Finally, after two years of hosting the CBS Evening News, Katie Couric has managed to increase her ratings.
It's about time!
She's repeatedly placed third nationally in the evening news ratings, always behind ABC and NBC. But, here's something to gloat about.
Reports now show that Couric has beaten NBC's Nightly News in the New York market for at least the past six months.
Even in the last month alone, she's increased her overall viewers by 22%. So what's going on? Is she doing something new and different?
According to Couric, "It's all due to the staff, the correspondents and producer Rick Kaplan. It takes a while for anything to click and for people to get used to me."
She adds about first starting out that "I was naive to think we could try certain things. I didn't realize how white-hot the spotlight would be."
Ya think Katie can make the good ratings stay???

I think she has become hardened and at times unfair in her interviews- she seems to have an opinion and pushes that. I prefer when journalists ask questions and let the viewer form his or her own judgement. I don't know why her ratings would be lower than the other newscasts though. I get my news from the news channels.

So reading that more closely…..nationwide she is ONLY beating the other news show in one city. Not the greatest.

i read somewhere that when she changed her hair her ratings went down cuz everyone liked the old hairdo and related to it. lame excuse.

I've watched her a few times, she's not bad. I doubt CBS would want to get rid of her so soon after they brought her on, since that would make for such a public failure.

i am so tired of the duplicity. if she were a man coming into a new position, no one would question that it takes time to establish a rapport with viewers. the spotlight is white hot, hotter for women in her position. she's always had my viewership, she will continue to have it.

If this woman gets a teensy bit FATTER, all those people who watch her show (three of them, I believe) will have to buy WIDE-SCREEN television sets! She just doesn't seem to be able to control herself with the eating! And bangs again, I see. I remember when she first started work as a…what is it she does, anyway…she didn't like people saying she was "cute." She had the bangs and short hair, like now. And that voice. Oh Lord. Who cares.

Listen; Couric's interview was straightforward, and completely non-partisan. It's the non-answers (what!?!?) that were the problem.
I do admire Katie and hope for the best. I've noticed that she has dressed so down, dark clothing and her hair is to boyish. You have to tone down the look to get taken more seriously? Poor Katie I know it's a huge struggle fighting in a mans world but hang in there hon.
