how many causes do you want us to donate to? lets stick with the gossip, k?

  2. 2

Re: Irrumatio – well said, and so true

  3. 3

    Told ya……..

  4. 4

Sorry Perez, Jenny McCarthy is a moron and the link between vaccines and autism doesn't exist. Children are more likely to die of the child hood diseases that vaccines prevent than have autism, WHICH ISN'T EVEN CAUSED BY VACCINES.

  5. 5

    YES!! go Jenny!! go Jim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
autism research needs your force to help millions of affected children & their families

  6. 6

    Right on, Whaler.

  7. 7

    Right on, Whaler, is right.

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disease. It is not "curable." There are many therapies that are very effective for many kids, and there are organizations that are responsible and rely on scientific research. This is not one of them. No peer-reviewed journal has EVER published a study finding any link of vaccines to autism. The peer-review process is important - this basically means that other scientists have been able to replicate the methods used by the original researcher to verify their findings. This has NEVER been the case with any study linking autism to vaccines. In fact, the opposite is true: many, many peer-reviewed studies have found no link at all.

Autism is an important issue that needs further research, but not on vaccines. That was put to bed long ago. Donating here is a waste of research dollars that could be far more helpful if directed elsewhere.

  8. 8

I agree with Whaler.. this is not a worthy cause to support–Jenny McCarthy is a moron.. perhaps it was her silicon breasts that led to autism? That seems just as plausible and ridiculous as blaming vaccines!

  9. 9

Just to be clear: there are plenty of places you can donate to further autism research - go to NIH.gov and donate to legitimate scientific research.

Didn't mean to say that we shouldn't be donating to autism - just not to this organization.

  10. 10

This is BS…there is no "cure" for Autism. True Autism is not curable. You can certainly treat some of the symptoms with therapies that help but is is not a "curable disease" and it makes me really pissed off to hear Jenny McCarthy using her celebrity status to give false hope to parents of children with Autism

  11. 11

I am so sick of hearing Jenny McCarthy! I have a son with Autism and it was not caused by damn vaccines! If it was, then there had to be some underlying genetic reason other wise why wouldnt we all have gotten it from vaccines?? Plus…I dont want to "cure" my son. Sure, I want him to improve so he can lead the best life he can and communicate his needs..but I dont want to change him. If having Autism is what makes him, him then so be it. He is awesome..not to mention incredibly handsome! :) I think Jenny McCarthy needs to stop speaking for everything mother out there with an Autistic child. She did that in her book, saying how every mother knows this and every mother knows that..thats bull. Dont speak for me! Do I think there should be research? Of course! Anything to help the kids out..but I dont think vaccines are the answer..genetics is. So Perez..instead of Jenny's thing why not Autism Speaks or something like that?? Give to somewhere that doesnt harp on vaccines and has a more than one sided view of things.

  12. 12

Agree with Gdkitty - it's irresponsible and cruel of her to use her celebrity status to take attention away from legitimate, much-needed research, and give false hope to people affected by autism.

  13. 13

Autism is a neurological disability. There is no cure for it. It takes up to the age of 3 to be able to diagnose most cases. Jenny Mcarthys son was probably misdiagnosed or had adhd which when changing diet does improve. Perez try researching your chosen "charities" before asking people to throw money at something that is not proved. If there was a "cure" for it I would be doing everything I could to cure my son but there isn't. Nothing has EVER been proved to link autism and vaccines either. The more people who listen to this crap and don't vaccine their kids depend on her immunity but it's the under 12 months that are suffering and losing their lives to these diseases that vaccines help protect them from!

  14. 14

Gagesmomma, you have a really great attitude about autism and I bet you're a really great momma!

  15. 15

    Thanks Whaler!

  16. 16

I knew it, I knew it, well this is great, IF it can be revesed there is hope for Jimmy and he might be able to become NORMAL. I'll give a little to help?

  17. 17

Pshh reversible? no it can not be cured. I wish Jenny would stop saying her son had autism, is now cured, and he is not autistic now.

  18. 18

It is also irresponsible and cruel for Perez to be promoting this hogwash.

  19. loki says – reply to this

    19

I agree with all the comments posted so far. There is absolutely no peer reviewed, empirical evidence to support Jenny McCarthy's claims. I think she's irresponsible and reckless- the dangers of not getting vaccinated are much much higher than doing so- and I think it's irresponsible to promote her nonsense.

Contribute to NIH, Autism Speaks, or your local chapter of TEACCH.

