Boston Kids Are Misguided, Blame Rihanna For Her Attack

wenn52587872__opt1.jpg

According to a new survey of Boston teens, it's Rihanna's fault that Chris Brown beat her!

Come again?!

Survey says that of 200 Boston kids aged 12-19 questioned, "51% believe Chris Brown was responsible for the incident, 46% believe Rihanna was responsible, and 52% said both were to blame; 52% said the media was treating Brown unfairly; 44% said fighting was a normal part of a relationship."

Not only that, but a "significant" number said that "Rihanna was destroying Chris Brown’s career" and just as many women as men placed the blame on Rihanna.

How sad!

Casey Corcoran, director of the commission’s Start Strong initiative, which conducted the survey, said, "The story of Chris Brown and Rihanna may have happened 3,000 miles away, but it is very much a Boston story. We do know that teen dating violence or intimate partner violence cuts across all cultures, classes, genders."

Experts surmise that young people's sympathy toward Brown may be a result of the "normalization of violence" in pop culture.

Collins-Gousby of Casa Myrna-Vazquez, a Boston-based anti-violence organization, said, "[Chris Brown] is or had been promoted as the kid next door, he was familiar and likeable. Among teens, I think their first reaction was, well, what did she do to deserve a beating that significant?"

But Corcoran also sees the incident as "an opportunity to have this conversation with the young people in our lives."

So parents, talk to your kids!!!!!!!!!

It was honestly both of their faults….Its always three parts 2 a story..their sides and the truth…but i totally feel sorry for the 44% of kids that believe fighting is apart of a relationship!

    7. 7

HHHA HAAA HAAA!!! that's the way the ghetoo rolls yall! pathetic! this country has truly gone to shit!

    8. 8

      Ouch For Rihanna…
Thats scary though 44% think its normal =S

    9. 9

I'm sorry, did you just say that it is BOTH their faults that Chris Brown tried to strangle her? Hit her? I don't care how the fight started, hitting someone IS WRONG. You learn that in pre-K, c'mon now. Let's hope they all watch OPRAH!

Perezito, I think you must recognize that a man can only beat a woman twice if the girl excuse the first bite. It doesn't mean it was Ok for him to do that, but it means she didn't set up the line and then things got worse, because, obviously, this guy is a total shrimp! Rihanna getting back with him Its a bad example to her fans and other women, also a disrespectful behavior to the person she must care the most about: herself.

    12. 12

I think they both should go lay low for a year or two there both losers.

Re: ebonygoddess – "Its always three parts 2 a story..their sides and the truth" I always feel that way anytime I read some of the nonsense God wrote in the Bible. I think, "This is clearly such a self-serving lie! I wonder what REALLY happened."

    18. 18

That is seriously messed up. However, so is Rihanna going back to him…talk about setting a bad example.

    19. 19

What do you expect when these kids come from black ghetto trash families with no father around? They have watched their mothers get beat up by theiri drug dealing boyfriends and think it is normal.

    20. 20

Doesn´t surpsie me. From what I have read and heard, Alot of black people are siding with Chris Brown and say Rihanna had to have done something to deserve the beating. It´s normal for them, they see women get beatup everyday. That´s probably why they don´t see ´what the big deal´is. Very sad

    21. 21

Would somebody please shoot this untalented, ugly muthaf*cka please?!

    22. 22

Unreal. Maybe it's outdated or sexist these days or whatever, but one of the first things I ever learned as a kid was to never hit a girl.
I was also taught to give up my seat for a woman on a bus and hold a door open for a lady but apparently that's wrong now too.

    23. 23

FIRST !!!!!!!! ………….I THINK WHETHER RIHANNA OR CHRIS BROWN STARTED IT A MAN HAS NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO RIGHT TO PUT HIS HANDS ON A WOMAN…FOR PEOPLE WHO THINK SHE DESERVED IT, USE NEED TO GO HANG UR SELVES…AND FOR PEOPLE WHO SAY SHE IS A LOSER FOR GOING BACK TO CB…WELL….THAT IS WAT TRUE LOVE IS….YOU CAN'T LET GO….BECAUSE THEY REALLY DO LOVE EACHOTHER !!!! BUT OF COURSE USE PPL HAVN'T HAD A TRUE RELASHIONSHIP…SO U WOULDN'T KNOW ABOUT THESE STUFF!!! NOT UR THING SO DON'T COMMENT !!!! GRR!!

    27. 27

fuck them asshole boston kids. chris brown is using rihanna to salvage his own career. what do they say about that?

