Anna Nicole Smith's Former Lawyer Charged With Conspiracy To Furnish Drugs!

More than two years since the fatal overdose of Anna Nicole Smith, the first criminal charges have been filed in the death of the former Playmate! And, none other than her longtime lawyer/companion, Howard K. Stern, is one of three being charged.
Stern, who has repeatedly denied wrongdoing in the past, was charged on Thursday with conspiring to furnish drugs to Smith prior to her death, Los Angeles prosecutors say.
In addition to Howard K., two doctors were also charged in the Smith case, Sandeep Kapoor and Khristine Eroshevich, who allegedly prescribed medication unlawfully to Smith, according to the L.A. County District Attorney's Office.
The charges allege that the trio conspired to furnish drugs to Smith between June 5, 2004, and Jan. 26, 2007.
Kapoor and Eroshevich were also charged with one count each of obtaining a prescription for opiates by "fraud, deceit or misrepresentation." They were also charged with a single count of obtaining a prescription for opiates by giving a false name or address.
The three were also charged with a buttload of other crap.

If an addict overdoses its typically considered the addicts fault. I know countless families who've lost loved ones to overdose and it is not typical to prosecute the dealer. As such we shouldn't prosecute an MD for writing a prescription. Medicine has saved more lives than the ones who've abused it. There are warnings attached to every prescription and it is time people take personal responsibility. When one chooses to use a multitude of Dr.s for prescription abuse its the fault of the user not the fault of the MD or the boyfriend who picks it up–under an alias…um….famous people use alias'. I gave the POPO the address and number of the man who sold my brother the heroin that killed him. But they aren't interested. This charade is about politics, money and leading the public to believe that life is fair and justice always served, that we don't have to take responsibility for the liability of life or our personal choices. Her family may have been negligent in witnessing her use (for alleged seizures, sleeplessness, anxiety, depression etc.), but she still didn't have to take what the Washington Post states as "a pharmacopeia of at least nine drugs (found) in her body". Its a sad, horrible situation. But taking out anger will only breed more anger. Let it go.
Wow, insane, it has been how long since she died now???? And they are finally charging people with her death?? I am surprised that they even charged any of them. She was ultimately repsonsible for her own drug use but these people really did not help her I guesse. They, especially Howard, were continually handing her prescriptions for tons of drugs. They all knew that she was very addicted to pills and continued to give her whatever she wanted. The part that really trips me out is that they knew how down and depressed she was after her son died and that of all times is when they should have been watching her closely. I know that i would have been really worried about her intake during that time. But it seemed like they were giving her more and more when she should have been getting less. I am curiouse to see how it turns out for all of them epseically the Dr.'s that were giving her the prescriptions. Howard was always aiding her in getting her whatever she wanted but the Dr.'s def. should have known better. She was so depressed that I can't understand how they didn't take that into consideration???
I do agree with #47 but at the same time I do think that it is such common sense on the parts of the people closest to her that she should have been being watched more closely than what she was. I know that she was a long time user and she should have known more or less what was an acceptable level for her own use but she was on the edge of such heavy depression that her better judgment just wasn't where it should have been. She had already seriuosly overdosed once in the past and ended up in a coma. She knew what the possibilities were if she over did it. I just think that she needed that help during that time in her life. Howard had to have known that her overdosing was a very real possibility and he should have been monitoring her much closer. I don't know maybe he was, as much as he thought neccessary but she shouldn't have had full access to all of her shit during that time because she wasn't able to keep herself from over indulging to escape from the depression she was going thru.
I am sure that she just wanted to be as numb as possible but she had a brand new baby girl to look after and that is the most tragic part of all. Her little girl will never know her mom because of drugs and she will always live with the legacy that her mom died from OD'ing. Just sux that it had to end that way. I don't really hold other people "responsible" per say, it was her choice to USE but it just would have been so much better if everyone around her wasn't just sitting by and letting her have full access to whatever she wanted.
Yea, let's not blame the person TAKING the drugs eh? Typical to not hold someone accountable for their own actions. Go Obamanation. BLEH! She was a fucking adult that was on drugs well before Howard came into her life.

and this is a surprise? what is a surprise is that it took 2 years to arrest anyone. the doctors said they wrote the prescriptions in different names to protect her. I can understand that. I can also understand someone being on a large # of prescriptions if they have a # of things wrong with them, but she didn't and was on all pain and pyschiatric medication. I never heard what the 2 drs. who are getting arrested, what their specialization is. pain management drs should be the ones writing pain meds. and pyschiatrists for the others, GPs should only write, at best, mimimal meds for these problems since they are experts in the areas. If these drs are GPs and wrote many prescrips, at best, should lose there licenses, if not be charged with manslaughter. these LA drs. get away with too much with celebrities and money(liz taylor, michael Jackson)
I guess everybody knew that, sooner or later, this was going to happen. Finally Anna Nicole and Daniel may rest in peace.
