Smashing Pumpkins Drummer Leaves Billy Behind

Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the Smashing Pumpkins!
Again!
Granted, the first time around in 1996 was a little different, you know, on account of the drug addiction and the touring keyboardist's overdose.
Anyway!
Frontman Billy Corgan announced on his website that he has plans to "continue to write and record as Smashing Pumpkins," even though the megalomaniac is the only original member left in the group!
Corgan has plans to start recording a new Pumpkins album with the with the fresh line-up in the spring.

Well.. Kelly Clarkson sells more albums, but if thats the direction modern music is going in, I'm staying in the past. Bitch ain't even pretty.. so bad music and nothing to look at.. where's the fun?

Because all you people dissing on the pumpkins (past or present) like the "quality" music right? The kind of music where guys wear girls clothes, and the pop music that is so super commercialized that these bands and music artists aren't popular for more than 3 years. Okay, I like that music too sometimes, but come on…what do people know anything about music anymore? Apparently not anything about the Grunge genre or people would be rendering more respect than mindless negative comments.
Billy corgan IS the smashing pumpkins. he wrote 1979 all by himself and recorded it all by himself. (with a little help from jimmy, but billy did most of the drumming via the drum machine)
Billy is capable of doing amazing stuff on his own, Adore was essentially his own record, and thats the best album ever made. I still have faith =)

Grunge is way past its expiration date. Corgan-cue-ball is pushing mid40s about now, isn't he? He'll wise up in his 50s and reunite with his old band mates like all the old rock dinosaurs. Unless he blows his head off like nemesis Cobain.

Another note — as a 15 yr fan, I have NEVER considered the Smashing Pumpkins grunge. Does anyone? Grunge music was about not caring how you dressed, whether the notes were a little sloppy, or what you were projecting onto the audience as long as you didn't care too much. Billy Corgan, for better or for worse, has never been like that.

I agree. I love that album. It's my favorite.
THe Pumpkins first album "Gish" was their best IMHO. I remember having to go to my local record store and have them special order it because they hadn't heard of the Smashing Pumpkins. This was of course before they really made it big. I think I seen them on 120 minutes or headbangers ball or something. The same place I saw Jane's Addiction the first time while at the beach. COOOMING DOOOOWN THE MOOOOUNTAIIIIN.

A friend of mine auditioned for and was offered the touring slot on keyboards but decided against it since he didn't see the band being viable enough for him to give up his current job. Never been a fan of them, but he is a really good guitarist.
More power to him making $$$ selling their back catalog for advertisers appealing to Gen X'rs that are delusional and think they were cool in the 90's.