    28. 28

Wow! All I can say is either these kids also come from abusive homes and follow the abuser's thinking, because they have heard that repeated over and over or they're misinformed and misguided. It's not Rihanna's fault that Brown beat her so badly that she was bleeding - what kind of man does that to a woman he supposedly loves? This is a moment in which in high schools all across the nation, people need to seriously talk about domestic abuse. The abuser carries fault for hitting and then manipulating the woman, so she thinks it's her fault and that she is nothing without him. Abusers are master manipulators and people need to open their eyes and recognize that so we can stop blaming women for abuse and staying with abusers. It's not as simple as leaving.

    29. 29

Re: ebonygoddess – Some disagreement is part of a healthy relationship. You and your partner don't have to see eye to eye on EVERY SINGLE THING. Fighting like this? That's not.

    30. 30

It WAS both of their faults — Plus shes back with him anyways — she OBVIOUSLY doesn't care that he tried to kill her…so anyone wanna tell me why theyre BOTH not to blame then? He hits her — she likes it, end of story.

This makes me so sad. So many people have died in vain. It seems like the more we try to do to combat this horrible epidemic (relationship violence) the worse it gets. Ignorance is an epidemic these days and as a result, so is violence. It is a shame that this country is getting more and more uneducated and ignorant. Shouldn't it be the opposite?

    35. 35

Perez, she lost a lot of people's sympathy, including mine, when she went back to that prick just a couple of days after he beat her. He should never have done to her what he did, but I am pissed at her for her reaction to it.

    36. 36

if whitney/"boston" from the bad girls club is any representation of the city, they are a bunch of idiots…and this survey shows that.

    37. 37

Oh, this is absolutely about desensitization. The country is so pumped full of violence that it can barely see straight. When CSI first came out it was a huge deal to show such violent deaths, but now there are 38,000 shows just like it all competing to be "more shocking". So… yes, ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous that we end up with a culture that shrugs off domestic violence.

    38. 38

think of the demographic they've surveyed here people… if its inner city boston? duh.

    39. 39

wow, thats sad how stupid people are now a days, think about how much of these boys beat their g.f , and ON TOP of that, imagine how many of these girls get beat up and think its alright, talk about dumbass, fuck i hate people like that. When will they get a clue

    40. 40

That's like, 254%. Out of 200 kids, 300 failed math.

    41. 41

I am not nor have I ever been a fan of his but I did check out his facebook fan page because I had updates of friends joining it and was SHOCKED at how many people were supportive of him and blamming Rihanna. Absolutely ridiculous!!!

    42. 42

I agree, if a man hits you once that is his fault, if you stay there long enough for him to do it again then it is your fault.

    43. 43

That´s sooooo fucked up! There is something wrong with the way kids today are btought up if they really believe that it was Rihannas fault Chris Brown beat her up!

    44. 44

This shows you our education system in America is just a joke. I watched Tyra on Oprah yesterday and saw the interview Tyra did with Chris Brown. He is what our children are calling a role model? He looked like and sounded an illiterate thug to me. I can't believe there are parents out there that would let their children listen to anything this guy comes out with especially now after the whole episode with the VIOLENT ATTACK on someone else.

    45. 45

I SO AGREE SHE HIT HIM FIRST HE HIT HER BACK AND SHE DID RUIN HIS CAREER AND I THINK US TRUE CHRIS BROWN FAN'S NEED TO STICK TOGETHER AND RUIN HERS!

    46. 46

lol, it is in Massachussets what do you get expect? Kids over there have to fight to survive practically.

    47. 47

Re: wissem – no way it´s true love to go back to somebody that used violence against you, don´t you ever say that! True love is about respect, caring and doing what´s best for the both of you! In Rihanna´s case true love would be, instead of going back to him, loving herself enough to say no and seak professional help for the both of them!

    48. 48

      Re: evilluckycharms

EXACTLY, I just didn't want to be the one to say it.

    49. 49

FIRST: It is terrible for all of you to be saying that people who live in and around the Boston area are all a bunch of ghetto black kids who come from abusive homes. That is ABSOLUTELY wrong.
SECOND: It was not okay for Rihanna to hit Chris and throw a cell phone at him while he was driving. I agree that it was a terrible and awful thing for him to retaliate and hurt her so badly because of that though. It was also not okay for her to go back to someone who did that to her. By doing that, she was setting a bad example for those in abusive relationships by basically saying that it's okay to go back to someone who hurts you emotionally and physically.
THIRD: I think that this statistic just shows that the teens from Boston understand that abuse can go either way. It is NOT OKAY for a man to hit a woman, and it is also NOT OKAY for a woman to hit a man.
FOURTH: I REALLY DON'T CARE IF ANY OF YOU AGREE WITH ME, SO BASICALLY, FUCK OFF.

