American Idol Judges Have New Power
American Idol is in for some big changes!
On Tuesday, Simon Cowell announced that the show had decided to do "something slightly different."
What is that????
On Wednesday night, the judges revealed that they now have the power to veto the public's votes, addressing "a problem that’s been around actually, since Season 1."
Now the judges have a bigger role than simply offering their inane commentary, they can actually save a contestant voted off by the public.
The new rule allows the judges to save one person from elimination once during the season, up until the final five are announced. Their decision must be unanimous, and then two singers will be booted off the show the next week. So even if the judges save someone for seven days, he or she could still go home the very next week if the viewers continue to dislike him or her.
They tried the alteration on for size on the French version of AI, and it worked, so now they're bringing it to the States.
We can't wait to see what Paula Abdrool is going to do with this one.

Mario, did you READ it? all 4 have to agree to it. and last night it made it very uncomfortable for the 2 they let go, they resang their songs and then Ryan asked the judges if they wanted to use it and they said no. OF COURSE it is NO, it is the first week. and they can not use it after they are down to 5 people, and they used Chris Daughtry as an example, but he was eliminated as #4 and would not been able to have been saved. They will use it mid season. and the next week 2 have to go, so the same person will probably so anyway. No big deal. Chris daughtry is on the air. don't hear hicks or the other 2 ahead of daughtry, can't even remember their names and the money is probably GONE

I don't like the new rule. The most interesting part of the show is when someone unexpected gets voted off. I liked the show last year, but this season already blows. Very lame contestants.

Re: Norma D – it is probably not going to work here either-not when they don't limit the # of votes a person can make-these small town singers have the whole town set up voting for them-if you live in LA or anyplace with out community, you will not have a large calling pool and that can do you in-look at the year with hicks and daughtry -hicks had that entire town calling and calling

This rule would not have saved Daughtry; he was voted off after the final five. And, he is the reason it has been instituted, along w/ Jennifer Hudson. Would rather they boot Kara…. no one has ever, EVER made Paula look so good or desirable.
