Green Day Working On… A Musical!

Green Day is about to add "theater" to its resume!

A stage adaptation of the band's highly successful American Idiot will be opening the 2009-10 season of the Berkeley Repertory Theater.

Billie Joe Armstrong co-wrote the show's book with Spring Awakening's Michael Mayer.

Operating in the same rock opera/concept vein as The Who's Tommy and Pink Floyd's The Wall, American Idiot is "a nihilistic coming-of-age story drenched in post-9/11 paranoia" following "disaffected contemporary American Everykid Jesus of Suburbia as he morphs into violent, drug-dealing alter-ego St. Jimmy and falls for anarchist girlfriend Whatsername."

Could be hot….or a hot mess!

    I have been waiting for this. It sucks that it won't be a touring show or anything, but I am sooooo excited even for this news. I'm a HUGE green day fan. Loved them since I was in seventh grade, seen them live three times and damn, they are great performers. Plus I even met them once!

    Best wishes to them. We just saw a production of "The Wall" and were blown away!!!!!! By the end of the show, the entire audience was standing and singing and some people were in tears and others were laughing. It was incredible.
