According to reports, 20th Century Fox is considering remaking a new Fantastic Four.
With the success of The Dark Knight and Watchmen, it seems they want to take the film franchise in a darker, more "adult" direction.
Here's the best part, though!
Revamping Fantastic Four means they'd also have a new cast. So, thankfully, that means no more Jessica Alba ruining the flick (and her shiteous blonde hair)!
Sources say they'll even be replacing the previous director, Tim Story, in search of someone new. And similar to the way Iron Man integrated current events, like the war in Afghanistan, they're hoping the new director will do something similar. Maybe an economy in crisis?

Yeah, they need to hold off on this for awhile. I know superheroes are hot right now, but, as much as I enjoyed the most recent Hulk movie, it came too soon after the Ang Lee one (which was horrible). These movies are far too recent. Give us some time to forget they exist, before they're re-made.
It's a shame that they'll get a new cast, because Michael Chiklis was pretty decent in them. Ioan Gruffud too.

FF was Marvel's flagship title. The first movie was mediocre at best, a total disservice to a comic book that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby devoted most of their attention to throughout the '60s and early '70s. If they do a reboot, I agree that they need to get rid of Story, who was terrible at staging action scenes, and hire a more action oriented director. And yes, the miscasting of Alba was terrible, but I also think Ian Griffud (or whatever his name is) lacked the gravitas to play Reed Richards. Chris Evans was perfect as the Torch and Chiklis was great as the Thing, so definitely keep them if possible.

Susan Storm is a brilliant, intelligent character that is highly educated. She is the equal to Reed Richards. Jessica Alba is not smart enough, those are the facts. She cannot "act" smart because she is not. The character just cannot translate with her. Hopefully this is considered the second time around.
First of all, it is way to early to be calling Watchmen a success. It has been playing less than a week…it may prove to have very short legs. Fantastic Four is what it is…there is no need to change direction and cast at this point. It would alienate the fans who do like them. This article is a total pile.

Do you guys even read the comics? I mean, I'm sure a couple of you have, and I don't expect everyone to know every THING there is to know, but the original cast wasn't bad. Sorry if you think Jessica was a bitch, but Susan, especially in the Marvel Knights arc WAS a bitch, as much as she was patiently assertive. Ioan was pretty spot on for the look of Mr. Fantastic, and he's Welsh. he learned the script phonetically, to drop his real accent to even do the part, you can suck my taint if you think that's easy to do, because it's not. Chris did a fantastic job as the torch, Julian was an incredible Dr. Doom, and Michael really, wasn't that bad as a Thing considering the voice and the SIZE they had to go for. It's a hell of a lot better than using CG, which they do for everything these days. The story was slow moving, but with 5 main characters each going through their own evolution of character, it's hard to write a script that can handle that. People expect way too much from Hollywood, thinking they can pinch out anything bigger, better, faster. BLow me, seriously. I've been a Marvel girl for years, and I own both movies, and two different editions of the first one. If you're a diehard fan, you look past the cheesy parts. even the comics had cheese in them.

Several times in the comics, throughout different arcs, it is stated clearly Reed is "the most brilliant mind of the 21st century." One of his best friends is TOny stark, and he says something equally to that effect in the Civil War Arc about Reed.

Yes, you are right. However, I always kind of regarded her as an equal to Reed in the way that they were well matched. And, not just smart, but complex and older with some interpersonal wisdom that Reed lacked (in that way, I felt that they were equalized). Nevertheless, what you are saying is true.
Re: tinkbell13 – In that aspect, yes, it's very true. Multiple characters say that she is the cornerstone of the F4 and are what keeps the team together, which is true. I believe she's the strongest of the F4, because of how well rounded she is as a character, hitting the intellectual, emotional and strength in power points. She also helps balance Reed out. In Civil war, she leaves him at one point and he falls apart without her.
Not every super hero comic holds up to a darker portrayal, some are just kitschy and I think Fantastic 4 would look so stupid if done up ala Dark Knight and Watchmen. Watchmen to begin with is very very dark and it's success is in staying relatively true to it's theme and characters. Again Fantastic 4 would look like a stupid wannabe if it went down this route. The first movie SUCKED, the second was slightly better and at least watchable. I dunno maybe the Iron Man suggestion is ok enough make it more current, but why remake a movie who's last enstallment came out less than three years ago????