  20. 20

Please don't speak about something you know nothing about! You want to see the link, look at my 4 year old, who used to say mama and dada, before his MMR. He's 4 and just now getting those words back. The GFCF diet and biomedical intervention is curing my son's vaccine induced Autism. Unless you are in the situation and you've experienced it first hand you can shut your pie hole!

  21. 21

This is insulting. My son is autistic and it is most definitely NOT reversible.

  22. 22

I don't get the harshness of these comments. If you don't want to support this cause…then don't! Jenny and many others have had a lot of success with the methods that this organization uses. It seems like she has dedicated herself completely to her son and this cause. Here celebrity has shined a light on this & that has helped a lot of people. Some people want to go the distance and do all they can to help thier kids & some don't want to put the effort in. She has put the effort in & it has helped her child tremendously. Why is that a bad thing exactly????? Are you people saying she should not help her son & others???

  23. 23

If it was the vaccine there had to be some underlying genetic predisposition that caused it. Its not like poof..you're vaccinated and now you're Autistic. I was skeptical when my son was first diagnosed. I did all the research I could and I even contemplated the vaccines as a cause. Then I looked back at old home videos, memories and whatnot…his actions, mannerisms and what I thought were "quirks" were all there. They were subtle and not as defined..but he has been stimming since he was very small. He is only 2 1/2 now. I think in most cases if the parents look back and really think about it..they can see it. My son was saying mama, dada, hi, bye and a few other things and then slowly started losing them. It was not after any certain vaccine date. You could always tie it to that if you looked because vaccines are at specific points. Does that mean that it causes it? No, I know it can seem like a coincidence though…but science it pretty strong. Dont say some of us dont know.

  24. 24

I live with Autism every single day. I eat, breathe and sleep it every day. I am in there with the therapists 5 times a week helping my son. I quit my job so he could have the services he needed. I'm sorry you are positive that vaccines caused your child's Autism..hey, I'm no scholar..I dont know what causes it..no one does. I strongly believe there is a genetic component. Who knows, maybe in some cases vaccines did cause it(like that little girl with the mitochondrial disorder…I forgot her name) but I doubt its the volume that claim that it did…

  25. 25

Jenny is full of shit. There is no "cure" for autism. I do not think her son had autism. MY son has severe autism, and we followed the advice of actual Developmental Pediatricians (you know, the ones who have MDs in this, not ex-models with 2 brain cells). 7 years later, he still has autism. She is spreading false hope. She is an idiot and must be STOPPED.

  26. 26

SWEETIEBIRD….you are following the developmental pediatricians with all the brain cells…yet it sounds like your child is still struggling. Jenny followed a different path & has had success. I would think that you would try everything you can. Why do you want to STOP her if what she is doing helps???

  27. 27

    Re: seesaw

Are you seriously suggesting that I and other parents like me who have loved and adored our autistic child aren't willing to put in enough effort, and that is why my son still has autism? Come spend a day in my house, in my life, and then say that to my face!

  28. 28

No way am I suggesting that. My heart absolutely goes out to you. I am in the struggle too. My point was that I don't get why you are so bitter about Jenny. She had success and is helping others. Why is that a bad thing?

  29. 29

    Re: seesaw
Didn't you just post above the following:

"Some people want to go the distance and do all they can to help thier kids & some don't want to put the effort in. She has put the effort in & it has helped her child tremendously. "

I am bitter because she is *not* helping, this is pseudoscience, her attitude is guilt-provoking towards other parents of children with autism, and false information is dangerous. I am also bitter because media outlets like CNN and Oprah give credence to her scientifically unfounded opinions simply because she is a celebrity. My son's autism was not caused by vaccines. He was "off" from day one, when I look back on things. There is no evidence that vaccines cause autism, and just because this chick looks good naked, we have to hear her opinions promoted as scientific fact.

  30. 30

You keep claiming that Jenny and all these other families have had success, but they have prevented absolutely zero evidence to back up their claims. Where as the researchers who have been doing MMR and Autism-Vaccine related research have publish several papers, all showing absolutely no link. Their data is available to scrutinize, where as Jenny McCarthy is just trusting us to go on her word and her "mommy instinct."

  31. 31

What I have personally found with the trained pediaticians and nuerologists is that all they want to do is push drugs. If you look into the foundation that Jenny works with, they do not simply blame vaccines. In fact, they are not totally against vaccines. Again, their methods do not help everyone & some of the methods to do with diet are a LOT of work (this is what I was referring to). If you don't believe in it…fine. The fact remains that children are being helped by what she is using her celebrity to bring light to. If it helps 1 child then it is worth it.

