The reason Katie Holmes looks so bad is because Tom is bissexual. And like many bissexual or in the closet gays, Tom likes his woman to resemble a man as much as possible: therefore the short haircut (she lost the freshness of youth she had with her long tresses before she met him) and the emaciated and androgynous look.
