      I've seen N*E*R*D live 6 times and he normally doesn't care about security and whatnot. In fact at one show he said FUCK security everyone come up to the stage. Something must have been going down that was unsafe, cuz he is a laid back dude.

If you're getting too close to the stage or if you're getting too crazy, then you need to move the F out of the way. Some people are just so stupid.       I go to emory, too, and I was at the concert… the students were basically being big douchebags, and knocked the barriers down, and wouldn't back up far enough for security to remove the barriers and let everyone come closer to the stage. He apologized later (even though he's so hot, he totally didn't need to!)

      I cant tell you how many concerts I have been to where the crowd gets out of control and keeps trying to bum rush the security gates. Being an EMT at these concerts, I've seen broken ribs and people who have event got trampled. So kudos to Pharrell for trying to get it under control. Maybe if half the college kids put the liquor down, they wouldnt have been such douches!

      Sounded like he was having saftey issues with the crowd. He was trying to get them to calm down and back up so everyone was safe. If the crowd is going to act like crazy fools then they need to be put in check.

      I just wanted to say that I'm a student at Emory, I was there, and this was definitely NOT a diva moment.

      Pharrell made it super clear from the beginning, way before this "freak out," that he wanted to keep everyone safe. He even explained how to crowd surf and for people to be careful in the mosh pit.

      The reason this whole video happened is because the barricades were breaking and people were getting hurt. There are pictures of girls being pushed against the barricade and people falling down, and no one in the back of the crowd cared or moved when they were asked politely. So, understandably, Pharrell got annoyed. But he was only doing it to make sure everyone was safe, which he explicitly said later on. He even apologized later for having to use vulgar language to get everyone to pay attention.

      Just wanted to clear this up- even though he was using vulgar language, he definitely had all of our safety in mind and everyone here at Emory, including the student newspaper, supports him and enjoyed the concert!!

      I attend Emory University and am the biggest fan of N.E.R.D., and it was totally well deserved! The crowd was a disappointing mass of people who totally brought down the concert vibe. Funny…all those ppl rushing the stage and none of them new the words.

      Okay, I was here at the concert and I personally know why there was such a freakout. A lot of the crowd wasn't Emory students so it was already a little out of hand. Then people rushed the barricades which put the police officers on scene in danger. The police officers stopped answering their radios which naturally caused a large emergency response and Pharrell helped get the crowd under control.

      also, there's a fine line between crowd control and general diva-esque panicking. pharell crossed the line when he started using profanity. the mere fact that he apologized is evidence of this.

      i will back up my peers till i'm blue in the face. emory kids are at school for a good education and we're also fortunate to have a budget that allows for bigger names to come to our school (eg. OAR, Tracy Morgan,…etc). Don't fault us for an uncalled-for freakout.

      This is not diva behavior and Perez of all people should know that concertgoers can get pretty crammed in. A few years ago people died at, I believe, a Pearl Jam concert because they were smashed in between the crowd and the barricade. This is a very real problem and Pharrell was trying to stop someone from getting hurt.

So basically he was yelling at people to move back and they weren't listening…..in the end he took away the barriers and brought up like 30 people on stage

      I saw N.E.R.D w/ Kanye and Rihana. They are Great!!! I have to say about him yelling about the taking "5 steps back", it is actually the venue telling him to say that. My husband was a bouncer many years ago and he was one of the ones at the SLC AC/DC concert where someone was killed because of the pushing to the front. People were getting crushed! So I don't think he was saying it to be a jerk. Just more for safety reasons….

      I was there so I can tell it like it was… He wanted us to enjoy the concert so he asked the security guards to move the barricades because people were trying to climb over them. So he was like just move them. Anyway he asked us to take 5 steps back… some douche that didn't even go to Emory wouldn't move so he got pissed with the guy thus the reaction that you saw in the video. [CLEARED UP].

      i was at the concert, and, like people below me have said, people knocked down the barriers in front of the stage and as a result people were getting hurt… pharrell wasnt trying to keep people back, he just wanted people to step back so the barriers could be removed. by the end of the night 1/2 the girls in the audience were up on stage–he wasnt being a diva, just being smart. maybe he made a bigger deal of it than needed to be, but no one was listening. try getting the whole story before putting people in blast for something that didnt happen that way.
