Could iTunes Pass Change The Digital Music Industry??

applelogo__opt.jpg

Apple is planning on introducing a new feature to the iTunes music store - the iTunes Season Pass!

iTunes Pass will work similarly to the Season Pass feature in the television section of iTunes. Consumers will pay a flat price for a specific artist of their choosing and new releases, videos and other extras from the artist will be delivered to consumers over a designated period of time.

Depeche Mode will be the first group to use the iTunes Pass feature, "offering two exclusive singles to fans who sign up for the $19 bundle, which includes a pre-order for the album. The new album, Sounds of the Universe, will automatically appear in fans' iTunes library when it comes out on April 21, as will a number of other new music and video titles."

Sounds promising!

The new iTunes feature was created in hopes to improve full digital album sales vs. the more popular, yet less profitable digital single sales.

Other than Depeche Mode, two or three unnamed artists are planning in participating in the iTunes Pass program.

Wonder who!

Who would U like to see as an iTunes Pass artist or group???

Madonna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      thats k0ol!!!

I would hate to be locked in with an artist. Especially because there are usually only 1 or 2 good songs on an album. It's much cheaper to pick and choose what you want for 99 cents each.

Your attempt to post something that didn't refer to disney fails.

This sounds stupid. Bands do not put out enough new and good music for me to pay in advance for it.

Eh. Depeche had a deal with ITunes for their last album as well, where you had to buy the album on ITunes for presale tickets, and I hated it. ITunes sucks.

In the case of Depeche, I'll buy the deluxe DVD edition of the album, but for most other artists, I'll stick with Rhapsody. Flat rate fee for unlimited music is the way to go.

Re: BBBoricua loves Angels & Demons… – BBB they have my old artist on there. Plus, they have movie soundtracks! Hey, we have a troll on the post you left me a message. We are wasting people's time with our comments. The troll only called out you and mel! They made the most stupid comment I've ever seen. I like to ignore them but then the bitch in me
comes out and oh well. Oh, MIAR where can I get a nice baby like yours?
This troll is a little horse of all things. OMG! What has this site come to.
I will get back with you on the A&D thing. That is what the little horse was referring to us for. Maybe they should try reading for a change!!!

Re: sheba08 – OMG, I just went back to see! We waste his/her time while reading a gossip blog!? How is that possible!? That is really sad. Is he/she getting a school degree on this site? Why is he/she reading posts not addressed to him/her and then replies? Don't pay any attention, sheba. Things like that just make me laugh.

    26. 26

No, Madonna hasn't been relevant since the 80's. Why does every homo have a raging hard-on for Madge. She suckssssssssss.

      GENIOUS!!!!!

    37. 37

I have thought about why the music industry hasn't done something like this for awhile. Like release one single at a time with a non single track with it (BSide) instead of a traditional whole album. that way the artists album doesn;t lose momentum like it does with the current system and then you aren;t stuck buying the whole album unless you want to. And then AFTER each single and BSide is released they could release the whole bundle at a discounted price

    47. 47

You idiot! This is not promising at all! I'd rather download song by song… not all of the artists have 100% pretty decent cd, why would I wanna fill my ipod with idiotic songs!!!

    48. 48

"created in hopes to improve full digital album sales vs. the more popular, yet less profitable digital single sales."

Seriously? Make better music. At 35 I remember how disappointing it was to spend half my allowance on an album containing 2 great tracks and 10 crappy ones. I like the technological advances which allow me to preview and pick and choose what I'm buying.

    49. 49

Madonna for sure, but I do have most of her stuff. Except the only albums I've bought from her are the recent ones. Ray of Light to Hard Candy. I would also probably purchase one for White Stripes or Radiohead or NIN or whatever, consistent music and videos. I usually hate Pop music, Madge is the only pop act I care about these days.

    50. 50

I would get this only if you could, in turn, sell your pass if the band you chose became really popular and their music more in demand. What iTunes Pass is doing is basically setting a value of a band's output over a certain period of time. In a sense, it's a bit like the stock market. If users could trade their Pass on a market, that would add a pretty awesome new level of interactivity.

Old ass technology. Microsoft has had an unlimited pass feature with the Zune Marketplace for a year.

SLOW TO THE MARKET YET AGAIN, APPLE, BUT SHEEP WILL GENERATE YOUR REVNUE. PATHETIC.