    53. 53

are you kidding me!?!?!? KIDS are so focking imature and retarded! does anyone realllly think they put any thought into this?!?! I BET half of them, mostly the boys think its sooooo funny and shit. Thats like when back in high school we had to take a government test and we all totally bomed it cuz we didnt give a shit if we did well…and the state of michigan made us all take it over again cuz we were little fucks who havent grown up yet!

    54. 54

Totally agreed with the statistics!! Its rihanna fault too!! Equally! Chris had to remove his name Form the fucking kids choice awards so should that bitch rihanna For promoting domestic violence and showing girls that its ok to forgive and get back with someone that hits you! She a disgusting horrible excuse For a woman and is sending the wrong message… Wtf she acting like the victim and eveyone is turning on CB but yet she all over him! These is something seriously wrong with that. Its not fair For him to be the only guilty one here!

    55. 55

Sadly, I'm not surprised at all. Remember, Chris and Rihanna both are celebrities. Americans have a twisted view of the rich and famous. We see as gods, not real people with real problems.

    56. 56

Unfortunately the fact that the survey happened in Boston has nothing to do with the results. Kids who haven't had the opportunity to talk with a responsible, caring adult about this tragedy would likely say the same things nationwide.

    57. 57

She's placing the blame on herself. That's a huge part of the abuse cycle. Why should we be suprised. My best friend was beaten bloody by her boyfriend; chunks of hair ripped from her head. She says, "well , in all fairness, I hit him too." Yes, and it's good to admit there were two parties. But when it gets to the point where one party is tucked into a defensive fetal position (Rihanna and my friend both) and the man is STILL beating hard on her, it's gone too far. The fault here doesn't lay with who started it, it's on the shoulders of who took it too far. Fighting is part of any healthy relationship, but either party resorting to blows is a recipe for disaster.

    58. 58

If someone is viewed as "cool" or is very talented, as Chris Brown is, It's hard to just change your mind about how to feel about that person. Look at RiRi!! She's sticking with him!! What if it was one of your friends or family??
It's too bad, but Rihanna is sending a very bad message. And Brown will do it again. Too bad Rihanna is not strong enough to stand up to him and send a clear message that these things will not be tolerated. It was her chance to make a difference, and she failed.

      59

That's sad and disturbing. I don't like the way the fighting question is worded. I think the word fighting is ambiguous, it should've been arguing. Almost everyone argues with their bf/gf at one time or another, but what does fighting mean? Verbal or physical? Verbal fighting is normal, but physical fighting isn't. It's shocking how many people are on his side. Rihanna has really dropped the ball on this issue. Sad.

    60. 60

      unbelievable.
      are they fucking crazy
how can they say that is normal ?
how can they say rihanna is to blame for her ending up in hospital ?

"51% believe Chris Brown was responsible for the incident, 46% believe Rihanna was responsible, and 52% said both were to blame; 52% said the media was treating Brown unfairly; 44% said fighting was a normal part of a relationship." this adds up to 245%, which answers are together and what were the questions? + they did not give the amt in “significant” number said “Rihanna was destroying Chris Brown’s career.” A very scientific study. of 200 kids. Yep, that is about all the kids in boston, one of the largest cities in the united states. again a very scientific study. WHY DID YOU EVEN BOTHER PRINTING THIS MARIO? OH YEH, YOU HAD TO PRINT SOMETHING ABOUT CHRIS BROWN ……AGAIN, AGAIN….. AGAIN…. AGAIN… AGAIN… AND AGAIN….

    74. 74

See what inner-city "publik edukashun" does to kids?

    75. 75

see ri is not stupid is she?so why with the worl telling her he is an abuser and violent, does she go back to him. people say women do it all the time true but NOT when so many, from mom to oprah are saying leave him. and yet she remains mum on her side. i think the truth is she attacked him while he was driving, and once he managed to get the car stopped he retaliated. so now shes the victim, but shes not going to be adult about it and say 'well i started it and it was a mutual fight that she lost'. she likes all the 'poor little riri' attention she is getting now.
and fighting is NOT normal in a relationship, but arguing is…i wonder how clearly the survey takers defined the 2 - i bet most of the kids surveyed dont differentiate between a physical fight and a heated argument in the sense of the word 'fight'..

    76. 76

From Boston, and I don't agree @ all, but as this happened I have friends that were like she deserved it, and shes going to go back with him (before she did). Sadly people actually think like this…it's seriously messed up that anyone would think this is ok.

