Jacko diehards who didn't trust the reliability of online purchasing spent the night camped out in front of the O2 to assure first dibs on the tix. It's a good thing they did because all one million tickets for the Gloved One's comeback performances were snatched up this morning in a matter of hours!!
So insane!!!!
Tickets to see Jackson are going for as much as $14,000 dollars on eBay, but we can only imagine the prices will skyrocket as the performances draw closer.

Just because someone doesn't release hit albums every 2-3 years, it doesn't mean they're irrelevant. Look at Sade..she releases an album once every 8 years, and when she does, people buy it no matter how long she's been out of the spotlight. Same with Enya..she releases an album about once every 7 or so years that sounds exactly the same as every other album she released, and people love it. Other older artists like Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, or Linda Ronstadt know that their days of having hit singles are pretty much gone, but they put out records still just for the sake of making music, even if they're not big sellers. Personally I don't think Madonna could every lay low and just quit making records for a while, at least for no longer than 3 years. It seems to me she just still wants to be talked about and still be a contender among other younger artists. It REALLY wouldn't hurt her to pass the torch to the younger artists, or make an album that doesn't focus on hits and just go with something she's never done before or that's true to her (maybe a rock album or an album of song covers); she's already created a legacy for herself that can't be matched.

MJ had it going on. I'm not a big fan of the later stuff, and I don't really care for a lot of the early Motown stuff either but, up from the time they went Disco and started calling themselves the Jacksons (instead of the Jackson 5) to MJ's own Thriller, and a few of the songs from BAD, Michael was the bomb, IMO.
In regards to the MJ vs Madonna debate and when was MJ's last hit versus when was Madonna's. Doesn't it say a lot that MJ hasn't released a new album in nearly 8 years but out of the blue he can announce 50 concert dates and they all sell out within hours, whereas Madonna has to keep making mediocre albums featuring the star of the day just to keep people talking about her? Let me tell you a secret about Madonna, she wishes she could take the time off that MJ did. Any performer who's been in the industry that long would love to take a break. But Madonna can't. She couldn't get away with taking years off like MJ has and come back and expect to even sell out one show.

Well if you define success in terms of money, then it was the most successful. However, will her tour still be talked about 5-10 years from now? Probably not. Cher's Farewell tour is still talked about today, and that show was several years ago, and in most people's opinion, was truly a better show. Success isn't always about who makes the most money. And you do know that sellout shows are nothing but hype. There's really no such thing as a concert that sells in minutes, at least not because of fans buying up the tickets. A chunk of those tickets are bought by scalpers and ticket distributors who mark them up and sell them for a profit; the rest is quickly gobbled up fans. This creates a lot of hype and people think since the show is sold out, that it must be something they need to be part of, like something historic. And when you're Madonna, and you play a lot of large venues and charge $300 tickets that "sell out," of course she's going to rake in big numbers.
