I think you're forgetting the UK's 'civil partnerships' (religion-free marriages available to gay and straight people) that have been in action for about 4/5 years…
If you're a gay person in California, come here and get hitched!

Re: dizzy_from_hydro –
I really don t think marriage is the MOST important thing regarding equal rights here. I m straighht and would NEVER ever think of marrying! Neither would I if I were gay! But it should be an "option"…
It s more that the same rights must be created for "registered" same-sex couples as straight couples have them granted! I.e. with regard to income tax laws, your right to get information from hospitals on the health condition of your partner if he / she s ill, social welfare laws, child adoption laws, inheritance laws (i.e. still differing tax rates for testamentary heirs), a.s.o.
These area gradually being adjusted and aligned in Germany, they re not yet entirely equal!
Same with Iceland, Gay Marriage has been legal here for ages!
Re: Hole – Look Hole, your fucked up Tranny boyfriend is here!!!!
GREAT news! A bit ironical for me and my boyfriend; he is Swedish I am from Holland and we live in NY and would love to get married here
Sure the US will follow one day….
Actually, Canada was the fourth country to legalize it after the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain
England, scotland and wales are countries in europe too, where same sex marriages are not new!
You forgot the United Kingdom. It's been legalised for almost 4 years now.

PEREZ HILTION, COME TO THE RESCUE!!!
Hi, my name is Kunoor Ojha, and I want you to come to the rescue.
Help Invisible Children, an organization committed to peace in Uganda, to stop the violence by putting your fame and influence to good use. Attend a rescue event at a city near you!
On April 25th, in thousands of cities, thousands of people will be abducting themselves to mimic the thousands of children abducted and forced to become child soldiers in Uganda.
I know that you are a person committed to doing good, as you often post worthwhile causes amid your celebrity gossip. As an avid perez reader, I know how many people you reach and that your influence is immense. I would be nothing short of thrilled if you would take time out of one day to attend a rescue event, and if you would promote Invisible Children's cause. You can find the organization's documentaries online on their website. Email back for more information.
Please attend a rescue event!

I m afraid in Perez's country they simply do not KNOW what countries belong to the EC…that s why he forgot to mention so many of them! There s NO World outside the U.S. for some of them…:-)
Re: Duckie – You are very right!
Im not gay but, WOHOO! Now everyone can marry the person they love!
Isn't it great?!
Re: LG is simply…AMAZING! – Fuck you! Crazy remark…
…and once again, the Earth did not stop spinning!! Congratulations Swedes!
Iceland was the first I believe to legalize gay marriage.
Re: mramsterdam – Don't mind the delusional freak tranny LG, it constantly babbles out garbage then flees around here…….
That's really good ^
Re: Melissa is always RIGHT – Indeed bizar garbage!
Re: LG is…SIMPLY YOURS darlings! – So good to see you! OXOX!
Re: dizzy_from_hydro –
ok dipshit it does say in the bible that the road to heaven is long and narrow while the road to hell is short and wide
so of course ppl are going to start approving gay marriage. it only makes sense that half the world is going to hell anyways lol why not add more to it and call it a day!
YAY for sinners! lmao
you are kind of wrong here Perez. It has been legal for many many many years in sweden, but now it is legal to get married IN CHURCH with a priest. THAT is the difference…. Get facts correct b4 you write, you only sound pathetic otherwise…..
Re: Melissa is always RIGHT – im thinking hole is in love with lg
You can in Denmark too and we were actually the very first country in the world to allow it!
you are forgetting CANADA!
Re: Hole – dick breath, the only thing you came even close to being right about is your name, but you forgot the ass in front of it

As a Christian I am disgusted
and you forgot SWITZERLAND!!! although it's not called marriage, but registered partners - but the benefits are the same except for adoption!!
civil unions are not the same than marriage,, that is why he didn't mention UK germany etc
Ja, Sverige Rocks..
Ja ja ja
Re: default_green – As a Christian I am delighted.
The UK is in Europe, and we allow it here, although it is called something else! x
U FORGOT ABOUT ENGLAND U DICK

