Boston Kids Are Misguided, Blame Rihanna For Her Attack
According to a new survey of Boston teens, it's Rihanna's fault that Chris Brown beat her!
Come again?!
Survey says that of 200 Boston kids aged 12-19 questioned, "51% believe Chris Brown was responsible for the incident, 46% believe Rihanna was responsible, and 52% said both were to blame; 52% said the media was treating Brown unfairly; 44% said fighting was a normal part of a relationship."
Not only that, but a "significant" number said that "Rihanna was destroying Chris Brown’s career" and just as many women as men placed the blame on Rihanna.
How sad!
Casey Corcoran, director of the commission’s Start Strong initiative, which conducted the survey, said, "The story of Chris Brown and Rihanna may have happened 3,000 miles away, but it is very much a Boston story. We do know that teen dating violence or intimate partner violence cuts across all cultures, classes, genders."
Experts surmise that young people's sympathy toward Brown may be a result of the "normalization of violence" in pop culture.
Collins-Gousby of Casa Myrna-Vazquez, a Boston-based anti-violence organization, said, "[Chris Brown] is or had been promoted as the kid next door, he was familiar and likeable. Among teens, I think their first reaction was, well, what did she do to deserve a beating that significant?"
But Corcoran also sees the incident as "an opportunity to have this conversation with the young people in our lives."

Wow! All I can say is either these kids also come from abusive homes and follow the abuser's thinking, because they have heard that repeated over and over or they're misinformed and misguided. It's not Rihanna's fault that Brown beat her so badly that she was bleeding - what kind of man does that to a woman he supposedly loves? This is a moment in which in high schools all across the nation, people need to seriously talk about domestic abuse. The abuser carries fault for hitting and then manipulating the woman, so she thinks it's her fault and that she is nothing without him. Abusers are master manipulators and people need to open their eyes and recognize that so we can stop blaming women for abuse and staying with abusers. It's not as simple as leaving.

Unfortunately the fact that the survey happened in Boston has nothing to do with the results. Kids who haven't had the opportunity to talk with a responsible, caring adult about this tragedy would likely say the same things nationwide.
She's placing the blame on herself. That's a huge part of the abuse cycle. Why should we be suprised. My best friend was beaten bloody by her boyfriend; chunks of hair ripped from her head. She says, "well , in all fairness, I hit him too." Yes, and it's good to admit there were two parties. But when it gets to the point where one party is tucked into a defensive fetal position (Rihanna and my friend both) and the man is STILL beating hard on her, it's gone too far. The fault here doesn't lay with who started it, it's on the shoulders of who took it too far. Fighting is part of any healthy relationship, but either party resorting to blows is a recipe for disaster.
If someone is viewed as "cool" or is very talented, as Chris Brown is, It's hard to just change your mind about how to feel about that person. Look at RiRi!! She's sticking with him!! What if it was one of your friends or family??
