Oprah Speaks Out!
After reports surfaced of several students getting suspended for sexually harassing their schoolmates in Oprah Winfrey's boarding school in South Africa, it was only a matter of time before the Big O spoke out about the latest unfortunate incident.
Oprah has just released the following statement about what happened.
She says:
"I'm disappointed that several of our students chose to disregard the school's rules. It's disheartening when any student has to be suspended or expelled and it's a process that involves serious review and consideration. We insist on maintaining a campus environment that commands mutual respect, fosters academic excellence and encourages learners to fulfill their best potential. Indiscretions resulting in disciplinary action are common in schools all over the world. Unfortunately, because of my name these common infractions place the Academy in the media spotlight."
Common infractions???
Suspending fifteen students is not very "common"!

Don't talk shit about Mama O!! LOL.. sounds like there's some carpet munching going on in South Africa…
That is sad, but I do think it's more common than you would like to believe. Most schools would probably do a better job at covering up the acts.

Great big tittays…
She's absolutely right about it being in the spotlight because it's her school. Those types of behavoir go on all the time. Probably in school in your community. Kids all over break rules in school and participate in all sorts of things. You just don't know it because it's not broadcast all over the world when you're a nobody. At least actions are being taken to ensure that it doesn't happen again. YOU GO OPRAH!
glad they kicked those mean little bitches' asses
I have never left a comment before, but most of us will agree that Oprah is correct. America, as a whole, has such a huge mess on its hands in regards to our school systems. It is a waste of time to overexaggerate the situation in her school. It only distracts from the problems in our own backyard. I am not in any way saying this is typical behavior of any teen, but it is not, by any means, an isolated case at all.
It's common enough…where did he go to school?
Re: Melissa is always RIGHT – How much you think one of them titties weight?
Re: Big Black Dick – At least a quad

Some of those girls took Gayles "Lesbo Empowerment" classes and they were just applying what they learned-good job Gayle and Oprah!

Actually, there was a prostitution ring broken up last week at a middle school in LAUSD (the Los Angeles school district). I know, because my good friend is a teacher there. I am a teacher at a similar middle school. These things go on all the time. Suspending multiple students occurs regularly, but BECAUSE THE STUDENTS ARE MINORS, these things tend to be shielded from the media whenever possible. Not to mention the negative press the school boards get. Poor Oprah.
well suspending 15 students is somewhat common, at my highschool 14 of us were suspended for getting caught under the influence of alcohol at a school dance… haha
Toss filet mignon to a dog — they still act like a dog.
So What Perez ? Want to blame Oprah too ? She wasn't even there !
You are evil ! You were not either . Stop preaching what you don't know .
uh… it's not that "uncommon", honestly. i went to a smallish catholic school, and they expelled at least 5 or 6 students per year… that's *expelled*. suspended? puh-lease.
i dont know.. i can see how thing type of shit can be termed a "common infraction" considering this is a school IN AIDS STRICKEN SOUTH AFRICA where the second a young girl comes into the world, she is raped. give oprah a break, shes not sexually abusing anyone. africa is like that.
Uh, yeah, actually it is pretty common. Public schools aren't allowed to take severe disciplinary action unless the offense is more extreme. Sad but true. Private schools have the ability to severely repremand any and all rule breakers.
Black people are not civilized. At least uneducated black people.
Fuck that, Perez! It is South Africa!! Not the USA!! I hope Oprah kicks your fat ass.
My boyfriend and i were talking about this earlier. She has so much money and power, i think she should pay closer attention to what goes on in her school. Seriously, if she wanted to, she could visit the school 5 times a week while class is running. It's shouldn't be that hard for her. I understand she doesn't have eyes on the back of her head, and that there will always be bad kids wherever you go, but i mean really…suspension!? the kid should be expelled. Not only did she perform rape on the other girls, but she was also bullying, which shouldn't be allowed in school anymore. what so ever. Society has changed so much, we can switch up the rules a bit people, especially Oprah, the lady running this school.
As a South African, I think that you all have failed to recognise these girls were chosen for this school from the bottom of the barrel. When you Americans think of poverty and depravity you have no idea, until you've seen a tik-addicted, homeless father in the docks for raping his own baby. Our problems are a little bigger than you think.
Having said that, Oprah's not going to come here and be a headmistress to a group of children who, to be fair, just got "caught" doing something that happens in EVERY school the world over these days. She has better things to do. Melley your comments are absolutely ridiculous and Perez, when one is as opinionated as you are, one should really consider proper research into the story and the facts.
I'm sorry but it was an accident waiting to happen. I mean there's so much that can be done here in the US but instead these fucking celebrites worry about other countries where as people her can use the help. Come on, she's from Mississippi not Africa!!
Oprah, Oprah, Oprah, YOU of all people should know the character and morals of YOUR OWN people? Wake up?
The big problem with Oprah's school and a lot of other schools is that the parents are not allowed to come in and see what's going on. These children are isolated and at a greater risk for abuse. Sure, a lot of kids do stupid stuff, but mose other kids can tell thire parents about it. Oprah needs to rethink the rules of her "camp" I mean school.
Helloooooooooo Okra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is NOT a 'common infraction' for a bunch of rampaging lesbians to force their selves off on other girls! Throw the whores out so the normal kids can get an education!
Re: Melley –
See the problem isn't when classes are going on it's when these girls are in their dorms. I know that these kids are the poorest of the poor, but this kind of behavior happens in the rich boarding schools in America too. I know a girl who parents sent her away to a Southern Baptist boarding school because she was a lesbian when she was 13 and she was raped with a broom and she was the one who got kicked out for being gay. I think no matter where in the world you are females have no sisterhood. Noway is this Oprah's fault it is illogical that she go to the school 5 times a week, she is a business women the trip there is at least 14 hours from Chicago each way even with her own jet. Suppose their parents were allowed there more often what do you think they would do to stop the bullying and the abuse, I bet they would tell the girls to stop whining and not screw up their chances at a better life. I highly doubt their parents would do anything about it.

what do you expect from blacks????
Madonna should be advised to watch this very closely with her girls' school in Malawi…oopps, wait….that school has still not opened after being announced in 2006. I am sure it will happen…after all, she said it would and we all know It is a woman of her word.
Re: LexLuther. – poor oprah? idiot!!! poor kids/childs who were sexually harassing! OMG!