  32. 32

While there are treatments and diet than can help children with autism, this does not make it reversible. Vaccines do not cause autism. The age at which children are vaccinated is around the same age they show first signs of autism, which is why many parents say their children regressed after the vaccine. That is simply not true. Autism desperately needs more research money, but it should be donated to a legitimate and fact-based organization like Autism Society of America.

  33. kacky says – reply to this

    33

Nobody with autism belongs to this cause. It's just a dumb blonde who thinks she invented it. She knows nothing about autism or what it's like to have it - only how INCONVENIENT it is for parents.

  34. 34

People like her have caused the re-emergence of diseases that were gone in America thanks to vaccines. She speaks from an emotional place and not from logic or facts. It is scary how much influence a woman, whose claim to fame is posing nude and sticking out her tongue, has on the public. She needs to shut her stupid mouth.

  35. 35

This is a sad day, indeed.
Disgusting that Perez picked up this ad.
This is "junk science" autism treatment.
People with autistic children DO NOT back Jenny McCarthy!

  36. 36

Re: Lbuffo – autism doesn't always show up till around that age, so it may be just a coincidence about the vaccine.

  37. 37

i cannot stand d listers posing as doctors - because of jenny mccarthy many parents are not vaccinating their children, which is going to come backa nd slap them in the face if their is an outbreak of some previosly thought erraticated disease . . .

    idiots.

  38. 38

This is NOT a worthwhile cause. PLEASE do more research before posting stuff like this. Just because Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carey are celebrities it does not make what they say the truth.
Ask any real expert in the field of autism and they will tell you that her theories are bunk. Vaccines don't cause autism. Chelation doesn't cure autism. At this time there is no cure.
She is actually quite dangerous and gives parents false hope and who knows down the road what the children will say they were put through due to her "Indigo Children" philosophies.
As a parent of a 4 year old boy with ASD, I have some insight into this topic. I am no expert but I do follow science rather than heresy.

  39. 39

It is also interesting that in america 1 in 150 kids is diagnosed as autistic, while in european countries it is more like 1 in 500.

    what does that tell you??

  40. 40

I am so glad there are more people out there that are sick of Jenny McCarthy speaking for us. I think she is most definitely giving false hope to parents. First off I refuse to make my son swallow pills when he wont even take a bite of a sandwich. Plus..a lot of these "treatments" are horribly expensive and not everyone can pay for them. Not everyone has money coming out their ass. Chelation is also not the safest thing. Adults can die from it, why take the risk with your child? I'm sorry but I dont think my child's life is worth risking for more socially acceptable behavior. I love my stimming goofy little man and I feel if you cant deal with him flapping his arms that is your problem not mine. I'm not going to go bankrupt and not be able to afford to give him the things he needs and wants on a possibility that this "might" work or it might kill him. The risks out weigh the benefits by far. I just think its too bad because she is famous that people believe her.

  41. 41

I just wanted to chime in and say that while vaccines may not cause autism, they DO cause severe reactions, brain damage, and death in some! VACCINES ARE FULL OF TOXINS- Jenny's mission is to GREEN OUR VACCINES and promote alternative shot plans for families because what we do now is TOO MUCH TOO SOON! Most babies are getting a HepB vaccine at birth that is loaded with Aluminum We need to remove Aluminum. Not just Mercury.!!! The toxicity of aluminium can be traced to increased deposition in bone and the central nervous system, particularly in the presence of reduced renal function. Because aluminium competes with calcium for absorption, increased amounts of aluminium may contribute to the reduced skeletal mineralization (osteopenia) observed in preterm infants and infants with growth retardation. Aluminium can cause neurotoxicity in very high doses which can alter the function of the blood-brain barrier.

  42. 42

The brain damage caused by vaccination looks like Autism, particularly in the very young, and it seems like this is what is reversible..just a thought

  43. 43

While I am sure her heart is in the right place, Jenny McCarthy is taking away from real research organizations.

Please Perez, ask people to donate to a much better Autism group: Autism Speaks. It is far more legitimate and isn't attempting to start a witchhunt to blame vaccines and come up with magical dietary cures for autism.

