Trump Owes A Big Rent Check

Donald Trump has been declared in arrears for a missed 2008 rent check due in June for the site of his planned catering hall-restaurant at Jones Beach in New York. The state parks agency sent a letter to the Trump telling him to pony up $207,307 within the next 20 days for his 40 year lease on the property with biz partner Steve Carl.
Sounds more like Trump is being a pain the rear!
Trump, however, says he owes them zilch because he's currently in the middle of a lawsuit against the state for damages due to construction delays. Trump said, "We started construction, they stopped us illegally. The parks commissioner [Carol Ash] is totally incompetent. She now stupidly sent out a notice for rent, and she's the one who told us we can't proceed."
While Trump plans to contest the request in court, a spokesbitch for the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation said that the lease includes rent even before construction.
So it doesn't look good for the Don. Simone Freeman, co-chair of the Nassau County Bar Association's Municipal Law Committee, said, "Given the way the lease agreement is written, it doesn't appear to provide for Trump not to pay the rent."
It's all beginning to go downhill, and fast!

Trump just recently bought the country club I belong to so I have a feeling the guy is doing just fine financially. It's really kind of disgusting how you always make mountains out of mole hills Mario. How do you have the energy to hate so much?
Obviously I haven't seen the documents, but I'm with the Donald on this one. With a lease you are supposed to get exclusive possession of the land allowing enjoyment of the land by the lessee. It only seems fair to me that if your landlord (i.e. the Commissioner) is not allowing you to use the land for the purposes for which it was leased, they shouldn't then still be able to claim rent. It doesn't REALLY make any difference with respect to the rent payments though, because after the proceedings are over, either party can just claim that rent as damages.

I think this guy is getting broke. He's been getting into a lot of money spat. And i just found out a lot of the new buildings with his name on it are not his. He's not as rich as he once was.

he might be right on this one. I live on long island and the fight between the 2 is in the paper all the time. 'the donald' does not get approval for what he wants to do most of the time and it has become a long and tired job. It is a real shame and eyesore. against the donald, he is being an egotistical jerk again and some of the things they turned down were 1) a full basement that will have offices and supplies about 150 ft from the water-feels the ocean will not flood the donald and 2) the donalds name across the ENTIRE building, of course, in a upper class way.
The basement issue is holding up the construction and might be the breaking point
