years including radio), As the World Turns on for 53 years, and other soaps 40+ years. Need to be more specific.

As others have mentioned, this article isn't completely true, or at least you need to specify ”primetime” shows, not all of TV in general. GUIDING LIGHT holds the distinction of being the longest-running drama in broadcasting with a combined total of 72 years in existence.

Like so many often do, the daytime soap operas were overlooked. Guiding Light, As the World Turns, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, All My Children, One Life to Live, Young & Restless, and The Bold & the Beautiful are over 20 years old. And former soaps no longer on the air like Another World, Search for Tomorrow, The Edge of Night, and Love of Life lasted far longer than 20 years.

THE GUIDING LIGHT 9today known as GUIDING LIGHT) is THE LONGEST-RUNNING TV SHOW IN HISTORY…71 years ago it premiered on radio, where it ran until 1959, and premiered on TV, where it remains today, in 1951. The SIMPSONS is the longest-running PRIMETIME series. Get it right or hire someone to do some fact-checking. Your propaganda gets a little old sometimes, as do your cruel namecalling of celebs, but when you cannot get a fact correct because you do not know the proper wording, you fail your fans.