    Again, look into AUTISM SPEAKS

  44. 44

Autism is rarely reversable, and when it is, it's not as a result of some sort of vegan, macrobiotic diet. Autism is a spectrum disorder, and the very RARE instances in which it is reversed, the disease is a special type. I garuntee that baby McCarthy is still somewhere on the autism spectrum, if only mildly. Few cases are this type, and when they are, they must be treated early and often with specific types of THERAPY. The VAST majority of autism can not be reversed. It can be helped, with large amounts of therapy, but it can not be "cured," no matter how many times the child detoxes. Furthermore, it is irresponsible to not vaccinate children. Many of the diseases against which infants are being innoculated are highly contagious, and could feasibly wipe out large portions of society.

It's insulting to those of us who have devoted our entire lives to helping autistic children to say that they're just acting out because they're lacking a little tlc.

  45. 45

THIS IS NOT A WORTHWHILE CAUSE. It funds frivolous and useless research and promotes the use of non vaccinations in children. It is harmful and does not contribute to Autistic research whatsoever. It's not about "Not supporting a cause" this cause just promotes parents to not vaccinate their children and endangering their lives. You cannot CURE autism and vaccinations are sure as hell not the cause of it. And no one bring up her child because he is proof of nothing, if this actually was valid research it would be recognized by the medical community and it sure as hell isn't. Shame on you Perez for supporting this absurd harmful foundation just cause some celebrity you like founded it.

  46. 46

Shameless promotion. Autism is not curable. But, it is possible to make the lives of those on the Autism Spectrum much easier. Saying you can cure Autism is like saying you can cure someone of their race, which is pure insanity.

  47. kacia says – reply to this

    47

Jenny McCarthy's charity is based on bunk science, everybody knows that, but Autism Speaks is not a good charity either. It puts much of its funds towards prenatal testing for autism, which will have the effect of making it possible for prospective mothers to abort if their child comes up as being on the autistic spectrum. This is their cure. Nevermind the fact that genius is more prevalent in people with ASDs than in the general population. This doesn't mean all autistics are geniuses, indeed most aren't, but if you got rid of autism you'd be throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

  48. kacia says – reply to this

    48

Autism Speaks should be called Parents of Autistic Children Speak, because it doesn't let people on the autistic spectrum join its board. It's done on the basis that people with Asperger's Syndrome and High Functioning Autism who can communicate intelligibly are considered "not autistic enough" to speak for autistics, yet people who are lower on the spectrum often cannot speak or communicate, so they can't speak for autistics either. They ignore the fact that autistic spectrum people can get jobs and lead fulfilling lives, and don't fund therapies and associations which would help them do so. They ignore the issue of adult autistics, as if we stop being disabled when we turn 18. In fact, they deliberately push out local autism charities and soak up their funding bases, which they can do because they're big and have the media on their side. A lot of people don't know this about Autism Speaks which is why they get so much money. Listen up parents! This isn't gonna help your kid.

These parents who agree with AS's viewpoint just can't stand to have a kid who isn't 100% normal. Mostly they just want autistic people to shut up and stop existing.

  49. 49

I love all of these people jumping in the fray that obviously don't know what in the F they are talking about. If you are not affected by autism, don't bash an organization that works for autistic families. If you claim you are "autistic" but have the skills to read Perez Hilton and post, get a life.

It is a sad day when woman who once had a child who was profoundly autistic and now is typical is being asked where her "proof" is that autism is not treatable.

  50. 50

Jenny is a failed former playboy bunny. She's a tool of the pro-children's death brigade. There's no need to support this cause. It's totally not supported by anyone with a brain.

  51. kacia says – reply to this

    51

It's nice to see that you can diagnose me over the internet, Dr Carnivore. Go tell Temple Grandin she's not really autistic because she can speak, read and use a computer. It's you who doesn't know what they're talking about.

Why is reasonable skepticism such a bad thing. If this kid really had recovered completely from autism surely scientists from all over the world would be wanting to study him, as that's pretty much unprecedented. But they aren't. Could it be because it isn't true?

  52. 52

thank you for posting this. you have no idea how much this means to us. so many more people will now know about us. thank you so very much.

  53. 53

i love how everyone calling jenny a moron can't type or spell worth a damn

  54. 54

last time I checked, this was a free country and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. People are free to make their own decisions as to where they want to donate. And yes, I have a son who has autism.

