Green Day Is Back!

Finally!
FIVE years after their commercially and critically successful last release, American Idiot, Green Day has announced that their 8th studio album will be available for purchase May 15th.
If you can't wait that long, the first single off of 21st Century Breakdown, "Know Your Enemy," will be available sometime in April.
According to an Entertainment Weekly sneek peak, 21st doesn't deviate too much from the style established in Idiot, and is even divided into three acts: "Heroes and Cons," "Charlatans and Saints," and "Horseshoes and Handgrenades."
They should go on tour with the reunited No Doubt!

Seriosly since when did greenday become all things punk?, was anyone alive back in the 90's,?, they were HATED (remember people thowing mud at them at woodstock?, people mocking them for sounding british etc.), one word OVERRATED!

Yeah…never liked them much after they left Lookout to go to the major label sell out arena. My husband has seen them several times in the early 90's in small dive ass clubs. It's just really funny to read about them HERE on Perez. Not one damn sheeple would have EVER listened to them when they were on an Indie label, not played on the radio. That's even funnier that those same types of people swoon and love the band 'now'.

- The album has 17 confirmed songs, possible an 18th. It's gonna be a monster.
- What was supposed to be the 1st single, "21st Century Breakdown", was leaked a few weeks ago. You can find it and hear it if you search "Green Cops Of A New Religious Day" on YouTube. The name,s so odd cuz the uploader didn't want Warner to find it and have it removed.
Oh please. Ok, a lot of their music is pop-punk. or alternative. But American Idiot most definitely is punk rock. You can't deny that. It became huge just because they were speaking out on things that tons of ppl agreed on, but weren't brave enough to come out and say it themselves. That album, even just calling it what they did, could have ended their career right there. Yet they still released it. And they themselves are punks. They always have been, since back in the day at Gilman. They lived and breathed it since they were kids. They have the ideals, the style, the attitudes etc. You don't see fucking Simple Plan or Sum 41 singing lines like "Zeig Heil to the President gasman".
I'm so excited! I can't wait. Love them! My favorite band. Period.

I got to know them and their music first on an extended tour they did with German s Rock Band DIE TOTEN HOSEN at the beginning of the 90s in Germany. Green Day were support act in Germany to Toten Hosen back then….All Hosen Fans knew all the lyrics of the SUPPORT ACT Green Day as well and kept singing along with them loudly for an hour or so at every venue (I was at ALL of them!) - which was and still is a really very rare thing among German Hosen fans….
I ll definitely buy their new record!

By the way: I was never punk in the sensde that it means living from social security and begging for money from strangers at underground stastions - but punk rock is one of my favorite type of music, actually has been for 20 years now!

It is really the same with bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Erasure..just to name a few. When they were only known by the 'underground' (in the 80's) and not played on the radio, people like me were teased and such. But once those three bands had a mainstream radio hit–"Lovesong", "Personal Jesus", and "Chains of Love", you had all these people proclaiming how much they loved those bands! The same thing happened with Metallica.

There s this great German band (actually, they meantime ARE the biggest as far as record sales and live ticket sales are concerned and I know them very well) that you should listen to, especially their OLDER songs: Die Toten Hosen
You ll find a lot of them and of their LIVE performances on Youtube. They often tour Argentina (they played at the RAMONES' last concert in Buenoes Aires in 1996 as well and have a lot of fans meantime in South America (Argentina, Brazil and Chile) as well!
They in 1995 created their OWN record label ( I once worked fpor them) after they left a major (Virgin Records)….
You ll find someof it on youtube.
I m more into British old-day melodic punk bands such as The Vibritors, The Boyz (more Glamrock actually), Stiff Little Fingers, Wreckless Eric, a.s.o. - The Toten Hosen made an entire CD with old punk covers, it s called "Learning English" and in every old song the original singers, such as Johnny Thunders appear as guest singers with Campino…