Re: Danskgirl7 –
Actually denmark was the first country to allow registratred partnerships for same-sex couples. The Netherlands was the first country to legalise gay marriage.
Europe > America
Re: brandidid – "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion…"
That's from the constitution, you daft idiot. Do you understand that, or do I need to spell it out for you?
Wow!! That is so important right now with all thats going on in the world.
australia next?
Re: brandidid – So who gives a shit about a work of fiction?
Is it not legal in canada???
perez is a huge fan of canada im surprised he missed it.
Dear Mr. Hilton,
Please get your facts in order… The first country in the world to allow same-sex marriage (in 1989) was Denmark. So it is not 5 European countries as you stated.
Also Switzerland was forgotten…
You also forgot Denmark, Sweety!
We were the first in the world, that allowed same-sex marriages. (oct. 1989)
:0)
Re: Bethory –
I thought it was called civil partnership in the UK and Germany. Sweden changed it from civil partnership to marriage.
In any case, I have friends who've adopted children without marriage as well as friends who have found women as surrogate incubators.
ma and her white trash trailerpark meatloaf- It is important, and fck you bigot fascist, Its nice to see that educated european countries and canada are moving ahead with equal rights for gay people, while I must point out that the muslim world and africa are the most violently antigay,oh and lets not forget the Jamaican cesspool thats killing gays. South africa is one positive light in Africa for gay rights, In our country we must point out that the southern states that are mainly populated by rightwing republicans and blacks are the most Homophobic by far. Oh and the most educated state Massachussets has been a pioneer for gay rights and marriage in this country. Repeal prop 8 in ca asap.
Denmark was the first country to legalize gay marriage back in 1989!!
actually in the UK same-sex marriage is not legal. straight people get married. same-sex couples can have civil partnerships, which takes the religious bit out of it. straight couples can't get civil partnerships, if they get married in a registry office, then it's still a marriage. so you're right not to include the UK in your list of european countries with gay/straight marriage equality.
I do not get that the US havent yet legalised the homosexual marriage. I know we Dutch are tolarant and all, but I find it hypocritical of the US government to send an army in the world on the pretext of democracy. whereas in their own country people arent treated right, nicely democratic!
Det är underbart!
yay sweden! now i wish that the US would pull their heads out of their asses and legalize gay marriage in EVERY state! it really makes me sad that gays can't get married and have the same rights as straight folks
my cousin is gay and has been with his partner for about 9 years - longer than most marriages last! i can't wait for the day when they can actually get married!
Hello, the UK legalised it awhile back, because we're not Jesus loving freaks.
Well, better late than never I guess. I think we should've been first, I was shocked a couple of years ago when I found out it wasn't legal. Another thing that is seriously f-ed up and close-minded is that gay (and bisexual) men are not allowed to donate blood in Sweden.
Canada legalized it years ago. Why is America so far behind other countries when it comes to equality. Yeesh! Just do it already.
Part one:
Hold on: same-sex civil marriage has been legal in Sweden for ages already. As Ulr1ka was writing, the thing now is that priests cannot refuse to marry gay couples in the church. I repeat: cannot refuse… because the government says so…
While I support gay rights and gay marriage, I must say I have a problem with the state dictacting what the church should do in matters of faith (the same way I have a problem with the church dictacting what is legal or not). Separation of church and state is an important basis for democracy, and it worries me that the Swedish state manages to find yet another area to take control of.
Part two:
Like how the government now decides who gets to be considered as sick or not, regardless of the doctor's opinion. If you've been sick for more than a certain period of time, then you're considered cured and ready to go back to work. Even if you happen to have terminal stage cancer. Nice way of curving down the unemployment statistics…
Another thing is that we now have something called the FRA law that allows state administration and secret services to wire-tap all (yes, all) electronic communications passing through the borders of Sweden, all without any warrant. Send an email or make a phone call to a Swede and be sure that someone will be listening. And as most emails or phone calls travel through a border at some point since servers are mostly abroad, virtually all of Sweden's population is now under surveillance.
Another law in the making is about to destroy medical confidentiality by giving access to a DNA database of all swedish citizens born after 1973 (a database that was established strictly for medical purposes), to the secret services and the police.
Welcome to Sweden.
Sure, Sweden is great. But don't fool yourself into thinking that it is a free country. It really isn't. And this new law about gay marriage, although positive in the sense that it gives more freedom to the gay community, is also a sign of something bigger going on: it's yet another case of the right-wing alliance taking over all civil institutions.
Sam-sex marriage has been legal in Sweden for a while now… the new law that passed just banned churches from being able to deny a ceremony to same-sex couples…. RESEARCH WHAT YOU POST.
yay, norway =D
Re: reginafelangie –
Not the same thing. Partnership has been legal for ages in Sweden, but now there is an addition to this, as gay people would also like to get married in church.
IMPEACH OBAMA!!!!! WORST PRESIDENT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
