      not for anything, but the Pope does have a point… on 2 levels… first off, the Catholic church is all about abstinence, and although many, MANY people do not follow this, it might help certain situations. In Africa AIDS is a major problem, as well as single mothers with many children and no means of supporting them, and the country overall IS impoverished! Don't you think maybe, JUST MAYBE, they SHOULD stop having sex in order to try and fix more then just the issue of AIDS. people get all worked up on the subject of religion and sex and shit like that but in actuality, if they stopped fucking like bunnies then maybe they could fix thier country and the rest of the world. Like, hello…USA…how many more single mothers and welfare cases does your country need! Yeah condoms are great, but their not 100%, and it seems that people think that condoms are the green light to just go ahead and have sex. Tell that to your 13 or 14 year old daughter, sister, friend, etc who decides that a condom will be her saving grace!
      There is a reason there is age requirements throughout the world for certain things, and having sex, regardless if it is for procreation or pleasure, should be done if a couple is finacially stable and mature enough to handle any outcomes. Just venting.

      okay perez, first of all, you shouldn't offend the Pope like that even if you don't agree with him. the Church DOES have a statement, and I think it's correct, but at the same time, you can't have all the people to not have sex, so using condoms prevents HIV, but the ONLY secure way is abstinence.

      In case the Pope didn't know, condoms had existed since prehistoric times (so, condoms are older than Hinduism, the world's oldest religion), and he's trying to ban them? OMG, I hope the Holy Ghost enter into his body and make him change his mind. Preventing HIV is a matter of public health, not a matter of religion. I might be one of the sheeps of the RC church, but I know I will not got to hell for using birth control. God knows that you cannot attempt against your own life (5th command), and so do you. At least make sure (if you're part of the RC church) to do it one person at a time if using BC.

      You're absolutely right Perez. The Pope has to wake up and smell the roses. People are not likely to follow his example and abstain from sex. In order to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, you have to educate and inform. If the Catholic church had evolved with it's followers, it wouldn't have lost so much footing over the last 50 years.

      AIDS is more rampant in poorer countries, we all know that. In Africa for instance I think there should be safe houses in every village operated by women who are from different villages (in order to keep it private). There should be HELP phones in cities directly linked to a help line who can dispatch a driver to pick you up if you are in danger or are being sexually abused. Government run regional testing that is heavily enforced. Where you are obligated to come in for testing in order to receive some type of updated ticket.

      I could go on an on with ideal and little details that go along with each of the ideas I've listed above…but the reality of it is, this disease has hit the world hard. We can not just stand back and watch hundreds and millions of people die each year and not do anything.

      If it was a plague we would be frantic….and this is a plague, get we live in our own heads and forget.

      PEREZ: I hope you like it in hell. You just publicly attacked someone who has been fighting and campaigning AIDS for many years…..and you attack him for asking the public for refraining from sex? Being LOOSE is what got our world in this mess.

      The only reason why the Catholic church has lost any footing is because people have lost respect for their bodies, the sanctity of the sexual act itself and respect for what they will be seen as.

      People no longer care about their families, they don't care of they are considered a whore and what it will look like on their parents or siblings.

      It's the selfishness of our era that has got us in to this mess. In the 60's they wanted to be free, in the 70's they wanted to get high, in the 80's they just wanted to DANCE and in the 90's it was all about money and now in the 00's, we're lost.

      We were too free, did too much drugs, danced all night and spent too much money and now we're all broke…depressed, disrespecting our bodies, having sex at 9 and ON for gods sake…and in a recession.

      Let's hope to GOD we all turn back to faith, the world needs it.

However, In the Netherlands people started leaving the church in the fifties because the teachings were very dogmatic and static then. You had to abstain from this and this, you had to have so many children, you had to be married to another Catholic and so on. People just got fed up with all these rules. If the church had been a little more leanient and forthcoming then we wouldn't be where we are now, I think.

Most likely the spread of AIDS would be isolated, considering that abstinence is 100% effective. Considering that, I'd actually say Benedict is actually encouraging something positive. Unless you think that spread of AIDS is a good thing.

      While I do believe that the Pope has a point, I think it is too idealistic. This isn't Utopia, people don't just say hey im not gonna have sex for the rest of my life. We are humans.