  55. 55

    Re: GdKtty
Bravo! As a parent of a child with high-functioning autism, I resent Ms. McCarthy's insistence that it is curable. She has used her money and celebrity status to put her son in a wonderful therapy program that most of us don't have access to. I agree that diet can help some kids, but it is not a cure. I am also an educator with a certificate in working with autistic children, so I know my facts. I wish there was a cure! Great therapy is needed, and every child is different. Not everything works for every child. That is why it's called the autism "spectrum".

  56. 56

It doesn't matter if people believe vaccines cause autism or not. I do believe that they are a trigger for some. I believe in other environmental insults, as well. Autism is not only a neurological condition. For some, it's a destroyed immune system, inflammatory bowel disease, viruses in the gut and brain, inflammation, yeast, toxins and severe pain caused by some or all of these conditions. Our boy was sick and in so much pain that he could not learn. Tests revealed aluminum and other metals as well as yeast. We implemented the diet and switched to natural home products. We later began using using a topical chelator, after which, he began to excrete mercury. As he healed from the inside out, he was able to learn. He is now 7, and has moved from below the middle of the spectrum, to mildly ADD. We never expected him to loose his diagnosis…we just wanted him healthy. Being pain free opened up a whole new world to him. "Cured"? Maybe not…"Recovered"? Yes. Thanks, Perez. I will send a donation to Generation Rescue. I suspect there will be more folks out there who will support them as well!

  57. 57

Go gagesmoma!! I am married to a high function autistic - with Aspergers disease and I think its a joke to say its a curable "disease" I would prefer not to take advice from a bunny boiler

  58. 58

Re: bleepandblorg – OMG, get your facts straight, Mercury has been removed from vaccines for years. Plus IF it was that why hasn't autism been around a lot longer then it has been? Look at how many kids have it now compared to 10 years ago, now 20 years ago?

  59. 59

Re: Tori_baby – Mercury has not been removed from all shots. There is still .25 mc of thimerasol in the flu shot. Pregnant women and babies as young as 6 months old, are being routinely vaccinated with no preference by the CDC, for the safer "mercury free" shots. There is no question that the developing brains of countless children are still being exposed to this unnecessary neurotoxin. Flu shots containing a small trace of mercury (used in the manufacturing process) are in short supply and rarely given without previous request. Since the initial dose for babies is given in two incriments, followed by a yearly flu shot, there is no denying that children are still getting the CDC's recommended minimum dosage of mercury! BTW, my boy was born on May 29, 2001. All of his shots contained mercury, despite the assurance by the Ped, that they were "just fine". I have the lot numbers…
I made my contribution to Generation Rescue, this morning!

  60. 60

    (Reads original post.)

    (Reads site linked in post.)

Ok, where's everyone coming up with "cure"? I don't see it anywhere..

  61. 61

AUTISM IS NOT REVERSIBLE. it is a genetic condition that can be IMPROVED, but it will never go away. i work with several autistic students of all ages, and all of their parents have accepted their disability and do what they can to help their child. jenny mccarthy needs to stop hoping for a cure and just deal with what she's been dealt.

  62. 62

Re: jennabean – Somehow, "working with several students with autism"… doesn't tell me that autism isn't reversable! I've been a Special Educator for over 25 years and have worked with many children and adults with autism. I've also seen a few parents give up on trying to recover their children, because some know-it-all professionals bullied them into believing that biomedical intervention was rubbish. I began to believe them myself…until my own typically developing toddler had a reaction the evening of his DtaP and MMR vaccines. The Ped told me that a fever of 103, continued high pitched screaming and a rash covering his body was "normal"! I was instructed to give him tylenol and he would be fine. Two weeks later, he was with me when I took his sister in for a separate issue. The Doc suggested that as long as he was there, he be given a flu shot. I said ok… Thus began his journey into regressive autism. When ABA, Floortime, Speech and OT did nothing, I turned to biomedical therapy. Fortuntely, he is a good responder and he improved beyond belief! I never said he is "cured" but healing his body led to the elimination of his autistic mannerisms and an interest in learning. At 7, he is nearly indistinguishable from his typical classmates. Getting him healed from the inside out, took away the physical pain, allowing him to learn. He is still on an IEP, allowing him to receive minimal tutoring to maintain his good grades. This IS recovery!

  63. 63

Count me as another mom of a kid with autism who prefers that Jenny McCarthy STFU! My son's autism is not reversible. It was not caused by a vaccine. And it is not helped by expensive, shady, unscientific, and often dangerous "treatments." I want my son to achieve all that he can, but he does not need to be FIXED. He is perfect the way he is. :)
