ER Says Good-Bye In A Big Way

ER departed on a high note on Thursday night, with the series finale receiving one of its biggest ratings in 3 years, pulling in 16.3 million viewers with a "6.0 preliminary adults 18-49 rating."
Its performance bested the 1996 finale of Murder She Wrote and was among the top rated adult shows since The X-Files closed its doors in 2002.
The finale also helped NBC clear out the night over CBS, Fox, and ABC.
Way to go out with a bang!

I watched it and sadly it was a huge yawn fest
I was a little bummed that it seemed like just a regular show. Not very special for a finale.
I have my own way of saying goodbye to ER…I just changed the channel.
dats been on for a long time, bout time it over
I'm going to miss this show.
I watched it as well and would have to agree that it was really boring. I get that they were trying to connect the last episode to the first but as much as I love Alexis Bledel, I really didn't care about her character and wanted to see more Tony and Sam!!
It was boring…

Re: RedWingsFan – Agree!
Re: RedWingsFan – Agreed, I expected way more. I do have to say, I thought it was kind of cool ending it the same way it began………
Re: LizardKinG – LO Fucking L!
People are sooo stupid. If you refer back to the Pilot episode, the Finale mirrored it. It was an fitting ending to a stellar show. Bravo and I will miss ER!!!
i really like how it ended since it wasn't just a sad emotional ending and linked the first and last episode. i especially liked it because it gave the impression that life in the ER will still continue even thou the show is over. … other than that, it was quite a boring episode.
Of course it dominated over FOX and ABC…..American Idol wasn't on and neither was Ugly Betty or Grey's Anatomy.
I'm not a fan of ER, but my friends who are said the finale was sort of anti-climatic and they expected more. Maybe one of these days I'll rent the whole series and watch it.
Its probably my favorite show ever, seen every episode, but the finale was a letdown if you ask me. I wish it had made me cry or feel something but it didn't. Shame
Re: nh22 – you should
I thought Alexis Bledel was one of the few good things about the series final. I liked her character and her story. Outside of that, did not care very much on the whole.
been watching from the beginning.
sad to see them go.
people just watched to make sure it was really the last episode…The show sucked.
Re: yankees21 – I agree! ER was a great show and it deserved a better ending….
Don't cry…. we still have Entourage and The Hills!!!
E.R. was for me a touchstone: I'm a late baby boomer and when Dr. Greene lost his father, I saw my own family and situation. In fact, I went through similar issues as the characters in my 30s and 40s. I've never worked in a hospital, but the show was relateable. Congratulations to the cast and crew, the writers and directors. This show had diversity that never seemed forced (after all, it was Chicago) and a cast of nurses who were friendly and professional.
Without a doubt, the show had a few missteps (Dr. Malucci, indulgent storylines with Sam and John Stamos, too many hostage situations, explosions, and gushers), but it was a standard bearer and inspired a slew of copycat shows, both here and internationally.
The ending was fitting, though not spectacular. It was good to see Alexis Bledell (her "G.G." nemesis, Paris, had also appeared years ago as the wife of the schizophrenic who murdered Lucy and injured Dr. Carter).
Was anyone else bothered by the goofy smile on young Dr. Greene's face when all the ambulances rolled in and she was called? Also, I was hoping Doc Carter and the wife would reconcile. Lizzie and Eriq LaSalle still looked hot together, and it was touching to see Reese all grown up.
Awww man when that older woman passed away I cried my eyes out that whole story reminded me of my grandpa and grandma.. that is why I loved ER so much, it just really reaches out and feels so real, it ended perfectly! I will miss it though
shhoshh haters. I love that show. and I was bawling the entire time.
Re: BBBoricua – you always cheer me up
Re: yankees21 – I know right? I was waiting for some massive explosion or one of the main characters to get hit by a car or stray bullet. I was glad to see clooney and the old timers come back for those few episodes.
Re: yankees21 – Always and forever….
I have never watched one minute of this show.
It was great! Nice to see some of the old cast come back. But, we all knew this was happening. Great show. I will miss it.
Took long enough to end it all…FINALLY! How many bombs did it take to finally finish the series for good!? lol thank you nbc for taking it off the air forever!