    77. 77

      Misogyny at its finest

    78. 78

you've got to be fucking kidding me.
i'm a teen and i believe and know its all Chris 'Beat Her Down" is at fault.
who cares if Rihanna hit him 1st?
      you don't hit a woman!
and since that we all know that he did do it and the fact she took him back, both of their careers are fucked, not just Douche Bag Browns.
so all those ignorant teens in Boston need a fucking reality check and if they were in Rihanna's position, they wouldn't be saying the stuff that they are in that survey.
it gets me so livid when i read shit like this, people need to stop being so ignorant and close minded and maybe smart stuff will come out of their mouths.

    79. 79

Well we know that kids aren't too bright nowadays. Look at Rihanna herself for taking the fucker that beat the shit outta her back.

    82. 82

    83. 83

THEY ASKED 200 KIDS, THATS IT, FROM AN INNER CITY SCHOOL…THE ANSWERS WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME HERE IN LA, OR ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE COUNTRY. BOSTON IS AN AMAZING CITY, BUT THERE IS POVERTY THERE AS THERE IS IN EVERY MAJOR METROPOLITAN CITY IN THE COUNTRY.

    84. 84

Re: ImFaboosh – I agree! That Rihanna went back to him so quickly, it's like she's giving him permission to beat her again.

    85. 85

and another thing, people who think fighting and arguing is normal in a relationship is just really stupid.
yes, it is normal to disagree on things and not see eye to eye but fighting and arguing to an extend is not healthy nor acceptable.
i hope Rihanna and all the women in the past that have been abused learn that.
and should never feel that its their fault because its not.
so like i said before, all those idiots that did that survey need to read a book or two and get educated on real stuff.

    86. 86

I HAVE TO ASK AGAIN…DID ANY OF YOU PEA BRAINS READ THE ARTICLE?
200 FUCKING KIDS…NOT 2000, NOT ALL OF THE KIDS IN THE CITY…PLEASE FOR FUCKS SAKE SOMEONE DO THIS SURVEY IN OTHER CITIES TO MAKE IT FAIR

    87. 87

AND FUCK YOU PEREZ FOR MAKING 200 KIDS THE REPRESENTATIVES OF KIDS IN THE ENTIRE CITY…FUCKING COCK SUCKER

    88. 88

Re: lovelivetwilight – Haha, your whole post is just one HUGE hypocritical statement. Especially where you say "people need to stop being so ignorant and close minded and maybe smart stuff will come out of their mouths." because you ARE being 'close-minded' with your response. 200 out of 59,900? hardly scientific. my kids fit into that age group and they are sick of people like 'Mario' and other d list 'celebrities' speaking out when Rhianna has not spoken out. they don't know who to believe and they do not CARE anymore. They do not CARE about rhianna or chris brown. They do believe that no one should hit anyone, MAN OR WOMAN. BUT THEY ARE SICK OF THE WHOLE THING. I AM SICK OF ALL THESE 'D LISTERS GETTING OUT AND HAVING TO TALK TO 'RHIANNA'. donate money to shelters that help abuse victims, that will help. I am sick of you Mario going on and on about rhianna. Yes, she is young, but, she should have a brain and should have ears to hear this. that is all everyone could do. It is like there is this big cliche and if you don't say something to rhi rhi, you are in trouble and are blacklisted, bad, bad, bad. you are like one of the meanest girls of the club mario. it is really sad. I have heard many people say something this week just to get it in so they will not be on the 'outs' It is sickining. what about the women that are beaten daily, some to death? they don't matter? only rhianna? only brown is a douche? mario? what about the woman who has absolutely NO MONEY, NO WAY TO GET TO A SHELTER, KIDS, AFRAID FOR HER LIFE, NO JOB, NO CAREER? CUT OFF FROM FAMILY, NO FRIENDS WHAT ABOUT HER MARIO? WHAT ABOUT HER MARIO? DOESN'T HER LIFE MATTER OR BECAUSE HER ISN'T FAMOUS, SCREW HER? THAT IS WHAT IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE SAYING AND IT SUCKS

Rihanna needs to come out and put all the rumors to rest!!! What really happend?!!! Is she REALLY back with Brown (after what he did to her)???!!! It doen't matter who started the argument. It is NEVER okay for a man to hit a woman!!! And to all those who believe otherewise - just imagine this: what if the VICTIM is someone you love - your sister, your friend???!!! Then let's look at the situation from a business perspective, Rihanna, you are ruining your career for getting back with him! Your whole image was around the idea of a "fiece female"… NO one will respect a woman who does not respect herself. We know you want to put this behind you and move on…but getting back with Brown and act like this never happened is not a wise idea. This is beyond just about you…what kind of message are you sending out to young women and men? To girls who are currently in abusive relationships? I won't even comment on Brown…he has done nothing to win our sympathy…that initial statement he made…was so insincere…
