David Banda Treated Like A Prince In Malawi
Madonna is on her way to Malawi to adopt a 3-year-old girl named Mercy.
The Material Mom is expected in court on Monday.
But, in what can only be an awkward situation, Madge will be facing a homecoming party for her son, David Banda, whom she also adopted from Malawi a few years ago.
Why?
Apparently, everyone is expecting the kid to get reunited with his biological dad Yohane banda, the one that gave him up for adoption. According to In Touch Weekly, Yohane said recently, “I am excited to get reunited with my son after three years.”
He also mentioned that his hometown, Lipunga Village, has already planned a huge party for when David returns to visit. There are also plans for him to visit the Malawian orphanage where he was adopted from.
Lucy Chipeta, the director of the orphanage, added “We can’t wait for David’s return. All the children are happy to be reunited with David. We have planned a special welcoming party for him. We will take him back to his crib and reunite him with the nanny who was looking after him.”
A rep for Madge has yet to respond, though we're not sure how her Madgesty is feeling about all this.

I always thought it would be a mistake for Madonna to adopt a child whose parent was still known/living. Adoptions really should be anonymous. I know his biological father is just waiting for David to get old enough so that he can ask him for money; same with David's brothers and sisters. It's going to be tough for David when he grows up.

I am an avid reader and was somewhat offended by by questioning whether or not an adopted child should meet his/her biological parents. Guess what? Open adoptions are very common these days! In fact, I gave my daughter up for an open adoption and see her and speak to her on the phone quite frequently!!! It's actually the best of both worlds!! I will continue to read your column but do a little research before you question something like this!

Most adoptions these days are open. When adoptions are secret and closed most adoptees know there is something in their life that was missing. This is the healthiest way of going about adopting. And also why adopt a child when they have a parent alive. She could have given money to David's father so that he could have afforded to stay with his family. it would have not been that much money for her. Also most countries don't let people as old as Madonna to adopt. Most countries have an age limit of 45 years old.
I'd want them to know their biological parent(s) IF I felt they wouldn't be harmed by it in any way. David's father seems downright creepy. I think I'd leave David HOME. I've kind of given up on Vadge doing the right thing, though. She's a middle-aged mom with a 20 year-old boy toy. Great message to send your kids.
It would be very selfish to exklude the biological parents from the childs life if it can have a relationchip to him och her. When the child is an adult it might want to meet the biological parent and if they have alredy passed away there might be som recentment to the adoptive parent. To let David meet his birthparent would be the unselfsh thing to do and adoption should be an unselfish act.

Yeah I wouldn't mind the biological parents in my child's life, so long as they were not "mom" and "dad". I just think it would be too hard to have this child not look at you as their parent, but look at you as someone who just cares for them. Just my opinion.

i think that if both biological and adopted parents have agreed on terms prior to meeting, then everything should go fine. i think it can be done and an amicable way where the child is happy with both, but also understands that he goes home with the adopted parent. Even tho i'm not a fan of Mod, i wish them well.

To go through the long and tedious adoption process, finally get that child you have waited for all your life, and for it to be taken away because you were unable to have your own children…it's not right. Of course adopted children should be given an opportunity to have a relationship with their biological parents. Adoption isn't about wiping out any trace of a childs past and denying them any knowledge of where they come from, it's about providing them with a secure, stable and loving home, which sometimes the parents who brought them into the world are unable to provide.

I think its important that David stay connected to his roots even if that means his biological father being a part of his life. It might be akward for Madge but in the end it would best for David. He will grow up knowing that his bio father loves him and that he put him up for adoption to better his life.

It is very bad manners of the people of Malawi to make all these plans. They are taking this upon themselves without the permission of the adoptive mother. They don't know her itinerary, what her other plans are. And isnt the father awfully interested in his "son" now - meanwhile David was dumped off at the orphanage and was he visiting him then?….hardly. Some of these people sound opportunistic.

it is the standard these days for domestic adoptions in the US to be open and for the child and birth parents to have some type of connection and relationship. this is not the sixties or seventies anymore when all that was a big secret. this is accepted as a better way to do things, for the children. international adoptions are usually anonymous, or the children are orphans, but this situation is clearly different, so of course the boy should see/be in contact with his birth father. and more often than every three years hopefully!

I'm adopted and know my birthmother. I also have 2 brothers and a sister. My adopted mother even went out of state with me when I was searching. I have 2 families. That's the reality. Most adoptions are open these days, and they also let gays adopt PEREZ. So please don't talk about what you don't know about.
I'm adopted and think an open adoption would have been a positive experience. But back when I was adopted (1970's) open adoption were unheard of.

This guy, David's biological father, probably got a substantial amount from the "sale" as well. In everyday cases, the biological parent can be offered up to $3,000, while the lawyers and agency/orphanage get a nice piece of the pie. In this case, he could definitely have received more, and may still be receiving monetary compensation for the sale of this little boy. How do you think this particular adoption process went down so quickly? Why do you think there was so much backlash from this speedy adoption? There are many deserving families who wait YEARS to finally get their child…YEARS! How about knowing the facts and think before you just spew your ignorance.
